Jet's Want Braylon back per Manish...

Rex Ryan left little doubt he wasn’t pleased with the Jets’ inability to stretch the field during their lost season.

He may be reuniting with a familiar face to help remedy that situation.

The Daily News has learned that the Jets are interested in bringing back free agent wide receiver Braylon Edwards, who was an integral piece in Gang Green’s success in 2009 and 2010.

Edwards signed a one-year, incentive -rich deal with the San Francisco 49ers as a free agent before the 2011 season, but was waived before Week 17 and is free to sign with anyone.

The Jets are looking for a replacement for Plaxico Burress, who won’t be re-signed when free agency begins on March 13 and said Tuesday that he would love to play for the Eagles.

Edwards, 29, battled knee and shoulder injuries before San Francisco cut him loose. The Jets would like to bring Edwards back if he’s healthy and the price is right, according to a source. It’s uncertain whether Edwards would like to play for the Jets again.

Edwards, who led the Jets with 904 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in 2010, was repeatedly praised by Ryan during his time with Gang Green for his ability to stretch the field and his blocking prowess.

“He had two outstanding seasons for us,” Ryan said last month. “He was an outstanding blocker.”

The Jets lacked a viable deep threat during their disappointing 8-8 season that saw them miss the playoffs. Mark Sanchez completed a league-low two passes of 40-plus yards in 2011. Edwards ranked sixth in the league with five receptions of 40-plus yards with the Jets in 2010.

Edwards’ blocking skills and deep threat ability appear to be ideal fits for the Jets’ revamped offense under new coordinator Tony Sparano, who is expected to return the team to its ground-and-pound roots.

Edwards did have off-the-field issues with the Jets, most notably a DWI arrest in September of 2010.

A year ago, the Jets gave Santonio Holmes a big payday (five-year, $45 million deal) rather than Edwards, who had 15 catches for 181 yards in nine games with the 49ers.

The mercurial Burress, who had 45 catches for 612 yards and eight touchdowns in his first season back in the league after more than two years away from football, told a Philadelphia radio station on Tuesday that he’d like to play for the Eagles in 2012.

“Nothing else would make me happier,” Burress told 97.5 FM in Philadelphia. “I really believe (Michael Vick) can bring a championship to Philadelphia and I would love to be a part of it.”

Although Burress, 34, said that the Jets “pretty much just left the door open for me to make a decision to come back,” he won’t be playing for Gang Green in 2012.

“Obviously as a team we didn’t accomplish our goal,” Burress said of his one season with the Jets. “I just wanted to get out and get my legs back under me and go out and be productive. I’m thinking coming into this year, I’ll be a lot stronger and get back to the things I know I can do and go to a place where I can let my skills show.”

And. Here. We. Go.......

I say do it if he's healthy and willing to play for the right price.

You left out the part where he has to sign for an incentive laden contract with minimal risk to the Jets with a reasonable top dollar if he meets all incentives.

details, details...but your right. By the way, I was listening to Kay on 1050 last night and Tanny was making it sound like he will be making a play for Peyton.

I was hoping for this for the longest.... Braylon, Mark and Santonio had real good chemistry before.. i think it could happen again. I think Rex thought back to when he had great "team chemistry"... and that's what led him back to Braylon, he was loved in NY and was never a problem, no matter what crap people said about his off the field issues, that group had great chemistry back then when Braylon was here.

At this point, they'll take any WR willing to play with Sanchez. But, I'm on the Michael Floyd boat these days. Draft him and forget about the WR position of the next 4-5 years.

I sure hope getting rid of Schitty solves the QB problem so u and all your cronies will just STFU!

My cronies? lol. That's good. I like it.

And, I sure hope so too...but I highly doubt it. I mean, Tony Sparano is the OC for goodness sake...like he's some QB savior or something. lol

Question, if you a WR, why in the world would you want to play for the Jets and have Mark Sanchez throwing you the ball?

Because you can play only when you feel like it and Mike Tannenbaum will still give you $50 mil in cash?

Yeah we need a new towel waver on the bench

I have always said let's see what we have in Sanchez. And now with Shotty gone that will be crystal clear!...unless Manning is hear. And if that is the case I would like to have Sanchez as well and then he can be the one waving the towel on the bench watching Peyton throw TD after TD.

Realistically, I would love to have Sanchez come into his own and grow as a true home grow QB to lead us. I just don't know dude.

Post image for Jets Interested In Bringing Back Edwards

Well it looks like as soon as the divorce with Plaxico is finalized and he signs with the Eagles, the Jets are looking to hook back up with ex-49er wide receiver Braylon Edwards who was the Jets deep threat in 2009 and 2010. He was cut by the 49ers in 2011 due to injury and not so great production.

Rex certainly wouldn’t mind bringing back Edwards the wide receiver because quote:

“He was an outstanding blocker.”

Free agency starts March 13th at 4 PM EST or simply 2 weeks from today.

I'm totally on board as your cronie. I'll pay for T & E whatnot.

So what we have here is, JETS let go one WR who was successful with the JETS for 1 plus seasons and replaced him with another WR who had not played in a few seasons, and now the JETS are going to let go that WR to replace him with the original WR they let go last season.

Which begs the question. Why was that WR let go in the first place ?

Money. He wanted a big payday. Now Braylon sees he is worth less than a good steak, so he can be brought back for pennies on the dollar.
