League wide waivers cuts and transactions

Bailey Zappe would make a nice #3 on the PS. He might get claimed off waivers for someone's 53, though.

Isn't his arm strength about the same as Mac Jones?  If so, no thanks!  With a name like Bailey Zappe, he sounds more like a librarian or bookkeeper than football player.

He's a limited player, no doubt. But he has starting experience, and actually looked decent as a rookie on a very bad Pats* team before falling off last year.  As a #3, you could do worse - like Andrew Peasley, for example.

The Jets are almost certainly not carrying a 3rd QB on the 53 man roster. They’ll carry their #3 on the practice squad. Hartmann and Pratt will likely prefer to stick with the teams that drafted them, and sign to their practice squads, too.

If you get to your third QB, you’re ****ed, anyway, but I think Martinez with his legs and semi-pro experience makes for a fine emergency QB. Jets have Travis tucked away for development.

Jaguars waived/released TE Josiah Deguara, TE Shawn Bowman, CB Christian Braswell, RB Gary Brightwell, WR Joshua Cephus, DE D.J. Coleman, WR Elijah Cooks, CB Erick Hallett, RB Jalen Jackson, OL Steven Jones, QB E.J. Perry, S Josh Proctor, WR Austin Trammell, OL Darryl Williams, TE Patrick Murtagh, S Adrian Amos, S Terrell Edmunds, CB Tre Flowers, DE Joe Gaziano, OL Blake Hance, LB Tanner Muse, CB Amani Oruwariye, OL Tyler Shatley and QB C.J. Beathard.

H-back Deguara was a late free agent signing who couldn’t crack the 53-man roster. Beathard had no shot at a backup job locked up upon the acquisition of Mac Jones. Despite being a 2020 third-rounder, Deguara is already 27 years old.

The Pack cut both Pratt and last year's draftee Sean Clifford, who were in a battle for the backup job this year.

Got to figure one will re-sign to their PS and the other one will remain available. Would either of those guys be preferable to Martinez for our PS QB? Who knows...

I keep hearing the argument "if you get to your 3rd QB, season's over anyway" for not giving a sh-t about your 3rd / emergency QB.

Obviously, if both are out for the year, you're hosed.

But what if Rodgers and Tyrod are both unavailable for 1 or 2 games?

Wouldn't you want to improve your chances of actually winning that game?

Say what you will about MFW, but I'd be willing to wager he gives this team a better chance to win than Andrew Peasley 🫠😂

It's the GM's job to be prepared for any scenario.

Tyrod Taylor has a consistently poor track record when it comes to staying on the field.

I would have signed Jameis Winston, whom the Browns secured essentially for 1y 4M.

He's better than Tyrod, younger than Tyrod, and unlike Tyrod, has demonstrated an ability to play 2 or more consecutive games in a season without getting knocked out.

Jaguars released QB C.J. Beathard with an injury settlement.

The Jags’ incumbent backup sealed his Mac Jones fate when he suffered a groin injury in Jax’s second preseason contest. Despite the contest supposedly being “close,” Jones was never going to lose out to 30-year-old Beathard. His long experience will get him looks on the workout circuit.

Sam Hartmann was cut by the Commanders and Michael Pratt was cut by the Packers.  I think there were posters here that wanted Hartmann and some wanted Pratt.  Any interest in the Jets signing one of them as the #3 QB?

Possibly Pratt. I think Hartmann is awful.

Deguara was a 3rd rounder in GB when Hackett and Rodgers were there.  Looked to be headed in the right direction, but has not looked good since Hackett left.  Might be as good a bet as Firkser or a better practice squad fit at TE/FB/Hback than Kuntz.   Of course if they were very interested in him, they could have had him for 1 year/$1.2M in March when he signed this cutable deal with the Jags.

You can argue that he’s more productive, but that production comes at the cost of turnovers. Dude throws picks at twice the rate Taylor does, and has nearly twice as many fumbles.

Panthers waived/released G Ike Boettger, RB Mike Boone, S Rudy Ford, TE Jacob Hollister, TE Jesper Horsted, TE Jordan Matthews, DT Ulumoo Ale, G Jack Anderson, LB Aaron Beasley, CB Dicaprio Bootle, G Mason Brooks, S Alex Cook, OT Jeremiah Crawford, CB Willie Drew, OLB Kenny Dyson, TE Feleipe Franks, OT Ricky Lee, WR Terrace Marshall Jr., OLB Derrick McLendon, CB Quandre Mosely, DT Walter Palmore, WR Sam Pinckney, QB Jack Plummer, RB Jaden Shirden, DT TJ Smith, WR Mike Strachan, OLB Luiji Vilain, CB Chris Wilcox, and LB Chandler Wooten.

Boone was a one-time deep-league fantasy darling with the Minnesota Vikings and was competing with Raheem Blackshear for the third spot in the running back room with Johnathon Brooks recovering from his knee injury. Instead, Boone will try to find a practice squad spot with another team. Other veterans like Ike Botther and Jacob Hollister are likely to find new teams within the next few days.

Terrance Marshall Jr.? What happened with him? I remember really wanting the Jets to take him in the draft. He's got to be better than the bottom of our WR depth chart, no?

49ers released WR Robbie Chosen.

Chosen wasn’t expected to be long for the 49ers’ roster after signing with the team a few weeks into camp. The injury to Ricky Pearsall played a role in the team signing Chosen, while Pearsall’s return likely led to his release. Chosen caught four passes for 126 yards and a touchdown last season and could end up on the 49ers’ practice squad if another suitor doesn’t come calling.

Maybe he’s not. I remember really wanting the Jets to draft Denzel Mims.

No real explanation the way they seemed to be talking him up;

Panthers to waive WR Terrace Marshall Jr.

The breakout never came for the Carolina Panthers and wideout Terrace Marshall Jr.

As first reported by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler this afternoon, the team is set to waive the fourth-year receiver amidst Tuesday’s roster cuts.

Carolina nabbed Marshall Jr. with the 59th overall pick of the 2021 NFL draft. The talented 6-foot-2, 200-pound Louisiana State University product, however, failed to reach his potential during his three seasons with the Panthers—amassing just 64 receptions for 767 yards and one touchdown over 36 games.

Marshall Jr. seemed to be getting closer to that potential this offseason, standing out as one of the team’s top performers of the summer.

“Fantastic. Consistent,” Canales said of Marshall Jr.’s performance last week. “Every day there’s a big play Terrace Marshall is a part of. Screaming across the field, a vertical outside—just different ways that he’s really shown us the ability, and really the growth that he’s had over the last couple of years.”

That, however, was not enough for Canales and company.

apparently they tried to trade him but failed. He's a big WR who has produced in a potent offense in college. Put up 17.5 yards per reception in 2022. I'd like to see what he could do with Aaron Rodgers at QB.

Browns waived/released WR Jaelon Darden, DT Jowon Briggs, WR Ahmarean Brown, S Christopher Edmonds, DT Siaki Ika, DT Sam Kamara, TE Zaire Mitchell-Paden, LB Winston Reid, OT Lorenzo Thompson, TE Treyton Welch, WR Michael Woods, CB Tony Brown, RB D’Onta Foreman, CB Justin Hardee, OT Germain Ifedi and WR James Proche.
It’s a quiet list, with Foreman’s release being purely procedural.

Wait a minute - the Browns released Justin Hardee??

What gives?

Eagles waived/released WR Parris Campbell, LB Oren Burks, OL Nick Gates, QB Will Grier, G/C Matt Hennessy, CB Parry Nickerson, OLB Julian Okwara, WR John Ross, G/T Max Scharping, OL Brett Toth, G/T Gottlieb Ayedze, OT Anim Dankwah, RB Tyrion Davis-Price, TE Kevin Foelsch, DT Gabe Hall, WR Jacob Harris, WR Griffin Hebert, DE Tarron Jackson, TE E.J. Jenkins, CB Josh Jobe, OLB Terrell Lewis, C Dylan McMahon, CB Zech McPhearson, RB Kendall Milton, DT P.J. Mustipher, WR Joseph Ngata, RB Lew Nichols, G/C Jason Poe, TE Armani Rogers, S Andre Sam, LB Brandon Smith, CB Shon Stephens, S Caden Sterns, OT Laekin Vakalahi and WR Austin Watkins.

Campbell was in the 53-man roster mix. Then he got injured early in camp and barely practiced. Sadly, same as it ever was. The 27-year-old is close to falling out of the league.
