New York Jets, Haason Reddick Contract Saga No Longer About Fines. Game checks are now on the line, to the tune of $852,941 for each game missed.

Wilson wasn't widely considered the best WR of the group; there wasn't really any consensus that year. Some folks thought it would be London, some Wilson, some Jameson Williams. They were considered very close, talent wise, with none of them as a clear stud

I remember it more like being 50-70% of sources (including kiper/ESPN) having Wilson top, with some having one of the other guys ahead. Particularly those that prioritize the upside of big X guys.

Regardless, it wasn't exactly a difficult scouting job or choice for JD, which is my main point. Wilson was a layup, NFL ready from day 1, as were each of those 3.

Even if the jets somehow end up with the first pick in '26/27/28, drafting a QB is never that easy.

If Reddick doesn't play, that cap room will just slide to next year (when we really need it).

I assume he will either play, or get traded, in which case we will mostly offset that lost pick.  So it's not really costly.  Just that we might have been able to do something else with the resources now.  Let's see how the first few weeks go.

Why are you assuming all is lost and he’s never playing a snap here ?

It's not just the sacks.  Huff was incredibly disruptive.   JFM was a very solid player.

You're now going to have Clemmons playing JFM reps and Mac playing Huff reps.  We really have no idea what Mac is - none.  We know he's exceptionally small - but does seem to possess that impressive spin move.  We'll see how it plays out but I think it's highly unlikely he'll be as disruptive as Huff.

Reddick is a top pass rusher and we're in a season (for the first time in a long time) where we have a legitimate shot to make some noise.  Why you guys care so excited about not paying this guy I can't possibly understand.

Fun fact;

From 2022 to 2023 - the Jets had the exact same amount of QB pressures.  160.   There pressure rate?  25% and 26%.  45 sacks to 48 sacks.

You'll notice something very similar about Will McD and Huff from 1 year to the next, you'll also notice the flocculation of sacks numbers between players.  Namely, what you'll see when analyzing the data, is the system produces pressure, no matter who they use.

Not saying it's a slam dunk that this will happen - but it wouldn't surprise me if it did.

The complete lack of communication between JD & Reddick/Reddick's agent, for the entirety of the off-season is very troubling.

If they would have had at least some level of communication, it wouldn't seem so hopeless.

The fact that they're not talking at all, I don't know, just feels pretty bleak to me.

In a season where you're built to win now, that $15 million could have been allocated to someone who would actually play. The Jets were set up to win this year (Tyron Smith, Mike Williams, etc.). Reddick not being here is money and resources that could have been spent elsewhere.

Reddick is not in a situation where he hasn’t signed a tag. He’s under contract. He’s going to realize JD is not giving him a long term deal over the weekend.  His position was never great but it gets worse every day.

I’m no cap expert, but it doesn’t look like a big deal cap wise.

This was discussed extensively in this thread yesterday, and the conclusion was that the fines could be as high as the 5M range. It was the exchange that you were annoyed about, and said that people who were raising questions about the amount  “were too damn lazy to do some research.” Remember?

That was specifically referring to posters such as yourself, not looking for the pre-season game check fines, which had been posted here, several times previously - yep I remember.

Sorry if your ego was bruised - the truth hurts sometimes.

I’m no cap expert, but it doesn’t look like a big deal cap wise.

The point is that you could have used that $16M for another player. Right now, the Jets can't spend that money because if Reddick shows up, they're on the hook for his salary and whoever else they bring in. It's effectively a roster spot that is sitting on idle that can't be filled with anyone who costs anything.

Why are you assuming that he is never playing for the Jets ?

jets have plenty of space.

I'm not going to ask why because I know you likely don't have an answer and if you did it would more than likely not make a lick of sense.

We have other warriors that worked their tails off during the offseason. He can sit his ass the rest of the year as far as I am concerned.

Who are you sitting out for Reddick?

That number is EXCLUDING Reddick's $16 million cap number. So they're actually $2 million under. If they sign/acquire someone for $15 million and Reddick show's up, they're now massively over the cap.

Do you see the dilemma here?

Who are you sitting out for Reddick?

Anybody not named Reddick and the pass rush is instantly better. Him and JJ rushing will be like that Denver team that carried broke neck Peyton to his 2nd Superbowl win.
