Think about your logic.  Ok let’s say the reports are true that Saleh was demoting Hackett.  Could that have been a desperation — save his hind — too little too late move?

We only have limited info so we need to use some level of logic or look back at past precedents, and the fact is Woody hasn’t made these rash decisions before and Rodgers never got anyone canned and your supporting evidence is that Rodgers learned about Hackett’s demotion to the same position he had with the Packers (non play calling OC) and was so infuriated that he convinced Woody in the span of 5 minutes to 2 hours that Saleh needed to instead go.

I was thinking about play calling, and how we assume AR is calling the plays from the LOS.

But that's really tough to do. We have chess pieces on the sidelines waiting to come in, and players on the field waiting to be sent off. TE in, RB off....WR in, TE off. 6th Lineman in, WR off. All depending on the upcoming play.

Only a play caller standing on the sidelines with the players by his side can efficiently send some in, call some out. It'd be really hard for AR to call the play and get the right soldiers on and off the gridiron. Headsets only go one direction....from the SLs to the QB. AR can't radio over the play asking for certain players.

So ya, we will always need a play caller, even with AR under center. AR can mix up the play with the players he has in the huddle, but not much else beyond that (which is still huge, most QBs aren't given that power).

I would hope that whoever is pulling together the offensive game plan will have AR at the table. AR can also have certain plays highlighted for certain situations that might come up. Stuff like that.

I think our offense has been pretty simple. By this I mean I can usually tell what's going to happen based on the players and the formations. Defenses seem to be able to predict our play as well.

As defenses gear up to attack AR (seems to have worked pretty well so far) our game plans will have to account for this. Defenses almost NEVER attacked AR in his prime, as he was NFL's #1 QB for making teams pay for blitzing him.

Again, Hackett is still the OC.  We will see Monday if the playcalling looks any different.

Ulbrich said titles would remain.  He said nothing about duties being the same, they’ve obviously changed.
He’s also clearly made a change that you said wasn’t happening, the change you were happy to see Saleh make if he was retained.

downing will call the pays but hackett is still the coordinator.  i for one don't know enough about these various titles to know what their duties actually are.  apparently the offensive coordinator has control over the playbook and designs the plays to be used by the team.  in addition he gameplans for the upcoming games and tries to find the plays that should work best.  but who actually runs the plays in practice to make sure they're executed properly?  at some point all of these coaches need to be on the same page and ensure that their areas of responsibility know what they are supposed to be doing.

To reiterate your point @Jet Nut if you watch Ulbrich's presser from today, Downing will have full control over the game planning & the play calling going forward.

Also Morgan Moses is on track to be back for Monday night, which should help the running game.

If you watch Ulbrich's presser from today, Downing will have full control over the game planning & the play calling going forward.

Exactly. 
Hardly made the case that nothing would change.  And has been stated, Hacketts extremely successful run in GB happened without his having play calling responsibilities.  Seems like Ulbrichs changes leave Hackett with even less responsibility here.

Hackett will still be the OC but he will remain in the lockerroom during the games. His gameday office will be converted from the broom closet. He will also not have headset access during the games.

Hackett will also still be paid at his current salary. League rules prohibited the Jets from cutting any portion of his salary despite the teams plan to inject him with elephant tranquilizer before every game moving forward.
