greenwichjetfan
I signed up for Netflix and HBOGo back in August, and in the seven months since, I've managed to race through (in order from best to least best; not worst because they were all great): - Breaking Bad - True Detective - Game of Thrones - The Wire - Newsroom - House of Cards - Entourage - Hung So, what should I watch next? I'm looking forward to watching the shows below, but after just finishing Breaking Bad on Saturday and letting it digest, I don't know if I'm going to be able to enjoy them. Maybe you guys can shed some light on them: - How to make it in America - The West Wing - Dexter - Sopranos - Deadwood - Rome - Boardwalk Empire - Sherlock Any suggestions and discussions would be appreciated. The Crusher
No. **** no. Prolly not. Yes. **** yes. Hell ******* yes. First two seasons **** yes. British. It takes about 2-4 episodes to understand what the hell they are saying but "Peaky Blinders" is pretty outstanding. Post WWI crime family drama takes place in England. Really exceptional.
The Crusher
I might be the only person who watches it but I find, "Grimm" to be very interesting and entertaining. One of my all time favorites.

RutgersJetFan
Also Fargo is necessary. Probably above all the other shows you listed and maybe anything else you can think of.
The Crusher
Also Fargo is necessary. Probably above all the other shows you listed and maybe anything else you can think of. Fargo was excellent. Billy Bob was epic. The elevator scene in the casino made me tingle. It's coming back with a different cast so Im not sure. Actually the first two season of Bates Motel was way better than I thought. slats
You liked the Newsroom better than House of Cards? I hated the Newsroom. The first three years of Dexter were really good, with the third being my favorite. After that, the show fell off a cliff. Agree with Rutgers on Fargo, and the last five on your to-watch list being very good choices. Justified, Mad Men, Top of the Lake (mini series), and Rectify are all great. Orange is the New Black is fun.

Isn't it one of the most awarded TV Dramas ever? Granted I was like 10, but I remember people talking about it a lot. Peaky Blinders was up for debate as well. Forgot about that. Remember the story that Molly's dad tells Billy Bob in that (absolutely incredible) diner scene? That case is going to be Season 2. That elevator scene...really just every single scene with Billy Bob in every episode. It's amazing how he makes every line so epic.

Orange is the New Black is fun. The Newsroom was different and interesting. For whatever reason, I was seemingly always one step ahead of House of Cards. Also, the third season was absolute sh*t. No one gives a **** about claire underwood's UN crap. Dexter I'm afraid of watching because so many friends have told me that now that I've seen Breaking Bad, Dexter's gonna suck. I should have done it the other way around. Mad Men is the only TV drama that I genuinely kept up with because I fell in love with it from the very first episode. So I'm currently waiting in legit anticipation for Sunday night.

RutgersJetFan
I'm trying to fill the time until GoT starts and I started watching The Wire. Is it one of those shows that takes six episodes to get into? Similar to GoT and Breaking Bad. First season is decent. Second season is very good. Third through final seasons are mind blowing holy sh*t awesome. Thing is you need to catch it from the beginning for the payoff to be worth it. It's good so far in terms of the writing and the acting, but everyone I ever talked to about it says it's the gawd drama series of all time. btw, the one thing I've encountered with people that legit makes me hate them is when I recommend Breaking Bad to them and they watch two episodes and tells me it's boring. I want to hurt them so much. I tell them to just start with Season Three and eat a dick.

It saved Netflix and made streaming media what it is today. Not to mention it's ******* insane. Ozymandias might be the greatest hour of anything ever written. Morrissey
Well you need to watch The Sopranos right away. Then Mad Men, Fargo (make sure you watch the movie version of Fargo first), The Knick, Boardwalk Empire, The West Wing, and the first 4-5 seasons of Dexter, stop watching after that because the writing take a nose dive. For comedies Louie, Veep, Orange is the New Black, Girls, Broad City.

The problem with live streaming it so far down the line is that we lose the appreciative value of a show breaking ground. The people whom I know who call The Wire the best drama series ever are the ones that watched it real time, back when they were breaking ground with character arcs and topnotch writing. They had nothing to compare it to at the time. I just watched The Wire last month after completing GoT and True Detective, and just finished Breaking Bad. As of right now 2015, I'd put True Detective above The Wire and neck at neck with GoT, with Breaking Bad above them all. But it's kinda unfair to The Wire because it was the first to do it. This is why it's hard to explain to someone why The Sopranos is so legendary. It's still very good to start now, absolutely, but that was the show that started it all and the entire country was hooked every week for so long. Nowadays with the quality of shows being so much higher, The Sopranos looks more like a comparative equal rather than the top dog, which is was for so long. Plus with binge watching, you don't develop the same sense of connection to that family. My sister and I were AJ and Meadow's ages when that show came on, and we were in the Jersey suburbs, so it was like watching a mirror version of us.
Morrissey
The Sopranos and Breaking Bad are 1a and 1b for me. After that it's real close between The Wire and Mad Men. Game of Thrones not far behind them. It's really the golden age of television. I appreciate the heck out of it. For the newer shows just getting started, I enjoyed both Fargo and The Knick more so than True Detective.

That's interesting perspective. I think my issue is--and this spans every medium for me--is that I hear the hype and rarely does anything match the hype it receives, which is why I like to see movies I might like the afternoon they're released, before every jerkoff at my job tells me how great something is, only to find out that it's not, in fact, great. I like being surprised by things like Kingsman, which was legitimately cool. Now, when something I see matches the hype? Boner city. Breaking Bad, The Avengers, GoT, fuhggedaboutit.

RutgersJetFan
I hear the hype and rarely does anything match the hype it receives I love you dude but this is absolute horsesh*t. If I had a nickel for every time you waxed poetic on a preconceived notion about a movie, then came on after seeing it and elaborated about how those ideas were confirmed, I'd have at least....$4.65. There is no way in hell you get to claim yourself as an objective viewer.

I do try to limit my exposure to critiques until I actually see something, and as soon as I see it I'll read a bunch of critiques to confirm or contradict my beliefs.
