I don't understand why so many people are down on Mariota. If he's properly developed (read: by someone other than Wrecks), he strikes me as a rich man's Kaepernick.

I like Mariota, but he doesn't exactly jump off the page and he's certainly not worth tanking for. I also think we're at a point where any player that's missed major time with injuries should be avoided, given our luck.

A lot of OL talk in this thread. I get that OL is a genuine need, but all things being equal, I'm taking a CB over any position on the OL in the first round 10/10 times. We have a (now) decent LT under contract, and he's a guy that you really can't move to the right side. He's much more of a finesse pass blocker than a mauler. The draft would have to be piss poor to look at a guard that early.

I'd address the OL primarily thru free agency. A top FA CB goes in the $10M/year range, while the top guard is more in the $6M/range - if that. A top right tackle might be a little more. I'd spend my free agent dollars on the line, and hope to hit on the CB in the draft.

Of course, where the Jets look to be picking, QB is probably the position. Or maybe the WR, Cooper.

I can't argue with the idea -- I think Gurley will be special, but all things considered, I would rather have Cooper or Jaelen Strong who I think will shoot up draft boards as the season progresses. As a Georgia grad, I know I am biased towards Gurley,

Gurleys special. I'd MUCH rather take him than mariota or Winston.

When you're talking about a top 5 pick, you take a slam dunk, lead pipe lock. Gurley is a slam dunk, lead pipe lock.

Have to draft an offensive player in first for next 3 years minimum to get out of hole Rex has put us in offensively.

Got to roll with Milliner, McDougal, and best FA corner we can get.

No you don't. Certainly wouldn't mind if they went WR/QB in the first round, and where they're picking that's most likely the choice, but they have plenty of free agent money to take care of needs on the offensive side of the ball - particularly on the OL.

Rolling with Milliner and McDougle at CB is incredibly dangerous. They're both coming off serious leg injuries. McDougle has never played a down in the NFL, and Milliner has been up and down before the Achilles. And elite free agent CBs are very expensive, although I do think they need to take the plunge only because the cupboard is so bare at that position.

The way this is shaking out we could win a number of games behind Vick and go from pick 4 or 5 to pick 12. They really need to put Geno back in.

Ryan Leaf. This is a multi year rebuild. Draft Cooper this year, then Hackenberg next year

Rebuild?  I thought the Jets weren't allowed to do that.

If we rebuild - our fans will be buying billboards to fire the entire organization.  And unfortunately we have an owner that puts press over building a winning, competent franchise.  Under these circumstances the only way the Jets will ever win is if they get lucky enough to get a wildcard with 9 or 10 wins and then go on a miraculous run to a Super Bowl.

between our owner, the media and our impatient and easily manipulated fan base this organization has no hope.

What a dumb organization we are. Legit shot at #1 and we blew it. Oakland is going to win a game and Jax will win one more. We're going to get stuck with whatever crumbs fall to us rather than having options. But hey, at least we got to make Steelers fans feel embarrassed for 5 minutes that one time, and that's what wins championships.

you're on to something. when you are a crappy shot, best use a shotgun. we should be drafting a QB in one of the first 2 or 3 rounds every year until we find the guy.

sadly even after all the focus put on the defensive side of the ball in recent drafts, the defense, specifically the secondary, is still this team's greatest need.

So it looks like if the Jaguars beet the Titans in their head to head and we start GeNO in our last four, pretty much guaranteeing 2-14, we have a good shot of picking second after the Raiders.

If this scene holds up at the end of week 17, and if we presume the Raiders like Carr enough to stay the course, then the only thing standing between us and the Duck is a tradeup by a team like Tampa who needs a QB almost as much as we do..although McCown and Glennon are Rodgers and Brady compared to our two failures

My advice to GM X or GM Idzik would be to offer the Raiders the 400 value points necessary, trade up to one and get the Franchise QB we have been lacking for decades
