NEED TO REPLACE REX AND GENO - Who are the Candidates?

Jets are getting a has-been, someone that has been passed over as an coordinator for years, or a college coach. None of the marquee names are coming here. Brady Hoke has a better chance of coaching the 2015 Jets than Harbaugh does.

I agree. Chucky would never have put up with the whole "Sorry Coach, I was watching a movie and was late to meetings." The penalties, sloppy play and overall bad management lands squarely on the coach. Get Chucky in here.

Herm Edwards also went on record with Mike & Mike saying he'd bench Geno after that.  Does that make Herm a good replacement candidate as well?  Because he and Gruden share a characteristic in common:  Riding the coattails of Tony Dungy (also overrated) to undeserved HC positions.

Harbaugh is of course the top name but no chance he comes here.  Other retreads don't excite me much.

How about Joe Lombardi?

Serious question: what if Idzik gets his coach, blows the draft again and free agency and the Jets end up 5-11?

Then he is gone unless the Jets show signs of improvement on offense and discipline.

Trouble is guys like Mangold and Ferguson are getting old. Harris and Pace too.

True on those guys getting old. I guess 5-11 may be realistic no matter what happens next offseason. Still i don't see how Idzik has any accountability after he brings in a new coach. He gets another free pass for a few years no matter what.

The offense has been ignored since like 2008. The offensive line's the most important unit on the team and we've let it completely deteriorate. We cant pass block at all.

Yep, and we've done nothing to aggressively go after O-linemen and athletic LB's in the draft to eventually replace those guys.

Hoke figures in this because if Harbaugh goes anywhere it will be Michigan. One thing that is going to shock a lot of people; college football with a playoff is going to be HUGE. Going from the NFL to Michigan is not much of a downgrade at all prestige wise.

It's gonna be Quinn or Bevell, unless they can get Gruden to take a huge check.

That's a great point. The playoffs will change the landscape.

I like Quinn's odd because he has coached here before and Rex didn't retain him.

You guys should bring in Tebow for a year. Screw it. You already resigned to being on to 2015. Maybe he could get a spark. He's played with Decker before and won a play off game with him.

Tebow would be an upgrade.

The only other guy not mentioned is Shanahan.

Hopefully we just clean house entirely, bring in a GM who can choose his scouts and coaches from scratch, instead of riding the same "keep the coach, can the GM; keep the GM, can the coach" carousel.

Tebow would likely pull a 'Tebow' and will us to win some meaningless game at the end of a lost season that would cost us the chance to draft Mariota...in other words, it would be the Jets-iest thing ever.

Where did the Chargers find Tom Telesco

He was the Colts director of player personnel. He refused to interview here after learning that retaining Rex was a non-negotiable condition of employment. Way to go, Woody! Schmuck.

Yup. Right around the time Dave Caldwell chose the Jags job over us. The forced retention of Rex screwed us out of some quality candidates (not that they definitely would've taken the Jets job, but still...)

Fantastic. This might be something to consider this offseason....Idziks credibility among league circles is probably shot.

Idzik was basically the only girl left in the bar at last call. After being spurned by Gamble, Telesco, and Caldwell (and Eric Decosta, but in fairness he declined all interviews to stay with Baltimore), we were desperate to sign someone - anyone. At the end of the day, it was between Idzik, Ted Sundquist, and Omar Khan; the people perceived to be "Tier 1" candidates all balked due to the Rex situation.

It seems like Idzik was brought in to be a behind the scenes Tannenbaum(pre 2008 Tanny) while Rex and Bradway run the personnel. Gets the sweet title of GM but really has little to no power because personnel isnt his background.
