Trade Matt Forte

i'm not such a big fan of forte, especially his running style, but his contract makes him untradeable or even cuttable unless they want to take the cap hit.  there could be some good things in keeping forte even if he isn't the feature back.  first, he's on the decline and he knows his playing days are nearly over.  so he can be the sage in the locker room and help keep the young players focused.  he can stand up to guys like shelly and keep them distracted from their own stupidity.  and it's not like he can't still play.  he's still a very good pass receiver and could be used as an f back.

Forte and a 5th for the Giants 4rd?

Why would the Giants do that trade?  Forte sucks, is old and overpaid they just signed Draughn for nothing who is the same thing at this point

0.0 reason to trade Forte and 0.0 interest in him.  I didn't even want him last year but we stuck with him

Coincidentally I wanted to draft Jordan Howard instead of signing an old expensive POS like Forte

+1 on dumping Forte, he's horrible, and on a team where we are I'd strongly prefer almost any YOUNG RB prospect than playing a over-the-hill guy like Forte.

Great idea if you like having yet another $5 million in dead cap room next season

Forte's trade value wouldn't be much of anything. His value might be highest if a contender's RB got injured over the summer (or after the season has started) and that team doesn't want to rely upon a street FA. The job of a team's primary back is primarily running (duh), but that's not 100% of the job and it's not just about 100% either. He's got to pick up blitzes & block, he's got to be a receiver every game, and it's nice if he's more of an asset in the huddle than a 22 yr old kid whining before and after every down when he's not getting the rock.

For the Jets, it's not like they're going to be likely contenders this year with or without him. If they can get someone to eat his salary, it's a no-brainer even if we get nothing in return other than a 7th rounder conditional upon him rushing for 2000 yards this year. Still worth it...probably.

It somewhat depends on who the QB is going to be. If it's McCown, then just dump him to any team that would take him, since we'd dump him after this season anyway. If it's going to be a rookie or Hackenberg or Petty out there week 1...honestly Forte does have some of that other value in helping out a young QB in his first start(s). It's why I didn't 100% hate the pickup initially -- but when they then re-signed Powell the next day, and still ended up going penis-pointing-up for Fitzpatrick after that (rather than starting a rookie), the contract and draft pick surrendered for Forte looked incredibly foolish.

Only reason I can figure he's still here after our fire sale is if they draft Fornette. It's a solid professional to learn from and no reason to grind him down this year with 200+ carries on a sinking ship when he's already got injury concerns coming out of LSU.

This - and also why burn up a young'un?  Just scorch Forte for all he's worth and get back some of our cash.  Nothing is going on this year anyway.

his contract is difficult to trade or cut.  but forte may have some value as a stabilizing force in the locker room.  he can stand up to guys like shelly and pryor.  plus he's still a decent pass reeiver so he could line up as an f back or in pass protetion sets. i guess if they can trade him they should but that's just not likely.

Forte can stand up to Sheldon Richardson? Lol. Sheldon Richardson, who wasn't able to be kept in check with Forte (and others) last year, is suddenly going to be kept in check by an additional year older, has-been RB he know the team's going to be dumping after the season (if it takes that long). I agree with the rest, but you can't possibly believe this. Same for Pryor as well. If these guys aren't going to be kept in check from the prospects of a big money, long term contract after the season, Matt Forte's presence or absence won't matter..

There are reasons it wouldn't be tragic to keep him beyond taking handoffs, which I outlined when we first picked him up a year ago and you're restating here as well. Those types of attributes can really help a young QB, as opposed to say Ivory who was neither a good receiver nor a particularly good blocker (despite his size and strength). The thing is they already have that in the younger (and now better) Powell, who's also a more dangerous runner at this point as a bonus. He's cheaper, too, though the difference is negligible on a $170m cap.

If they can get something for Forte in trade, they should do it immediately before any potential trade partners come to their senses.

Disagree. He wasn't used as smartly as he should have been. He's one of the best receiving running backs in the NFL and we didn't throw enough to him. He's played with McCown in the past and along with Bilal is a good fit for a short passing game. Love to see a significant presence of a tight end in this offense. Just keep the D off the field take advantage of scoring opportunities etc. no reason this team can't be improved.

They ran the crap out of him for a half a year, then he got beat up.

Here's a thought.   Split the carries, for... 16 games.... between your 2 running backs.  Don't kill the old one by early November, and then watch the younger one go nuts.

Two years in a row Bilal was our best running back. You're right split carries and emphasize receptions out of the backfield. I'm also interested to see if Robbie and Devin Smith can give us a little big passing game. I'd go back to Smith's days at Ohio State and use him as a long game specialist. He was awesome in the role with the Buckeyes.

Yes you need to get out of the basement once in awhile I see at CostCo in the line at the grocery store and when I pick up the paper at the convenience store.

Come on don't tell me you don't buy the annual swimsuit issue.

Even if it's for a late round pick on draft day. Send him to a competitive team, he deserves it. Unload the contract and continue giving reps to younger players. Even if we don't draft a RB, you need to pick one up as a UDFA and start looking for some play makers at that position.

Forte obviously hacked integrity's account to post this. "Get me outta here. Not another year of this. Why me. Why".
