I am so pissed off right now. This blows, I better get a report that we tried to make a serious run at this guy and he just wanted to play for NE because he has a thing for ****ty cities and ******* fans.....

That or were going after Porter, we better not have just let this guy slip to our rivals while we just stood here with our thumb up our asses....

Same old Jets? are you ****ing kidding me? This entire organization was gutted and we started over from scratch and put together a 10 win season and made the playoffs with the worst starting QB in the NFL.

Same old jets? or same old jets fans?

As much as I didn't want him here, Adalius Thomas was one of two missing links New England needed last season to reach the Super Bowl. They didn't have a pass rushing specialist and they didn't have a receiver worthy of starting, even as a #2.

They now have half of what they need for their 4th championship in 7 seasons.

I never saw this coming, good move by the Pats, this is what makes them one of the best. The only way we can match this is by going out and getting Porter, but that, unfortunately, seems unlikely.

Banta Cain...Thomas...Banta Cain...Thomas. What's the difference right? :P

I don't care one way or the other about Thomas...but you are right. Thomas is a better player but he is also 2 yrs older and will most likely cost a lot more $$$.

Well, this s*cks.

The Pats are a SS and a deep threat WR away from being among the favorites to get back to The Dance next year.

bit, you can revise your mock now.

Pats will take either Bowe or Ginn, and Merriweather with their two first round picks.

And I think Thomas is going to thrive in their D. Plug and play.

Of course not even making a play for Thomas stings worse because he landed in NE.

Same deal with Porter: it would be a mistake to not explore getting him, but it will be even worse if he lands in Miami with the fish (who supposedly are interested in him).

Not to sidetrack this thread -- the only thing that bothers me about Thomas not being a Jet is that he will be a Pat -- but why the hell would the Jets want Banta Cain and where do you imagine him playing?

He's an OLB so that means you either want him to play for Hobson or Thomas right?

I dont think he's big enough to play the Thomas position and the Jets extended Thomas' deal and are going to pay him quite a lot of money over the next few years so I dont think he will take Thomas's spot.

That leaves Hobson who had his best year as a pro in the OLB position last year, played in more games, and I think had a better statistical year than Banta-Cain. That means that at best Banta-Cain and Hobson would split time. Why would we pay a FA what Banta-Cain is probably going to want to split time with a home grown guy who had his best year ever last season?

Not to mention why would we want to sign a guy whose current team didnt trust him to play for them in the play offs?

just because you sign a player doesn't mean he is going to start. he could very well be the backup at olb...a position that we have NO BACKUPS FOR!

Bro with their draft picks alone the Pats were already amongst the favorites. It will remain that way as long as Belly and Brady are still there.

Once they get crazy eyes Caldwell to focus, Brady will have some good receivers. Yesterday changed nothing.

Well we did that last year with Abraham but no way the pats trade Samuel

Are you kidding? The Patriots would be all over a 1st rd pick for Samuel. They had no reason not to franchise him since they had the cap space, but if AS isnt in the Pats plans for a big money long term contract then you can bet the house they will be looking to deal him, rather then letting him walk next year

Patriots | A. Thomas contract update

Sat, 3 Mar 2007 09:05:32 -0800

John Tomase, of the Boston Herald, reports free agent LB Adalius Thomas (Ravens) is expected to receive between $15 million and $20 million in guaranteed money after coming to terms on a contract with the New England Patriots, according to sources with knowledge of the negotiations.

Wonder how much it is / years as well but at least we now have an understanding of the guarenteed money and all I can say is.. Wow.

PATS LAND THOMAS

The New England Patriots reportedly have reached an agreement in principle with free-agent linebacker Adalius Thomas. He generally was regarded as the second-best available talent in a relatively weak field, behind cornerback Nate Clements.

Initial, albeit equivocal, reports of the deal broke on Friday night, primarily from John Tomase of the Boston Herald and Mike Reiss of the Boston Globe. We're also told that Tom Curran of NBCSports.com has reported that the deal is expected to be worth $60 million over six years.

Thomas, 29, is slated to take a physical before the agreement is finalized.

He was a versatile defensive contributor in Baltimore, but was overshadowed by the likes of Ray Lewis and Ed Reed and Chris McAlister and Terrell Suggs.

The Ravens could have kept Thomas by slapping the franchise tag on him, or could have applied the tag and then traded him to a team like, say, the Patriots. If New England is willing to give a guy $60 million to get him on the team, the Pats also likely would have considered coughing up a second-round or third-round draft pick.

But the Ravens have a borderline goofy approach when it comes to using the franchise tag. The team has apparently bought into the notion that the use of the tag is in some way disrespectful to the player. As if a one-year guaranteed salary in excess of $7 million is a sign of contempt.

The irony, as a reader pointed out to us on Saturday morning, is that the team with which Thomas is signing has zero qualms about using any arrow in the quiver when it comes to managing the business side of the sport.
