Ed Reed has made millions of dollars in his NFL career, but he’s now $50,000 poorer.

Reed was the victim of a robbery in which a bag containing $50,000 cash was stolen out of his car, according to Local 2 in Houston.

Police say someone smashed a window in Reed’s car and took the bag of cash from the front seat. Reed had just taken the money out of a bank, and police believe someone who saw him make the withdrawal followed him.

After playing his first 11 seasons with the Ravens, Reed spent part of the 2013 season in Houston before being released and finishing the season with the Jets.

It's America, he's welcome to walk around with as much cash as he wants IMO.

But realistically why would you need 50,000 in straight up cash if you weren't trying to stay off the grid (which he isn't) or trying to do something criminal?

Maybe he was building his own theme park, with blackjack and hookers.

50k cash.   ..and he reports it to the cops?

My guesses are that the money is for:

-200 years of car washes to be paid in advance

-25,000 sodas and popcorn at a high school basketball game because they don't take cards.

-He expects 5,000 boy scouts and girl scouts to show up selling cookies and caramel corn.

Ed Reed has $50K stolen from car
Updated: February 13, 2014, 11:59 AM ET
By Rich Cimini | ESPN.com

Free-agent safety Ed Reed reported $50,000 in cash stolen from his car Wednesday while visiting banks in Houston, the Houston Police Department confirmed Thursday morning.

Reed, who played last season for the Houston Texansand New York Jets, told police he withdrew $50,000 from one bank and drove to another bank, presumably to make another transaction.

The future Hall of Famer left the money on the passenger seat of his gray 2006 Audi, registered in Florida. When he returned to the car, the passenger window was smashed and the money was gone, according to the police report.

The incident occurred around 3 p.m. The police report said the cash was in a "bag," although it was described as an "envelope" in another report, a police spokesperson said.

Police believe Reed was followed from one bank to the next. The report didn't state why he was carrying such a large amount of cash. The investigation is ongoing.

Reed, 35, finished last season with the Jets. He signed a one-year contract in November after being released by the Texans, who gave up on the nine-time Pro Bowl after only seven games. He had signed a three-year, $15 million deal with Houston.

He got off to a slow start with the Jets but ended up with three interceptions in seven games, tied for the team lead. Reed, who will be an unrestricted free agent, said at the end of the season that he'd like to continue his career.

The Jets had no comment on the situation. The incident was first reported by KPRC-TV in Houston.

It comes down to how do you deal with life situations- you should never leave a car door open or engine running or money alone in a car and walk away

He left his Lamborghini running, and the doors unlocked with 50K in the front seat. AHHH, the educational system in Florida just got another boost from one of its brilliant alumni's.

Does it really matter why he wanted $50k in cash? It's his money, it's none of your business what he does with it.

This is true.  There is no law prohibiting a person from walking around with $50,000  cash.  But I'd bet the cops are very interested in why he with drew $50,000 from one bank, and presumably went to a second bank to withdraw more money.

There's also the issue of whoever stole it, did they know in advance he was going to have the money, and then make another stop for more.

Very interesting

Not the cop's business either.

What's funny about it? Carrying around large amounts of money is not a crime. If I'm carrying around $50k and a cop sees it and questions me, I'll kindly tell him to f*ck off.

Which would absolutely be your constitutional right.  if you do that you will suddenly become "a person of interest"
