I just noticed that the team stats I posted and looked at are reversed from yours. Meaning, it's worst first. best last. I assumed the opposite. Im wrong. Lets hope the Jets have a better time of it than I did today.

Maccagnan has been nothing short of atrocious in four out of four phases of GM'ing: free agency, drafting, and re-signing his own players, and trading.

On the free agency front, he's done nothing but apply short-term bandaids (one/two year stop-gaps) at key positions of need (Terrell Pryor, Kelvin Beachum, Morris Claiborne, Josh McCown, Matt Forte, etc.). On the trading front, he's done very much the same (Brandon Marshall for a 5th, Ryan Clady for a 5th, Ryan Fitzpatrick for a 7th, etc.) and then doubled-down on blowing draft picks by trading up for nobodies like Bryce Petty.

In free agency, he blew through $100 million+ signing guys like Revis and Cromartie and then threw more money away at re-signing his washed-up veterans like Davis Harris.

He re-upped Brian Winters at exactly the wrong time, overpaying for him, and then managed to somehow get nothing in return (a four year deal) for all that money he spent. Brian Winters will be ready to cash-in again as a free agent at 29 years old; if Maccagnan was going to overpay for Winters, fine - but overpay in years 1 and 2 and get a longer deal locked up so you can recognize savings in years 3-5). Don't sign him to a 4 year freaking deal, where the guy is going to be in the middle of his prime and expecting one last huge payday.

Need I even bring up paying Wilkerson a boat-load of money while they watched Damon Harrison walk across the hall to the Giants?

How about his drafting, which has been atrocious as well. Sorry, but drafting the lowest-risk players at the least-important positions with the #6, #6, and #21 picks is NOT a Super Bowl winning strategy. It's the sign of a spineless blowhard.

Mike Maccagnan is a millionaire living in metro NYC and still drinks Dunkin' Donuts coffee every day. He can't "scout" coffee, it's no wonder that he can't scout football players.

Well I won't disagree that there is a talent deficiency here. But Macc traded up to 3, so I think he stays just for that. I do think the Jets will be viewed as lucky because the Browns and Giants passed. But we have waited forever for a QB, so I don't think the guy that just got him will be fired. That said, the drafting has been terrible no disagreement there.

I think he stays. I don’t think he deserves to.

One good (lucky) pick doesn’t undo dozens of weak picks and signings and a low success rate and low team talent.

And the trade cost us a lot of picks, so it’s not like he did something special there. He had a clear need and traded up only far enough to guarantee the third best at that need. That luck gave us the #1 at that need is luck not skill.

But I do agree, his lucky pick probably bought him and Bowles 2 more years min and us two more weak drafts and mediocre seasons, Darnold or not.

maybe a good time to stop coming off so brash on the board? Maybe? Possibly? Or not.

There is NOTHING wrong with giving kudos for Mac for getting Darnold.  Did he fall to us?  Yes, but without the trade-up, without getting a Jermaine Kearse AND a 2nd pick, we don't get him.  Was it a bit lucky, yes....but sometimes you get lucky when you make smart and bold moves.

That being said, Mac's drafting history has been under par.  He has WAY too many misses.  You can't get one pick per year working out.  That is how you wind up over-paying in FA, and that never works well.  Teams that draft well consistently do well in the NFL....period.  We do NOT draft well consistently.....period.

I'm not anti-Mac and believe he's been shrewd in other GM aspects that are necessary like trades, contract structures, and netting good "value."

But I have to admit that there's more evidence than to the contrary that Mac HAS BEEN THUS FAR sub-par drafter outside of the top 10. His most astute draft move was to trade up for Brandon Shell in the 4th round of 2016 considering the dearth of OL talent that was the 2017 draft.

He needs FURTHER investment in the scouting dept. and KEEP HEIMERDINGER AT ALL COSTS!!!!

If I came across brash, it wasn't intentional. I apologize if I did, I enjoy reading everyone's views on the team we root for. Sometimes on this and probably every team sports forum there's instant and sometimes premature judgement on players and play calling. Etc. etc. It's the nature of the beast, I guess. Maybe frustrated with that, I get a little brash. I'll be more chill from now on. I hope!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you go until the Jets following pick, who by the way is ALSO not on the team:

Derek Rivers DE

Chris Godwin WR

Kareem Hunt RB

Davis Webb QB (which we now have)

Kenny Golladay

Shaquill Griffin DB

Nico Saragusa G

Fabian Moreau CB

D'onta Foreman RB

Cordrea Tankersley CB

Trey Hendrickson DE

Carl Lawson OLB

David Sharpe OT

Julie'N Davenport OT

So, you know, almost every-other pick after him is/has shown some good/great potential, but hey......

Whoa, this list is kind of long and I'm lazy.  Can you come up w/ a Cliff's Notes version of this post for me?  TIA!

Macc is weird, he seems to scout the random unheralded guys well but can't seem to scout major programs, and I'm wondering if it's an issue with scouting approach.

Macc came from Houston under Rick Smith, and receivers picked:

2006: David Anderson (late round)

2007: Jacoby Jones (3rd Rd)

2008: No Receiver of Note

2009: No Receiver of Note

2010: No Receiver of Note

2011: No Receiver of Note

2012: Devier Posey (3rd round) and Keshawn Martin (4th Round)

2013: DeAndre Hopkins (First Round), Alan Bonner (6th Round)

2014: No Receiver of Note

2015: Jalen Strong (3rd Round - I believe a ton of people went crazy over this because Strong was high on draftnik boards, and we traded them that slot). Keith Mumphrey (5th round)

2016:  Will Fuller (1st Round) Braxton Miller (3rd Round)

2017:  No Receiver of Note

2018: Keke Coutee (4th round) He has no stats, and way too early to tell.

So outside of first round guys in Hopkins/Fuller they whiffed over and over again.  I'm wondering if it's a scouting philosophy where they are just looking for the wrong things with guys that may have question marks.
