Washed up or not he is a very intelligent receiver. The Pats key to success is the intricate studying of film - every player needs to learn what exactly each team is going to do - it, in my paranoid mind, is not out of the question that they know all the defensive and offensive play calls of every team. The Patriots players are then taught exactly what position they need to be in based on the opposing teams play call. It makes the game easy for the Pats as long as each players has properly learned each play call and how to correctly position themselves on each play - it's not easy - it takes a player who has a brain and a great memory as well as discipline - to not react to what they are seeing but instead to what they were taught is going to happen. Evidence is in the fact that most ex-Pats are not nearly as successful as when they played for the Pats. Think about it - how many ex-Pats have gone on to be pro-bowlers for other teams? They are not nearly as good when they don't know exactly what the other team is doing on each play.
isired
You people talk about Sanu like he is Hopkins. He is a past his prime WR. He's a solid veteran receiver, good route runner, he's got a lot of flexibility. Dont bet against him throwing a TD in the next few weeks an/or in a big moment in the playoffs. But hes a perfect fit for them. The pats arent looking for julio jones or deandre hopkins. Sanu is perfect for their dink and dink system. The benefits of being a patriots fan. U sign a past his prime reciever and its a major upgrade. Unreal.
IndianaJet
If we claim him off of waivers, we inherit his contract from the Pats. It's only $2 million so we're looking at owing him just over $1.0 million for the rest of the year if we pick him off the wire next week after the trade deadline. ($2 million/17 weeks) * (9 weeks remaining in the season)
Scoop24
Josh Gordon and New York seems like a bad mix to me.
jetstream23
Sounding like Gordon will be released by the Pats in the next 1-2 weeks. He will then have to go through the Waiver process (will not be a FA like Antonio Brown was). Is the Waiver priority list still based off of last year's Draft order? Or, does it change to current year standings at some point in the season? If it's the former he'd have to get past Arizona (possible) and San Francisco (unlikely) before the Jets would have a crack at him. SF just traded for Emmanuel Sanders because they hate their WRs (Pettis, etc.). I could see them snagging Gordon for both depth as well as to get insight to an opponent they could potentially see in February.

thshadow
Clever move by the Pats, allowing Josh Gordon to be claimed by the Jets on waivers only *after* they've played us both times...
Alentador31
Why he didn't work out in NE is exactly why I thi I RA isn't quite working here. They aren't smart receivers. All the talent in the world isn't worth much if the system requires you to digest the defense and adjust your route accordingly. It's why I think Sam and our receivers don't seem to be on the same page frequently. The system Gase runs uses a lot of option routes for the receivers...just like NE. It's why NE seems to have a revolving door at WR with older athletically gifted WRs that often leave most people scratching their heads asking why it couldn't work out with the greatest QB of all time. Same reason why undervalued, undersized and yet smart receivers seem to break out with NE.

Im confused I don't remember seeing anywhere that read NE to release Josh Gordon so the NY Jets can claim or sign him.

If they cut him before the second game against him would he have magically not been too injured to play?Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using JetNation.com mobile app
Lith
Interesting. According to this article on NBCSports.com, he has to go through waivers if released. Gives us a better chance at him than if he was FA. https://www.nbcsports.com/philadelphia/eagles/should-eagles-be-interested-josh-gordon-when-hes-healthy Quote According to NFL Network, the expectation is that Gordon will be waived off Patriots IR once he’s healthy. Even though Gordon is a vested veteran, he would need to pass through waivers starting after the trade deadline next Tuesday. The Eagles could put in a claim or hope he passes through. Rolloffjet
Hell yea I put in a claim for him. He just getting back to football last year and this year was hurt. If he could be half of what he was in Cleveland. Then we have our #1 wr is set.
