Sheffield, who has been outspoken this season on other topics as well, including deferred money in his contract and the possibility of being traded, attributed some of his negative feelings about the Classic to the risk of being injured during the event -- which would take players away from their MLB teams during spring training.

1) Schilling is definitely the biggest a-hole in baseball. Bonds is #2 because he doesn't try to pretend that he's not an a-hole. Jeff Kent is third, Giambi is four because of the steroids/cancer debacle.

2) Shef, as usual, gets caught trying to say something valid but not having the mental ability to state it. The Classic is nothing more than a marketing scam meant to make money. It has NOTHING to do with national pride and it has nothing to do with proving who has the "best" baseball players in the country. Hundreds of millions of dollars will change hands with this event and the players have a valid point that, if they're not going to get a piece of it, they shouldn't have to play. If a BIG player like a Pujols or a Jeter breaks his ankle in this pay-per-view garbage then I guarantee there will never be another "Classic" again unless they stock it with NCAA talent.

3) As for Shef, I think he's an intelligent guy who mistakes being outspoken with being an a$$hole. If he handled himself a little more professionally people would take him a bit more seriously. His mouth has cost him millions in endorsements that he should have had but never will. He is this generation's Jim Rice.

It is a different story for those like Pudge or a Bobby Abreu or even a Matsui where playing for country is a great honor.

The USA has sadly become a capitalistic country where "Yeah we'll do it but for a price" I would bet ya that if you threw some cash the way of some these guys their tune would change real quick.
