SoFlaJets
To People Who Will Fight To Defend 'OUR' team when they get jobbed week in week out, year in and year out. The SNAKEBITTEN New York Jets are without a doubt the unluckiest team in all professional football, yes, year in year out. I think a lot of it has to do with an owner who doesn't see it as his place to even question what the league and the officials are doing to OUR team, he may have put up the money but the Jets are OUR team and we should start demanding better leadership or if the Johnson family refuses to compete with the rest of the league and start SPENDING to the cap limit. Maybe there needs to be a new rule written, saying that if an owner doesn't, on a consistent basis now, let's be resonable, then that owner should be forced to sell the team. If what Tommy Shane worte last night during the game is true: Bears 132 Million and the Jets 92 Million then we need to start making some noise and start sending some letters demanding the Jets get an owner that CARES enough to at the very LEAST, field a competitive team
Jetsfan80
Spending to the cap limit when your organization sucks isn't a good strategy. That's how you overpay for bad players and suck anyways. Just look at the Raiders. Anyone envying their many free agent signings now? Might as well save your money until we become an attractive destination for free agents. No idea when that will be and you're right that Woody selling the team would be awesome. SoFlaJets
Sure could use some receivers and some DB's though-nowhere to be found now unless we pull a move like the Herm-led 2005 Jets team when they signed Vinny off the couch to start... There weren't many DB's to be found THEN either. That's the point. Vontae Davis isn't helping the Colts (78 pts allowed), DMC isn't helping the Giants (77 pts allowed), Captain Munnerlyn certainly isn't helping the Bucs (95 pts allowed), and Revis wasn't coming here, ever. All things considered, our sh*tty corners have done OK. We faced off against the likes of Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb, Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffrey and have allowed fewer pts (72) than all of those teams. As for receiver, we signed the best on the market, and he's shown some WR1 flashes when he's on the field. Its just too bad he wasn't out there when we needed him most last night. Bugg
Wasn't Gutman, I mean Hess the owner?Hess had died. Bidding war/competition came down to Woody Johnson and James Dolan. DOlan's offer was actually bigger, but the NFL preferred Johnson. Seems clear that exactly as Johnson took control Parcells was looking for a payday/exit, and Bellicheat bailed. And Parcells' chosen HC, Groh, was out within a year. Actaully was in the stands at a HS game a few years back where Groh was scouting potential recruits for Virginia. He looked like a homeless bum. Jets Voice of Reason
Spending to the cap wasn't going to magically make this a SB worthy team. We're worse than just having one more nfl-caliber CB or one mid-tier WR away from contending. What's hurting this team the most is that their strategy puts a heavy emphasis on the draft panning out and so far over two years we've got horrible production and value from the two drafts overall, especially anything out of round 1. There's literally like a 40 million dollar gap between those two extremes. Yeah, there's definitely a middle ground. But people who clamored for us to spend more had trouble identifying specific players we were supposed to get. Names that were floated around have looked horrible to "OK" so far this season. I'd say Idzik made the right call in 95 % of cases if you were to go player by player. Where Idzik really needed to make his mark was in the draft. It's early and difficult to make clear judgments, but to this point, the results have very much been "mixed". Hope that changes.

stevegrunder
That just the thing, 2 offseasons, plenty of cap space, an ass load of picks and you're still rolling out a bottom 5 roster in terms of talent. This is delusional, absolutely delusional to say the Jets have bottom 5 talent. They have a top 3 Front 7, an above average OL, good RB's, average WR core, good safeties They are weak at TE, and weak at CB. I think Geno looks pretty good, but I think the offensive playcalling has been largely offensive. This is at a minimum, bare minimum a middle tier roster, more likely a roster in the 10-15 range. I love Rex, but if he is less than 9-7 this year with this team, I will not be upset if he is replaced.
stevegrunder
I don't think its that Woody does not care, I think he does, but I think winning is his second priority. First priority is to have people he can control as GM and HC. He knows he is not a football guy, but he wants to be able to influence those guys. That is by far the biggest problem with the franchise. Anyone who thinks that Rex or Tanny had anything at all to do with the Tebow fiasco are absolutely out of their minds. I don't care how much Tanny wants to take the blame for it, and Rex wants to say he was on board, that was 100% Woody Johnson. He pushed for them to draft a high QB in 2009, rather than the football guys saying this is our guy, he demanded a QB, hence the Sanchez fiasco. As much as I love Rex, hiring a GM with the condition that they must keep the HC is instantly limiting your pool. Even if they like Rex, who wants to have football decisions put on them by a dumb owner who knows nothing about football? You hire the best candidate, and let them decide the coaches fate. All this talk about cursed franchise, and Namath selling his sole, and refs hating us, its all a bunch of cop out whining babies. The reality is we have had horrible ownership for 40+ years, and largely crap results because of it. Priorities matter in life. If Woody cared more about winning than being able to input, things would be done differently. He is rich, bought the team, his prerogative, but make no mistake as to why the Jets are the Jets, and not a better franchise.

If you look at is as "we are so close we could be 3-0 right now" then you'll drive yourself crazy. The average difference between a win and a loss in the NFL is 5 points and while it sounds like only one simple TD or FG a game it's as wide as a canyon between the good teams and the bad ones.
