Which Jets suck out loud? Which Jets are actually worth keeping?

The short way around is to decide who on this team can actually play (talking about non-rookies)

David Harris can play. he's not worth $13M in cap space next season, but he can play, and when the Jets jettison Bart Scott, who is done and will be replaced by DeMario Davis, they'll need one professional backer to run the defense with. If DeMario is sharp enough to take over the mental leadership of the defense from Harris, then you can bail on him. He's adequate. Nothing more.

The O-Line is pretty decent. Sanchez could have baked a cake back there yesterday. But he doesn't have anyone to throw to, and in the event someone does get open, he missed them anyway. Slauson and Austin are the weakest links, but they are passable. Drafting a couple of OL every year is always a good investment.

Cromartie is a very good corner, probably Top 10 in the league. Sadly, he can be much better. Is very gifted physically, and relies on his physical skills too much. has generally poor technique. has the most technically-sound CB in history across from him, and refuses to learn anything from him. Cost about $8M a year. Can also do damage in the punt return game, so he adds value.

Nick "What The" Folk is quietly shutting up the critics. hasn't missed this year, and is building a nice resume of game-winning kicks. The Jets shouldn't have bailed on Jay Feely, who is also winning games in Arizona, but they lucked out here....

LeRon Landry has a lot of talent. He's an injury waiting to happen, probably because he's a musclehead. But receivers wet themselves when they go over the middle against the Jets. And his coverage skills are decent. And he actually likes tackling, a rarity for the Jets these days.

Bilal Powell at least looks good enough to be a backup. The Jets don't have a #1 RB on the roster. To be who they want to be under Ryan, they need an Adrian Peterson-type back, and there are about 10 of them on Planet Earth.....

That's my list of people worth keeping around in the short term. Everybody else, Tebow included, can stay, go, I don't give a......

We don't have as many holes as one would think. The constant wanting of a pass rush is of course still there. We need linebackers that aren't slightly smaller defensive linemen. And we need a new QB, RB, and receivers. Damn.. that is a lot huh.

And yeah, Cro and Landry are awesome. Cro lives in Revis shadow. Anywhere else, he is a stud. I hope we find a way to bring Laron back.

Harris isn't part of the problem. He shouldn't be asked to cover.

Slow and has missed more tackles in 4 games than I've ever witnessed in my life.

He stinks, something awful and is a huge part of the problem. When you're the LB'er on a defense who supposed to be plugging holes in the run game and you're part of the worst run defense in the league...you suck and should be escorted off the field. Scott is out playing him.

If Woody reads this board you should be having sex with an intern on Tanny's desk by no later then next Monday. You + Jets= multiple Superbowls.

Definitely. Just look at my track record with the draft. Predicted the terribleness of Gholston, Sanchez and Wilson. Who were my guys? Mo Wilk and Coples.

I know the world is down on Maybin but he is one trick pony that needs us our defense to be in 3rd and long defensive situations. But the way we have been giving up the run most opponents have rarely been in 3rd and long situations. And when they are in 3rd and five and 3rd and six situations they can just run the ball and get to the first down marker or worse score.

This team has an accountability problem. You can sulk on the sideline with the season on the line and still expect to come back the next season. If we cut Holmes that should take care of that. Then you take care of dead wood like Harris and Pace and replace them and this is a decent team again.

Sanchez situation is different. He is still young and has the talent. Has been a noble citizen. He does not have the mentality as yet of leading an offense. Maybe he figures it out as the season progresses. But if there are not enough green shoots in his play by end of the season then he should be canned as well.

Lets calm down. Rex said Mo would be "dominant", and I never hear his name. And Coples has trouble getting on the field, while Chandler Jones is tearing up in NE......

This defense needs to get faster at all levels and anyone who can't play that style needs to go. I would keep Harris as a 2 down linebacker, but the rest of them can probably leave. Both safeties have to go, too.

Harris as a 2 down backer??? For the pay he is making?? No way.

I like this list. You got rid of all our starting LBs so I like it. I want a 4-3 defense from here on out, but I guess we need to wait til next year. I think Coples is talented---not sure about Wilk--this is year 2for him and I see no improvement. Our biggest prob now is not the injuries. It is not being able to stop the run with a 3-4. Oh, and drafting Sanchez of course. Make a rotten QB pick and you set your team back half a decade.

Keep

Mangold, Hill, Kerley, Coples, Wilkerson, Ellis, Landry, Davis

Maybe

D'brick, Powell, Howard, Pouha

Wouldn't mind if they got rid of everybody else.

We need to be on a 5 year plan, total rebuilding phase. This isn't a quick fix, and we're not a few players away from a championship.

Soured on Holmes?

Pretty much. The guy is by far the best thing we've got on offense, but that sh*t was one of the biggest pussy moves I've ever seen.

I'm not giving up on Mo. I've seen good penetration from the DL plenty plays this year with the LB'ers just not able to make a play because they are slow and cant tackle. LB'ers suck, bad. Slowest pieces of garbage I've seen in a long time and they're not the type of players who can be on the field as long as it takes each game with Sanchez at the helm. Quite honestly, I like the rest of the defense. But I wouldnt mind one bit if the Jets decided to go mental in the 2013 draft for LB'ers and DE's. The offense is doomed until they rid themselves of Sanchez. Who cares who the get at this point. Wont matter.

I have not given up on Wilk. I just expected him to be better in his second season. He does not appear to be a pass rushing type end. I thought he would be like Sean Ellis---strong on the run with some flashes as a rusher. And I think Coples is going to kick ass, if they give him more plays. Hell they are not stopping the rush now. I like the safeties too, but isn't Bell about 80? And Landry's Achilles is suspect. I think Hill is going to be good. He is so fast he simpy has to catch at least a few every game. If he does not it is on Sparano and Sanchez---unless he drops them, of course. I still would prefer a 4-3. I like traditional pass rush. Our OL is okay. Wish Mangold would stop holding. I really think our rushing game blows because of our backs, and because no one fears Sanchez. Question: I kind of flipped back and forth between Ryder Cup and Jet Disgrace Sunday---did Ellis get much time at tackle on D? He had such a better pre season this year I thought he was ready to shine.

5 year rebuild? Rebuilds in the NFL take like 2-3 years now. Dump some salary, have one or two good drafts and some smart free agent signings. It's not some impossible undertaking. Is the GM capable of taking these steps and being successful? Probably not, if we're using recent history as an indicator.

The one thing I noticed most on Sunday was the different groupings they used. Rex was looking for anything to click and the defense was on the field so damn much, he was rotating DLine in and out like crazy. Ellis played both T and DE. He had everyone moving around. Pace saw numerous snaps lined up as DE. None of it worked and when it did, our sh*tty LB'ers couldnt make a play. Its like Space Jam out there. They cant stop sh*t. And I've never seen a team in the back field with their hands on a RB more than the Jets have in the first 4 games this season. Which tells me the DL isnt playing terrible, our LB'ers just really suck.

I agree. The runners get bottled up and the linebackers just whiff. Then it gets bounced outside for 7 yards.

This may drop after Sunday's shibacle, but through three weeks, Wilkerson, Coples, and DeVito were all top-7 in PFF's Run Stop Percentage among 3-4 ends. The problem isn't the DL, it's the linebackers.

They've really been bad. Really, really bad. Harris fell off a cliff last year and it's looking more and more like that's 100% on Scott's decline. Thomas looks so old to boot, it's hard to grasp how this franchise thought trotting him back out there would work. Too much of a reliance on Maybin or they simply overestimated his recovery. Either way it's unacceptable how bad they've been.
