If Blown 2nd round picks was a measuring stick....the Jets would certainly garner honorable mention.

That's why the Jets hold onto them for so long.... if they're still on the roster, no foul!

Only when they're cut does it count as a blown pick! LOL

Panthers fifth-round pick Zack Sanchez waived, per source. Wow. Didn't see that coming for 1 of 3 rookie corners.

OVERVIEW

A two-time first-team All-Big 12 pick from Fort Worth, Texas, Sanchez has been a stalwart for the Sooners since taking the starting job as a redshirt freshman in 2013. He started 37 games over the past three years, missing two games this fall with a right leg injury. His slight frame worries scouts, and some questioned Sanchez's decision to leave early for the NFL, but there's no doubting his ability to play the ball (15 interceptions, 28 pass break-ups over the past three seasons). Sanchez received 2015 second team All-American notice from multiple outlets, as he not only picked off seven passes, but had 45 tackles, 3.5 for loss, and seven pass breakups.

PRO DAY RESULTS

40-yard dash: 4.5 and 4.48 seconds
Broad jump: 9 feet, 7 inches

ANALYSIS

STRENGTHS

Three-year starter. Outstanding ball production has been his calling card. Grabbed 15 interceptions during three-year career. Always looking to take the ball reading the quarterback's eyes and taking sharp angles on the throw. Has the hands and athleticism to make difficult interceptions. Great spatial feel in zone shifting from receiver to receiver and squeezing throwing windows. Mirror and match footwork combined with route recognition from man-off gives him playmaking opportunities. Carries long speed to challenge vertical targets.

WEAKNESSES

Short and rail thin for an outside cornerback. Inconsistent tackler due to size. May not have enough sand to hold up against physical receivers. Reckless habit of diving head first on slant looks only to be burned by "sluggo" (slant and go) routes. Doesn't play as fast as his forty time. Allowed 12 touchdowns over last three years and that number should have been higher (drops/overthrows). Can be turned around by clever routes. Average closing burst out of backpedal.

DRAFT PROJECTION

 Round 5

SOURCES TELL US

"He is fast and talented. I'm always partial to guys who make plays on the ball so I like him. I don't think he's tough enough to tackle so he is probably just a true nickel cornerback who you have to play outside so teams can't run it at him in the slot." -- NFC director of scouting

NFL COMPARISON

 Patrick Robinson

BOTTOM LINE

Experienced cornerback who has cover experience against current and future NFL receivers. Sanchez is a feast or famine cover man whose instincts run him into interceptions but also into aggressive mistakes that can cost his own team. His lack of size will work against him on draft day, but his ball production will be heavily weighed by teams looking for coverage help from a third cornerback.

One guy I always liked and was sorry to see leave was Antonio Allen. He's in Texans camp and last night he had a pick 6. He'll probably make the team. http://www.houstontexans.com/tv-media/videos/HIGHLIGHTS-Antonio-Allens-Pick-6/2331b191-c5c9-4d0c-8273-4d98906c1eb3

Former Jet Antonio Allen was among the players cut by the Texans.

Browns trading former first-round CB Justin Gilbert to the Pittsburgh Steelers, per league source. Rare in-division trade.

TRADE!

We should be calling the Browns they are dumping a lot of young talented prospects that have not panned out for cheap. They gave Mingo away for a 5th and Gilbert for a 6th.

For good reason, I suppose.

Still they were projected to be game changers coming out of college, a change in scenery sometimes is all these guys need to perform at an elite level. I am thinking Mingo is going to have at least 8 good games this season when the Patriots play at home.

Kamu Grugier-Hill cut by the Patriots.  Great athlete and special teams demon who may have a future as a S/LB hybrid.  He is the one Patriot cut that I, as a Pats fan, worry about another team scooping up.

How is the O-line looking for the Pats so far? How does Warmack look?

A disaster and the potential downfall of this year's team (even more so than not having Brady until week 5).  Their best O-lineman (Vollmer) is likely out for the year.  That leaves 2 guys who are average at best (Solder and Cannon) at LT and RT.  With Vollmer out, their best O-lineman is a 2016 3rd round pick (Thuney at LG) who was criticized on draft day as a reach, but thankfully he already looks like a long-time starter.

That leaves a JAG center (Andrews, a UDFA last year) and an open spot at RG for whichever of a trio of talented but oft-injured players -- Mason, Jackson and Cooper (whom I knew you meant to say instead of Warmack) -- manages to stay healthy.

The backups are all terrible, especially this dude Fleming, a slow moving, slow reacting, OT who would have been out of the league years ago if the Pats had anyone remotely decent who could take his spot.  BB will be combing the waiver wire carefully this weekend.   Not a good situation.

Anyone for Sanchez II @ SAR I

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Broncos are still working to trade Mark Sanchez.

In the cut-day dance, leaking you are attempting to trade someone is the final step before officially releasing them. With Sanchez destined for the street, there is little chance another team will give up anything of value. Trevor Siemian will open the season as the Broncos' starter.

Thanks. I loved Mason coming out of Ga.Tech. Still think he will be good. Your backup situation sounds just like ours. It was truly horrifying watching the game the other night.

I'm a big fan of Mason as well.  Extremely athletic and a beast in the run game.  Questions are can he stay healthy and improve in the passing game?  I hope so, but we shall see.
