I should have said "accidentally" in the thread title, but can't edit it now.

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Police in Miami Beach say Cleveland Browns wide receiver Donte Stallworth has hit and killed a pedestrian with his Bentley.

Police spokesman Juan Sanchez says Stallworth hit a man crossing the busy causeway that links downtown Miami with Miami Beach around 7 a.m. Saturday.

The man was pronounced dead at a trauma center. He was near a crosswalk but it's not clear if he was crossing legally.

Stallworth is cooperating and no charges have been filed. Officers drew his blood to test for drugs or alcohol, which is routine. Police say it's too early to tell if Stallworth was violating traffic laws.

The 28-year-old former New England Patriot signed a seven-year, $35 million contract with the Browns as a free agent before last season but hardly played because he was hurt.

Damn...

Traffic leading into Miami Beach was backed up heavily following the death of a pedestrian in a traffic accident earlier Saturday and police have detained NFL wide receiver Donte Stallworth in relation to the accident, according to news reports.

Stallworth has not been charged, according to the Miami Herald, but circumstances relating to the investigation seem to indicate that police have a strong inclination relating to Stallworth's involvement.

The pedestrian was hit by a car and killed Saturday morning at 7:17AM ET on the McArthur Causeway, and apparently, the police have already begun questioning the wide receiver. Additionally, the Herald reports that law enforcement officers drew blood from Stallworth at the scene, which would indicate that there is some suspicion as to the possibility of impairment on Stallworth's part.

A Bentley -- presumably the same car that Stallworth was driving at the time of the accident -- "with heavy front-end damage and without a passenger side mirror" was brought into the police station via tow truck earlier this afternoon.

Stallworth currently resides in a Miami Beach penthouse and has had issues with the local police in the past relating to automotive charges, including a resisting arrest charge in 2006.

RIP to the guy. Best wishes for his family.

I'll reserve judgment on Stallworth and everything else for now. Mangini's got so much non-football related problems on his team right now.

Built in excuses are rolling in! He is gonna pull a Herm this season for certain... get the bus ready... its got a large quantity of people to run over this year...

:Edit: That was not meant to be a joke aimed at the topic...:bag:

Lets not go after Stallworth just yet. Like WE said reserve judgement until the details are made clear.

Report: Stallworth expected to be charged after pedestrian death

Miami, FL (Sports Network) - Cleveland Browns wide receiver Donte' Stallworth is reportedly expected to be charged after he was the driver in an accident that resulted in the death of a pedestrian on Saturday morning.

According to Yahoo! Sports, driving under the influence, vehicular manslaughter and reckless driving are among the possible charges.

A Miami Herald report stated that 59-year-old Mario Reyes was the victim involved and that Stallworth appeared to drive his Bentley around a stopped vehicle to beat a red light.

Reyes was apparently on his way home from work as an overnight crane operator and was walking to a bus stop.

Stallworth joined the Browns for the 2008 season as a free agent and caught a career-low 17 passes for 170 yards with a touchdown in just 11 games. He was hampered by a quadriceps injury for much of the season.

The seven-year veteran from Tennessee has also played for New Orleans, Philadelphia and New England. He was selected by the Saints with the 13th overall selection of the 2002 NFL Draft.

Stallworth has 296 receptions for 4,383 yards with 32 touchdowns in his career. His best season came in 2005 with New Orleans when he caught 70 passes for 945 yards and seven touchdowns, the year before he signed with the Eagles as a free agent.
