could get interesting

bleh. Rice is gone...Goodell isnt going to get fired. Maybe resigns after the season, but the back and forth now about the tapes...getting kind of silly.

silly is what the media does best

This is called plausible deniability.

In all these press conferences and interviews all the head honchos of the NFL and Ravens are coming out and saying that THEY saw the video for the first time.

Question that should be asked is was it the first time this video was seen by anyone in the NFL or the Ravens organization. They could have had security people see the video and based on feedback come to a convenient decision to not see it as they went about the cover up.

For realz. I flick on ESPN when I get home today, obviously the PTI guys talking about the deplorable Rice situation...but then they manage to segue to an entire bit wishing JR Smith a happy birthday. The same JR Smith who killed his best friend treating a suburban neighborhood like the Daytona 500.

Like any good politician, Goodell can just issue a lame, ambiguous statement depicting semi-remorse, then wait for two news cycles to pass when no one will remember what happened. There are two oft-victimized groups that no one really cares about enough to carry a torch for with any real vigor: women and the elderly. If the media-at-large wanted to give this thing legs, they'd find a race angle to play. Ray Rice is a suckbag and he'll lose millions, but  that'll be the legacy of this incident.

This is months old I believe.

I think Rice's reputation amongst the league office prior to this incident is why he only got two games. Rice did a lot in Westchester County, Goodell lives in Westchester...wouldnt doubt they had a relationship to begin with.

I'd guess if they're not lying about actually watching the tape...they could have watched it if they had wanted to...but their meeting with Rice and his wife was sufficient enough for them not to pursue it any further. And of course they didn't know TMZ would drop bombs piecemeal....hence the apology on the light sentence last week.

Where is the race angle in this? Not sure where you are going with that.

He won't hand in his resignation. The amount of free money he gets for that "job", he'd be a fool.

He'd be asked to resign. But Bob Kraft and Jerry Jones wont be holding a press conference any time soon announcing they've "fired" Roger Goodell....as much as we'd probably all like to see that happen.

Dont forget the whole month of October the entire league will be festooned in pink for breast cancer awareness, and even that wont be enough to blow this over.

Damage control and job preservation, trying to get over the hump until something else is the next big story. Goodell or someone in their security saw this tape a long time ago.

Rice's good guy image prior to this incident seems to be somewhat of a cause to this situation to totally spin out of control. Doubtful this cover up goes down if Rice had a reputation of being a bad guy/criminal. Goodell screwed up badly not laying down the hammer the second the first video was released.

Does anyone really care about this? I hear Mike Lupica screaming on the radio for transparency as if this is the government. It's a sports league for crying out loud, sports media members need to get over themselves and stop acting like they're looking for the Watergate tapes. The NFL is going to do what's best for the NFL and media personalities will race to see who can win the marathon of outrage. The shaming of Ray Rice in the social media stockade will continue until people stop caring which should happen around this Sunday, then this story will DISAPPEAR.

Might sound harsh, but it's annoying the heck out of me. The actual victim here is being trampled by people who are climbing over one another to have their outrage heard about what happened to the victim while the victim is pleading for them to stop this.
