I had never heard of this before but a little web digging seems to come up with the idea that these ratings are legit.

Anyhow, here it is

Aikman efficiency ratings - week 2

AIKMAN RATINGS

Week 2

Fueled by another outstanding defensive performance, the New York Jets remain the surprising early leaders of the Aikman Combined Ratings after two weeks of the NFL season.

The teams are still shaking themselves out and there are still unequal levels of opposition, but with 10 takeaways and resolute red-zone defense, the Jets are off to a two-week rating of 110.5 on defense – a number almost unheard of on that side of the ball with the recent surge in league-wide offensive performance.

Conversely, the turnover-prone Colts have tumbled to last in Aikman Offense and last in Aikman Combined.

In Aikman Offense, the Steelers, Cardinals and Patriots are the three teams off to the best starts.

I wonder how the stats and ratings are compiled, what do they factor in?  It's great to see the Jets actually rating out good for a change.  I looked at their Week 2 Ratings from last year, has the Redskins at No. 1, so that one didn't work out, lol.  But otherwise, it seems legit, the more you go into the season.

The Aikman Efficiency Ratings were devised by - you guessed it - Troy Aikman, who was looking for a better way to rate offenses than the NFL’s "official" method of measuring offensive and defensive performance: yards gained or allowed. In 2006, together with Rick Odioso, a statistician for Fox Sports and Jim Henzler, a senior analyst for Stats Inc., Aikman created the formula for the Aikman Efficiency Ratings (A.E.R.), which combines seven stats in five categories that Aikman believed offered a truer picture of offensive and defensive strength.

The exact formula used to arrive at the ratings was never made public, and remains proprietary to Stats Inc., but we do know what the seven stats are and how they are weighted in the formula:

Metric Weight Detail
Adjusted Points 20% Total points scored or allowed minus points on returns and safeties
Turnovers 20% Turnovers allowed on offense or turnovers generated on defense
Red Zone Efficiency 20% Percent of possible points - Number of points scored on red zone opportunitiesdivided by total red zone opportunities multiplied by seven
Yards Per Play 20% 10% - Yards per rush attempt
10% - Yards per pass attempt including yards on plays involving sacks.
First Down Achievement 20% 10% - Number of 1st downs gained or allowed
10% - 3rd down conversion percentage

Or, more likely, "The Aikman Efficiency Ratings" were devised by Rick Odioso, a statistician for Fox Sports and Jim Henzler, a senior analyst for Stats Inc., who then asked Troy Aikman if they could use his name and take a participatory credit, as nobody would give a frak about the "Odioso-Henzler Football Efficiency Rating".....

I would like to see some sort of adjustment for field position, like "% of potential yards gained" so a drive from your own 1 to the 50 and a punt is rewarded somewhat as that flips field position, and if you get the ball on the 50 and drive 20 yards for a FG, yeah well big deal

Great. Another stat evaluation tool. I literally can not read stuff like this. My eyes wander all over the place and it makes no sense.

How is any of this helping me hate the other teams more?  It's NOT and therefore is useless to me.

I'm sorry that you feel compelled to respond to someone who bores you. In contrast, I find you fascinating. Are you on Grindr?

Too many piss ants allowed in here these days.  Max should have listened to Trump and built a wall.  He went for the old rope a dope and, sadly, will regret it in the end.
