Irsay, Colts working on a big trade; rumored to be for a CB

It's all on Twitter, so there's no story to c&p, but Irsay was tweeting a bunch of ish about his GM closing in on a big, expensive trade. Follow-ups from a few beat guys indicated that it was rumored to be for a CB.

This is on the same day that Tennessee just extended out the other McCourty brother for fat money. Could Revis or Cromartie be in play? Revis represents a $12 mil hit, iirc.

I can't imagine what they would give for Revis this season. I also can't imagine what our WR corp would look like without Cro.

Id be stunned if the Jets moved either guy. If they were traded their hits would be spread over two years so it can work in the cap but I cant see any possible reason they would do it. The Jets cant give up on the season like that. Wilson would be the only guy reasonable to move and I cant see why anyone would want him. More likely they would be looking at getting another teams junk like DeAngelo Hall or Dunta Robinson.

Maybe they want another receiver and will take Santonio.

MJD isn't a free agent Einstein.

Jax is open to trades for picks nummy.

MJD is toxic because he wants relative big money - hes made 21 Mil over the last 3 years and now his contract pays peanuts. Theres now way the Jets can have him with Revis holding his hands out next year.

Just can't see the Jets moving Revis to the Colts. What could we get for him that would make sense? Luck is the only guy that makes sense, and Revis isn't nearly enough.

What else... Reggie Wayne, [another good player], Winston Justice and a 3rd round pick for Revis? Can't see it.

Maybe Cromartie? Would you guys give up Cro for Wayne, Justice and a throw in?

Just a joke, but what would our reaction be tomorrow if it was Sanchez, Revis and 2 1st round picks for Luck?

The Jets are not going to trade Revis and then trade for MJD. If anything the Colts are going to trade for MJD themselves. The best healthy back on their roster of Mewelde Moore.

Really? LOL

MJD solves 2 Jets problems in 1. The Jets RBs and OL suck, but MJD is a player that you game plan to stop. He could run behind those Bums, and nobody game plans to shut down Shawn Green and Scotty McNugget - both Tanny scrubs. MJD creates play action and takes pressure of the Jets porous OL and wobbly knee QBs.

My reaction? I'd rub one out to the tears of all the Colts' fans around the country.

You mean Shonne Greene and Joe McKnight? Seriously, if you're going to dis our roster at least make it look like you know the names of our crappy RBs.

The Jets are not trading Revis. I know you're scared of him, you'll just have to deal with it.

They are going to pay MJD big cash so Luck can hand off to him while the Jets want to Ground and Pound?

:face:

We don't know what kind of team the Colts are. They have a new HC, a new OC, and a rookie QB with pure crap at RB. MJD could be a huge help to Luck, Barney.

PFT on the subject:

Irsay tweets about “trade winds” involving “serious vet/starter”

Posted by Mike Florio on August 23, 2012, 7:44 PM EDT

After Peyton Manning was fired and Andrew Luck was hired, we didn’t think there would be much for Colts owner Jim Irsay to tweet about.

Wrong again.

Irsay says, with enough all caps to hurt the eyeballs and exclamation points to make Jake Jarmel hurl, that the trade winds are blowing. He says that they’re “talking about giving up high pick for a SERIOUS Vet/Starter,” and that his “check book stands ready!”

The obvious targets are Steelers receiver Mike Wallace and Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew. As to Wallace, Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians served as the Steelers offensive coordinator for all three years of Wallace’s career. As to Jones-Drew, former coach Tony Dungy has said multiple times that he wanted to draft Jones-Drew in 2006. Wallace is the more likely target, even though the Steelers have said he won’t be traded. Coach Chuck Pagano has said Donald Brown will be the “bell cow” tailback. Besides, the Jags likely wouldn’t want to trade Jones-Drew within the division.

Regardless, Irsay’s reference to his “check book” means that, whoever the player is, he will be expecting a new contract. Stay tuned to Irsay’s Twitter page.

UPDATE 7:50 p.m. ET: Irsay, perhaps realizing that tweeting about a possible trade may not get it done, especially if it wakes up some other team that could be interested in acquiring Wallace or Jones-Drew, has now decided to “move behind the curtain!“ Unfortunately for Colts fans, the great and powerful Oz already has spoken.

UPDATE 10:06 P.M. ET: Nothing in here about a CB or the Jets. T0mShane is probably punking JN once again.

According to Jason LaCanfora:

"Some have suggested a cornerback, like Mike Jenkins of the Cowboys or Cary Williams of the Ravens," La Canfora wrote Thursday night, "but it is not either of those players, league sources said. The Colts are seeking offensive line help and targeting options there, and a veteran tackle could be what they're seeking. Teams are often reluctant to deal those players, especially in their prime."

That would be hilarious if the Dolphins traded Jake Long and thats the team being discussed. For whatever reason they havent re-upped him and he is due a big deal next year. Miami seems to have no long term plan and they drafted a tackle so I wonder if they would actually be a long shot possibility for trade.

That only make sense to who? The colts didnt tank their season to draft this guy to then trade him for a Corner.

FWIW I did read something earlier in the offseason that Mike Sherman felt that Long was wrong for his offense.

To the Jets, I mean. I'm saying if we were talking about dealing Revis to them, they don't have much they can offer. Revis would be too little for Luck, probably too much for anyone else they have.

Makes loads of sense. Long wants Joe Thomas money and the Fins are dead set against doing that.
