With Schweitzer out again, let's look at the Offensive Line vs Houston.....

Recommended Posts

JETS have 9 offensive linemen on the active roster.  Schweitzer is out and Warren is questionable.  Fortunately, they have 4 offensive linemen on the Practice Squad.

Duane Brown is the real question.  He played some blocking TE and on the field goal unit last week, so maybe he's ready to go.  Max Mitchell could start at RG for Schweitzer.. That's his natural position in my opinion, so that might actually work

Because Xavier Newman was released, cleared waivers and was re-signed to the practice squad, his call ups reset, he will almost certainly be elevated for the game.  If veteran Roger Saffold is ready, he's be an ideal candidate to be activated as well. Chris Glaser is a decent backup but didn't look very good when he got some playing time a few weeks ago, but if Saffold can't go, Glaser will be activated

IF Warren can go, the Jets will activate Newman and either Saffold or Glaser from the PS and the offensive line will be

BECTON - TOMLINSON - TIPPMANN - MITCHELL - WARREN
BROWN - SAFFOLD - NEWMAN - SAFFOLD - BROWN

Turner would be the 9th OL in this scenario

IF Warren CAN'T go, the Jets will activate Newman and either Saffold or Jake Hanson from the PS and offensive line will be

BECTON - TOMLINSON - TIPPMANN - MITCHELL - BROWN
TURNER - SAFFOLD - NEWMAN - SAFFOLD - TURNER

Austin Deculus would be the 9th OL in this scenario (probably)

Can we please look at what the starting OL will look like next year. Looking at the slop this year is traumatic. Next year, the there’s only two who should start : Tippman and AVT. So we’d need another guard and 2 tackles OR anther center and 2 tackles since Tippmann and his glorious head of hair could slide to guard. That’s going to be a tall order but JD better find 3 new starters on the line.

If we could somehow have

• Mitchell and / Scheritzer lock down that RG spot

• Carter Warren show he can at least start and be a solid back at RT

• AVT at LG next year + drop Lake

I’d feel a lot better about our OL going into 2024

Wow! It’s hard to imagine that the jets actually had worse injury luck on the oline this season than last season. Maybe we were lucky that Rodgers had a season ending injury. Surely the pounding he would’ve taken behind this line would have shortened what little time is left in his career.

And that was the main problem w/the o-line this year. People act like JD messed up for not having starter quality 4th and 5th string guys. The o-line was starting to look pretty solid before a grenade hit it. Didn't last long.

Good with those guys but there are still ifs at tackle.  We don’t know what the plan with becton will be and Warren needs to show more.

Yeah I wouldn’t think we’re set, but if we can get the points I listed and then sign or draft OT we’ll be in decent shape.

The Jets will not have an OL, and without an OL will not have an offense, unless they can keep their starters on the field as much as possible.

that is a function of the players they pick, how they are coached, how they are trained, and the field they play on

Becton is a serviceable LT and since any  LT drafted may have to spend some time getting their feet wet at RT there is no reason we can’t use Becton at LT next year especially since he and Rogers seem to be close. We can say Becton has to stay healthy but that goes for the entire oline.

I think the franchise tag makes the most sense for us and Becton, even if we are drafting OT in the 1st round.

Question is what’s the cost- length of deal - not aware of the stipulations of his contract going into next year-   I agree he’d be great to bring back under the right circumstances.
