Rex had more success than any Jets HC since Ewbank. He was still liked by a significant amount of fans and was adored by his players. 

Adam Gase is the least credible human being in the history of the NFL. He won't be allowed near another NFL franchise. He is a joke

2 worst days for this franchise over the last few years; the above,and the day Maccagnan took Adams over Mahomes or Watson.

He signed Frank Gore in an apparent arrangement to get his friend to the 16,000 Yard Rushing Milestone, and neglected everything else. LOL. Gore didn't even have the decency to stand on the sidelines after hitting 16K, dude couldn't get off the field and out of that uniform fast enough.

Rex had success with the Jets. He took the team to back-to-back title games and by the end of the 2013 season (where we went 8-8) we weren't that far removed from those years yet.

To be even more fair to Rex, by that point, he had only had 1 losing season (2012). 

Gase has been a disaster from day 1. He doesn't have the clout Rex had.

He showed his “tell”.  When he said “I truly mean that”, it means he doesn’t.
