If we stick with Sam, bring back Josh

Recommended Posts

I’d try to re-sign Flacco if he wants to return. He made only 1.5 this season and at times was ok when he played. We also have Morgan who hopefully isn’t another Hack a guy who never hit the field. So I’d basically go with our current QBs next season and hope that Darnold was right when he said he’s only going to get better. Plus he’ll hopefully have better coaching and more playmakers to work with and a better team.

There was something that worked well between the two of them. Josh is a great influence in a player that’s still a child, tbh.

If we move on, fine. I’m not advocating one way or another.

I am, however, saying that if we roll with Sam, then part of supporting him is thru coaching as well as with the surrounding roster. McCown would be a great coaching staff addition.

He did more for Sam as a fellow QB than Gase and Loggains have as coaches.

Why in the world folks are against brining in Josh McCown as a QB coach is BEYOND me.  Josh was the one who worked with Sam and had him performing at a high level.

I didn't want him on the team but he was an unquestioned benefit at the end.

I don’t understand this line of thinking... a 23 year old kid needs to “grow up” because he may prefer one coach over the current coach/coordinators who everyone thinks are horrible.

I am not saying Sam is the answer but I just don’t get this mentality towards any of the players.

@Darnold615Thank you!!

People live in the fantasy island of their mind's youth and not in the real world where you do anything, within respectability, you can to make your venture have a positive outcome.  In this case win ball games!

For example, Muhammad Ali had Drew Bundini Brown in his corner.  Brown couldn't fight or teach folks how to fight but he did give Ali inspiration and psychological energy. Did that make Ali weak, and a poor boxer and not know what he was doing?  Of course not!

At the end of the day you do whatever you have to make your BILLION dollar business a success and if that means brining in Josh McCown, yoga specialist, massage therapist, whatever else might make you WIN...... you do it. Period!

Where there’s smoke there’s fire.  I wouldn’t be shocked at all if McCown was the next HC

i don’t hate it.  Harbaugh decided to stay at Michigan as soon as he knew we weren’t getting Lawrence.  Bienemy is going to Houston.  Daboll isn’t staying in the division

There have been a few articles published in the last few months about Mccown having a bright future as a coach. Some even suggesting he'd get a head coaching job very quickly after retiring as a player. He's been on a lot of teams, and been exposed to a lot of offensive systems.

It would be an outside of the box hire, but I wouldn't hate it.

I like it, he'd be good for Jameis Winston too.

Mommy, minus the breast feeding.

If you bring in a guy that talks to the guy about playing the position,  it is a position coach. This is part of the problem here. This organization  does nothing to help it's QB and it is why we saw so many people advising TL to stay away. Now the fans are in agreement it seems.

I don't see any good scenario if we stick with Sam

Yeah the only way I see Sam as a Jet next season is if there is literally no trade market for him. Like not even a 7th. But some GM/HC will believe they can fix him.

Yes, nobody has ever talked to Sam about playing the position, that is the problem.

I have seen him being talked to, I'm not a lip reader, nor can I see thru marks and clipboards, but I am 110% positive that all of Sam's problems are due to lack of position conversation.

Please, the only shots of Gase is with his nose buried in that playsheet or off by himself  looking at pictures. Only Mahomes gets to talk between series.

And this isn't  about Sam. Sam is done here. This is about how screwed up this organization  is.

I guess you prefer Gase?

I prefer not hiring a QB coach based on the relationship he had with Sam Darnold as his backup, 3 years ago.

If he proves to be the best man for the job based on his potential coaching ability, great!

But his time fluffing hairdos with Sam should have nothing to do with it.

Irrelevant. I’m advocating for him as a QB coach IF we keep Sam, ffs

So you want him to be a QB Coach because he once couldn’t outplay a rookie. Got it...

Sam or not, don't want anything to do with McCown, FFS.

You have a strange view of that relationship but whatever. I think McCown has a lot of experience and has probably seen it all. I would totally be ok with him prior relationship or not.

You have a strange way of understanding, I'll say it again, if he earns, deserves and wins the job I'm all for it. His prior relationship with Sam should not be a factor on if he will be the best man for the job. I want the best coach, not the guy who has best relationship with Sam.
