Blackout
As a white man from the suburbs I ask, is it not universally acknowledged that Biggie is the best rapper of all time? Not at all Most people will say Pac, second most popular response usually is Nas or Biggie. people trying to be cool who don't really know rap will pretend Jay Z or Kanye the hipster response is MF Doom
Arsis
G rap, Kane would sh*t on all of those guys. Biggie was a pop star as well.

Jetlife33
I can't sit here and act like I know every one of these rappers songs and what not, so I can't honestly put them in a ranking. What I can say however is from what I've listened to over the years, Big L was insanely good and should definitely get some recognition.
RutgersJetFan
Pac's top 5. Considering how amazing Illmatic has held up over time I don't think it's any question that Nas gets that title. 3 Stacks, GZA and Rae will continue to be overlooked in this discussion, and tbh Killer Mike deserves a mention with the work he has been churning out over the past 3-4 years. RutgersJetFan
Philly? Outkast. Play his verse on Synthesizer and think of how many emcees could pull lines like that off. It's gonna be an awfully small list.
RutgersJetFan
Redman is up there too Muddy Waters part 2 is gonna be sick! Marley Marl beats! Redman is definitely an all-time great. No question. That quasi-comedy subgenre that he invented has had a much bigger legacy than people give him credit for. Action Bronson doesn't exist without Redman paving the way. RutgersJetFan
As a white man from the suburbs I ask, is it not universally acknowledged that Biggie is the best rapper of all time? Not at all. If you are talking about who could formulate narratives the best, sure, Big probably takes that title. But hip hop is like any other genre, there are different styles and techniques. As incredible as he was, even if Biggie had been able to mature and hone his craft I doubt his wordplay would have ever been as strong as Rakim's or Em's. Hell, if you are looking for who has the best overall catalogue, you might have to actually give that title to Ghostface, but the problem is his best work has largely been entire albums of non-sequiturs. I don't know how you're supposed to compare a guy like that to Tupac or Big Pun.

RutgersJetFan
i don't know if Ghostface is even top 3 in the WU GZA #1 for sure Meth second Rae/ODB/Ghost all got valid points for 3rd GZA peaked a very long time ago. He put out the single best album of any of them but he really hasn't put out any quality work since the 90s. Rae is Ghost's only match in the group at this point. And Ghost's body of work as a solo artist beats any of them into th ground. The dude has dropped like 4 classics and been the co-star on Rae's 2 classics as well. INS however has had a sneaky good run. Czarface was one of the best albums of 2013.

joebabyny
It's Rakim. He was the bridge between the true old school and the golden age of rap. His slower, methodical, more lyrical style was a major influence over all the other greats mentioned here, like Biggie, Nas, the Wu. Paid in Full is one of the most important and seminal works in hip hop.
