Mets Kevin Parada.
Probably best hitter in the Draft! Most pro ready

Will he be going to the Nats for Soto!

Alvarez is #2 prospect in baseball for Mets at Catcher.

Interesting where Mets are going.

no...

Didn't take long for that rumor to get started.

Yeah, I brought it up because Perada is a college age player who will be pro ready in ‘24 with his bat and arm. With Alvarez perhaps coming up this September , not certain what Mets are thinking.
I can see Cohen going all in on Soto

If both guys prove to be good mlb caliber catchers, that is a good problem to have.  As of now, neither guy has done anything at the major league level.  I am not too worried about it, it will work itself out.

Mets acquire disciplined hitter in Kevin Parada
This is a best-case scenario for the Mets, getting the player I voted for to win the Golden Spikes Award this year, as Kevin Parada can really hit, and has plus power, and is good enough to stay behind the plate – although there are some scouts who think that he will eventually have to move to another position.

He’s very disciplined as a hitter and despite a weird start, holding the bat over his back shoulder like it’s annoying him, he shows quick wrists and has hit better-quality pitching while at Georgia Tech. I know the Mets have one of the very best prospects left in the minors in Francisco Alvarez, but there is no such thing as having too many catching prospects.

To go from not signing Kumar Rocker a year ago to landing a top-five talent this year is a complete 180, and Mets fans should feel very good about ending up here.

Could Jett Williams be the next Alex Bregman?
The Mets were rumored to be on Jett Williams all spring, and who can blame them? He’s short, but does everything you’d want as a hitter – he almost never whiffs, he has a clean, efficient swing, and runs well enough that he should end up an asset on defense at second or center, as he’s probably not staying at shortstop.

I remember a lot of questions about Alex Bregman in high school because he was undersized and had no chance to stay at shortstop, and he turned out okay. I think Williams has a chance to surprise people with power as he gets a little stronger and his feel to hit right now is among the best in the class. That’s a great 1-2 punch for the Mets with their two picks, and they won’t have to go over slot for either guy, leaving room to do something creative in the second round.

New York Mets select SS Jett Williams No. 14
Williams is the other 5-foot-8 high school shortstop in this draft class, behind Termarr Johnson because of the latter’s elite hit tool … but how far behind, really? He’s a right-handed hitter with a clean, efficient swing, and his hand-eye coordination rivals Johnson’s; Williams almost never swung and missed last summer on the showcase circuit and didn’t show any trouble with velocity when he faced it. He’s an above-average to plus runner, quick enough for shortstop but lacking the arm strength or footwork for the position in the long term, so it’s more likely he’ll move to second base or possibly center field.

11. New York Mets: Kevin Parada, C, Georgia Tech

Who is Parada? The clear top catching prospect in this class, Parada busted out at the plate for Georgia Tech, batting .361 with 26 home runs and 88 RBIs in 60 games. Prior to the 2022 breakout, he was viewed more as a hit-over-power prospect, evidenced by his nine long balls in 52 games for the Yellow Jackets in 2021. His defense projects to be strong enough to keep him behind the plate as a pro, but the bat is what has scouts excited

Why the Mets took him here: The Mets had to be pleasantly surprised to have Parada fall into their laps. Fourth on ESPN MLB draft expert Kiley McDaniel's last draft ranking board, Parada was viewed as a consensus top-five selection in mock drafts. Of course, the Mets already have the best catching prospect in the minors in Francisco Alvarez, but those things will work themselves out if Parada develops -- whether that means a position change or a timeshare at catcher/DH with Alvarez in the future. -- Schoenfield

14. New York Mets: Jett Williams, SS, Rockwall Heath HS (TX)

Who is Williams? Standing just 5-foot-8 (at most), Williams swings from his heels while also managing to make consistent contact at the plate. He has elite quickness, a strong arm, fast hands and power that makes drafting a player his size seem a lot less risky. With a hit tool to go with his physical ability, Williams is a favorite of scouts who flocked to Texas to see him play this spring.

Why the Mets took him here: After going with a polished college prospect in Parada with the No. 11 overall pick, they switched gears and are betting big on upside here. Williams has the potential to be the single most dynamic player taken tonight with elite speed and quick hands highlighting an array of loud tools and a strong hit tool. That all makes him getting to his upside seem less risky than you might think for a 5-foot-8 high school prospect. -- Mullen

If you have no interest in MLB, then why, I ask, did you even open this thread?  Just to post your message board patrol response?  THumbs down buddy.  Don't open the thread.

Excited about Parada for sure.

Jett Williams Ss out of Texas HS. Everyone of the analysts love the kids bat & motor. Good speed but only 5’8”. Dykstra of the infield?

Pedroia and Altuve both had pretty good careers as shorter middle infielders.

Interesting where Mets are going.

Mauricio, Prada, Vientos would be a ‘start’ to pry Soto from Nats. You know they are going all psycho to get as much as possible for him. One thing for sure, Cohen will not let Skanks out duel him for Soto.

The Yankees low-balled Judge and they are going to go after the guy that turned down $450M?

Yes… Cohen doesn’t seem amenable to losing out on a player. See Sherzer contract as example

They can't trade Parada until the offseason.  From the Athletic:

So, which of these guys can be traded for Juan Soto?

None of them. A team’s amateur draft selections are not eligible to be traded until after that year’s World Series. And no, they can’t even be included as a player to be named later until that point, either. That rule was changed after recent draft pick Trea Turner was dealt as a player to be named and ended up playing a bunch of games for San Diego’s affiliate when everyone knew he was going to Washington.

Still, maybe you raised your eyebrows when Tanous said, “As a team that’s competitive, we make a lot of trades so we have to keep refilling that system. This year gives us a chance to get ahead.” And sure, if the Mets felt compelled to include Álvarez in a deal for Soto, it’s nice to have Parada as a fall-back prospect at the position. But Parada was a clear enough choice there that selecting him doesn’t suggest anything about a trade in the works.

Soto is the best young player in baseball. Judge is 30 already. Soto is just 23 and his best is ahead of him. So yea if they get a chance, I’m pretty sure they’d break the bank for Soto and let Judge walk.

It never made sense for the Nats any way. They traded for Keibert Ruiz last year in the Turner trade, and he is a well thought of backstop with a bright future.
