Problem with blaming the WRs is that you have to give Sanchez a pass then as well. You can't deny Sanchez was a decent QB when he had Holmes, Cotchery, Braylon, Tomlinson and a decent TE. Then he also had a top three line and a great running game. Now there is a steaming pile on the offensive side of the ball. How can you judge? And how can you bring in a new rook with nothing to work with. It's a total cluster****. There is no easy solution. Two years to build an offense, minimum. Then we can judge.

His brother rated about that his first year with much better, experienced receivers and he ended up winning two Super bowls.

But the giants have two things we dont: competent coaching and one of the best ownerships in the league

Geno stinks, the WRs stink, and the offensive line stinks. Anyone who thinks they can distinguish exactly where one pile of sh*t ends and the next begins, is full of exactly that.

the OL is 4 good players and 1 awful player. They take over the game any time the Jets win. Thats how they beat the Saints and the other 4 wins from this season. They did it briefly last week in the 3rd quarter. None of this adds up to them being best in the league or anything but they are about average. THat's way better than the QB/WR. Saying they all stink is selling the OL short.

Who are the 4 good players?  You've complained about Colon since the signing...he's good now?  lol

The line is terrible.  PFF has them as one of the worst in the league and they made this grade before their last 2 debacles.  I'd bet they're even further down the list now being that the last 2 games are by far their worst performances of the year.

With the new rookie wage scale you can make the argument a team without a QB should draft one every year in the first round until they find the guy

I agree 100%. Without a competent QB in this league, you are doomed. The Jets 1st pick this year should be a QB, if he stinks, do it again next year.

As I said in another post, I would not be against CUTTING SMITH, and Sanchez. You just have to keep trying. Until you get one. Cleveland will be drafting a QB again, as Weeden is not the answer. Jacksonville will be trying again as Gabbert is not the answer.

Hell, Seattle spent gazillions on FLYNN, and still drafted Wilson, and finally they got their man, and look at them now, a freaking juggernaut.

No, I agree completely, DRAFT A QB in the 1st round and even trade up to get the one you want. If he fails, try again.PLEASE.

I was responding to a post that equated Geno to the WR to the OL. compared to geno and the WR, the Jets OL is amazing. Using your PFF example the fact that they aren't dead last make them less terrible than Geno.

Split hairs if you must, but at best the offensive line is poor. You want to get into degrees of suck, that's fine. I couldn't care less about the comparison between last and the basement.

a great QB can overcome a bad OL

a great OL cannot overcome a bad QB

(and right now, neither QB nor OL are great... just to be clear... )

it's not the OL that's holding this team back. the OL could be awesome and the offense still wouldn't be functional. best case you get 2009/2010 Jets with a great OL and a shady QB.

Not arguing with any of this. Just talking about what is happening presently on the Jets. That being, suck all over the offense.

So...are they "about average," or are they "less terrible than Geno"?

I literally care about nothing else. Please make our losses watchable at least. Sign someone like cutler and worry about the other stuff afterward. Enough is enough.

the fact that you suggest cutler makes this entire thread invalid and if i could id ban you for a day for wasting our time...

The Dolphins OL lost two players and Ryan has been sacked more than any Jets QB.  The Packers OL stinks.    The Broncos had injuries and had to move a bunch of people around.  If you look around the NFL, most teams have OL issues.   The Jets have two guys who have been pro bowl OL. They have another guy who is supposed to be decent,  they have a rookie from the 3rd round, and so on.      This theory that a team needs 4-5 Pro Bowl OL all the time to even compete is absurd.    Players get hurt, players have bad years, players move positions, and so on.   You work with what you have and thats how it goes.   The Jets problem is they have no Talent on offense.

They had a hell of an OL back in 2009 and the Jets were still an 8-8 that had to sneak into the playoffs.

What the Jets have lacked is a talented offense. Hell when was the last time this team even had an offense anybody feared.  The 80's with Walker, Toon, and O'Brien?  And even then they weren't spectacular, just better than what we've seen for years.   The Jets were a ground and pound defensive team even with Parcell's. It's just Testaverde could at least throw the damn ball.  But then he got hurt.

Could they use another good OL? Of course, but this theory that a team needs 4-5 Pro Bowl OL never makes sense to me.   Guys like Brady and Manning and even Rodgers and Brees get rid of the ball in like 3 seconds.   The Jets QBs hold onto the ball for 10 seconds.   It's far easier to hold your blocks when your QB dumps the ball off in a few seconds.

And again, the Dolphins running game sucks and their OL sucks. Ryan T has been sacked the most in the NFL.   They still had an easy time against the Jets.

great post dude. Most people watching this Jets OL aren't looking at other team's OL when they make these statements.  Pressure is on the menu for every NFL QB in 2013 the question is how does the QB deal with it? If he never beats the blitz, why not blitz all game ?

The Dolphins had an easy time against the Jets because

1) Their passing game was basically 3 steps from Tannehill and get the ball out. (Negates the pass rush)

2) The Jets secondary sucks.

Brady sits back in the pocket alot of times and could probably order take out their O-Line has been that good at times. When you pressure Brady instead of being great he becomes very good.

Has any one noticed that since the Pats got Gronkowski back their scoring has gone up from about 20 points a game to 34 ?

Has anyone also noticed that since their only legit WR (Kerley) has gone out with a disclocated elbow that the offense has totally gone into the tank.

There is not one skill player on this team that an opponent has to worry about. They can go and load 7-8-9-10 guys in the box right now to shut down the run because they know that the WR's are not threat and even they were Geno right now can't get the ball to them. Even Buffalo right now laughs at us right now with their skill players.

Geno starts in a shotgun and instead of stepping up in the pocket like he should he is taking 7 more steps back.

Who said anything about needing probowl talent at every position?  I'm simply pointing out the OL stinks right now.  It obvious when you watch the games and its fortified with metrics.

Currently, the Jets OL is one of the worst in the league.

This statement is true if you watch the NY Jets and look at the metrics.

I'd love to see the updated metrics based on the last 2 games...I bet they're close to dead last.

The "metrics" are what... PFF grades?  Mangold actually had a good game against MIA if you believe PFF.
