Jason Taylor: Report: Jason Taylor to visit Jets Wednesday

Jason Taylor - LB - MIA - Apr. 7 - 9:41 am et The Jets have been "making a heavy pitch" for free agent Jason Taylor and he will visit the team today, according to Jeff Darlington of the Miami Herald.

Darlington says the Jets have been going after Taylor for several weeks, but the veteran is just finally accepting it as a possibility now. Taylor is the best pass rusher left on the open market even though he'll be 36 next season he would improve an already nasty Jets' 3-4 defense. The Jets only got 10 combined sacks from their outside linebackers last season. Apr. 7 - 9:41 am et

This is all their talking about on sports radio down here in South FLA...it's disgusting. Apparantly the visit will include trip to the new stadium with HC Rex Ryan and when they enter the stadium there will be JT highlights from his career playing on the jumbotron.

This development might be difficult to digest, so I'll give you a slice now and come back with more analysis in a bit.

Jason Taylor, a proud Miami Dolphins defender for a dozen years and a sworn enemy of everything Fireman Ed chants for, is visiting with the New York Jets on Wednesday.

And it doesn't sound like the Jets will be willing to take "no, thanks" for an answer. They will try to buckle Taylor's knees with an aggressive presentation.

ESPN's John Clayton reports the Jets will go after the NFL's active sacks leader as though he were a blue-chip college recruit, giving him a tour of their sparking new stadium and playing highlights of his career on video scoreboards that are said to be mesmerizing.

Taylor's plan was to take his time this offseason and sign with a team closer to the start of training camp. Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum and head coach Rex Ryan will push him to sign with them immediately.

When he still was an unrestricted free agent a year ago, Taylor professed his disdain for the Jets.

"There are a few teams that are not on the list," Taylor said of the teams he would consider. "We can all figure out which ones those are, but I have no top three."

Asked specifically about the Jets, he gritted his teeth.

"It'd be very, very, very difficult. Very difficult," Taylor said with a grin. "But at the end of the day, if you can't find a job anywhere else and the Jets call, I guess you've got to retire or go play.

"The Jets are the Jets. I've had a lot of history saying bad things about Jets fans. The fireman hat guy [Fireman Ed], and all of the people in New York that are Jets fans are not the ones that are working on Wall Street. I've said all of those things. So I've got to leave it at that."

Taylor doesn't seem to be at a stage in his career where he would have to choose the Jets or retire. Miami Herald columnist Armando Salguero reported Wednesday the Dolphins recently reached out to Taylor and agent Gary Wichard.

Taylor is coming off a season in which he registered seven sacks.

The Jets' starting outside linebackers, Calvin Pace and Bryan Thomas, combined for 10

Nice JT highlights on your jumbotron....i love it.

Agent: Jason Taylor to visit New York Wednesday

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on April 7, 2010 10:08 AM ET

Jason Taylor could leave the Dolphins for another AFC East team, but not the one most people expected.

Speaking on the Joe Rose Show in Miami, agent Gary Wichard said Taylor will visit the Jets Wednesday. (Thanks for Jeff Darlington for hearing it first.)

Taylor has made it clear he wants to return to the Dolphins this offseason, but it's uncertain if the interest was mutual. A report Tuesday said Taylor would be content waiting until after the draft to sign.

This could just be a negotiating ploy intended to get the Dolphins to act. Taylor said almost exactly one year ago today he had no interest in playing for the Jets. Darlington writes the Jets have made a "heavy pitch" for weeks just to get Taylor to consider them as a real possibility.

The Jets are also limited in what they can pay Taylor based on the "Final 4 rules," as explained by Wichard, who says Taylor is just doing his "due dilegence." They could only pay Taylor the first-year salary of kicker Jay Feely, the Jets' first unrestricted free agent to sign elsewhere. (With Arizona.)

Feely is reportedly scheduled to earn $1.5 million in 2010 pay, so that's all the Jets could theoretically offer Taylor $1.5 million. And based on the "30 percent rule," the Jets could only raise his salary to $1.8 million in 2011.

Then again, Taylor only made $1.5 million last season and he's no longer in high demand. He could probably work out things with Jets fans.

This is hilarious.

Jets fans are pissed about the prospect of rooting for Taylor and Phin fans are pissed about the prospect of seeing Taylor in puke green. Seems like a great plot that can only be solved by a "Maury Povich Paternity test" to see who he belongs too.

"Jason Taylor, you ARE a Dolphin" and then the audience erupts with Rex running back stage crying his eyes out.

Jason Taylor visits Jets

By Rich Cimini

Dolphins pass rusher Jason Taylor, one of the most despised opponents in Jets history, is meeting today with Jets officials to discuss the possibility of playing for them this season.

Taylor, an unrestricted free agent, is due to arrive today for a visit, multiple sources confirmed. His visit will include a helicopter ride to the new Meadowlands Stadium, where he will receive a tour. The Jets are rolling out the red carpet because Rex Ryan desperately wants to improve his pass rush and he has targeted Taylor since Day 1 of free agency.

By rule, the Jets had to wait until they lost a UFA before they could sign one, and that occurred last week when they lost PK Jay Feely to the Cards. The Jets can offer Taylor only what Feely is receiving in first-year compensation, and that is believed to be about $1.25 million.

Taylor, the former "Dancing With the Stars" contestant,is one of the most prolific pass rushers of the decade, but he turns 36 in September. Nevertheless, the Jets want him badly. It's believed they may release or try to trade OLB Bryan Thomas, 31, if they land Taylor.

For years, Taylor has been a marked man in New York because he has repeatedly insulted Jets fans, sometimes questioning their intelligence.

We told you GM Mike Tannenbaum had something up his sleeve this week. This is it.

>>I wonder what they could get for Thomas. I thought he had a good season last year.

LOL!!! so let me get this straight...

it is ok to not want a player because he said mean stuff about the JETs...

but when it comes to keeping a totally loyal player ( LEON) you guys say "it is all about business"

you cant have it both ways..

it is reason you dont want taylor is because his playing days are over.. well that is different.. but the "he didnt like us when he was a dolphin" reason is bullsh!t UNLESS you are a loyalty fan..

if it is all about the color of the uniform.. then the only important thing is winning, and if Jason strengthens our team and gets us closer there that that is what counts.

Klecko, do you think you would eventually get over the inital shock and root for JT if he does indeed sign with the Jets? Or would you boo him when being introduced at the new stadium. This is very sad if he does sign with the Jets. I can't wait to see the first idiot in a Taylor Jets jersery (Believe there will be one guy somewhere with one) Zach Thomas should bitch slap JT for this b.s. ZT would never sellout to an AFC EAST team.

Here's what I'm hoping happens:

The Jets sign Taylor which fills the immediate need for a pass rusher, freeing the Jets to draft a WR (please G-d let it be Golden Tate [-o<) Upon seeing the Jets sign Taylor, Bill Belichick figures the Jets no longer have a need for a pass rusher so he does what he's been wanting to do since December and cuts Adalius Thomas. The Jets then sign Thomas, insisting that they will be keeping all four of their OLBs. The Jets then cut Taylor on the eve of the season, giving him the ultimate kick in the nuts as no one else seems to have any interest in Xerxes.

Intresting scenario  I'm one of those fans where i would never root for the guy again even when its all said and done and he's retiring a fin, **** that. Playing for the Redskins is one thing, playing for the Jets unf**king acceptable

I hope the Jets prove Jason Taylor that he was wrong all of those year. JT strikes me as a pretty superficial kind of guy, so most likely he'll be wowed by the brand new Jets complex in Florham Park, as well as the new stadium.

They should do everything in their power to get him excited to play for us.

Then, at the negotiating table, instead of a contract, it will be a detailed printout of every one of his negative quotes he was made over the years directed against the New York Jets, their organization, their management, their players, and their fans.

And then they should promptly have his faggoty ass escorted out of the building.
