Smashmouth
clearly that IDIOT Harbaugh doesn't want him anymore why not trade for him? maybe offer them Sanchez as a backup lol while I think the Harbaugh move was total bullsh*t and a real kick in the teeth to Alex Smith there is no way Smith would do well with the Jets IMO. If we had talent, sure why not, but we don't. At this stage if we dont make drastic changes on offense we will fail no matter who is behind center. It's not like Smith has been 70% for his career. It's taken him 6 years to figure out how to play with the Big Boys. BD

Mikeg85
2012 Alex Smith = 2009 Mark Sanchez and vice-versa. Maybe smith is slightly better than Sanchez, but not by much if he is. It's amazing how good a QB can look when he is surrounded by massive talent everywhere he turns. Sanchez looks just as good if he's on the niners, and Smith looks just as bad if he's on the Jets this year.
unbanmadmike1
Yeah lets give up lots of a picks for a guy with no arm who is nothing but a system QB/game manager who can't make plays on his own. He's 3rd best in the NFL It's obvious he was never Harbaugh's guy, and Harbaugh was gonna put in Colin regardless of how well Smith played. This was an ego move by Harbaugh. He was a QB Coach in the NFL. He coached Andrew Luck at college. He has now coached Alex for almost 30 games. He knows what Alex can and cannot do. While he does have a a nice QB Rating, he has been a roller coaster. He has a 43. A couple in the 70s another in the 80s. This mixed with his several over 100. Harbaugh would probably taken a 90 rating from Kaepernick if he did not have the wild swings.

He was good last year, and pretty much great this year. Harbaugh was just looking for an out to make a switch, and apparently being the 3rd top rated QB in the NFL didn't matter. BD If those numbers were as straight-forward as you believe, then he would not be getting pushed out the door in favor of a rookie, period. I'm not saying Alex Smith hasn't improved, he has. But take a look at what he is asked to do as a passer to obtain those numbers. When you're surrounded with endless amounts of talent and 95% of your passes are either check downs, screens, 5 yard hitches and in routes then it's not real hard to statistically look like a very good QB. Again, it's very similar to Sanchez. Sanchez just doesn't have the supporting cast anymore to enable a "game manager" QB to be successful.

Skeet Ulrich
Harbaugh made the switch because Smith's not going to get it done vs good defenses.
