So tired of hearing how BB is brilliant finding a repacement for Revis. Butler holds on almost every play. He got burned a few times today.

Man! do I love our WR's!!

So glad Revis came back after realizing how much he hated playing for BB.

He came back after realizing that the Jets were going to pay him a lot more money than the Patriots.

yeah.. he just won a super bowl with them if they were going to pay him more, why wouldn't he of stayed? But that's all said and done now and he is still my favorite sport player to ever play and he's a Jet that's all that counts.

I've no idea why he was even selected for the Pro Bowl. Guess bcs of the one play he made at the Super Bowl. For years we've been hearing how overrated Revis is from pats fans. Butler is the perfect example of an overrated player. Didn't like him much the whole season and today he got beat multiple times!

With both the Pat's safeties out Bulter didn't have the over the top help he normally gets.

Well, he did.

Butler is not Revis by any stretch, but for a guy that was an undrafted  FA.  He is doing a pretty good job.  Especially when you look at some of the drafted busts they have run through corner over the last 10 years.

While I would rather have Revis, I am also glad he moved on.  Chandler Jone is all but priced himself out of Foxboro.  Collins and Hightower are going to be difficult to retain.  Probably impossible if Revis was still there.

you are so right about Butler holding all the time.  Guy is so overrated by the media.

Please Bill make Malcolm Butler your #1 CB next few years.

Amazing how finding the GOAT in the 6th and him having a billionaire wife so he can play for backup money makes a team look like a genius on all their other personnel decisions.

so what?  Wayne Chrebet was undrafted does he deserve to be mentioned on the same level as Terrell Owens, Marvin Harrison and Jerry Rice?

The media has been BLOWING Butler acting like he's all-pro since the lucky play in the super bowl.

Exactly.  The Pats are all about value.  They set a value on a position and don't overpay for it.  It is the main reason for their success.   They have let a number of players walk instead of ruining their salary cap ( Richard Seymour, Ty Law, Logan Mankins,  Lawyer Malloy).  Even with Brady they currently have one of the youngest rosters in the NFL.  Jets have one of the oldest and will have soon decisions to make on if players like Wilkerson, Richardson, Mangold, Dbrick. Revis and Cromarte are worth the salary cap hits.

Which is fine when Brady is your QB.  That team will be competitive until he breaks down or retires.  There's nothing genius about their organizational philosophy.

The organizational philosophy is to work harder than everyone else to find every conceivable edge no matter how slight or how obscure and then exploit those "edges".

Even if it means they will have to cheat to do that.

Actually, the main reason would be cheating.

Don't see why he would not like playing for DB, a dyed-in-the-wool DB coach if ever there was one. Plus Revis loves to practice.  Almost as much as he likes money.

Where did I say that?

The fact is having a 16 million dollar cap slot allocated  for Revis this year and next would prevent the Patriots from signing McCourty this past offseason and Jones, Hightower and Collins next year.

As is, it is going to be hard to sign two of the three next offseason with the cap projected to jump 10-12 million.

Genius?  No.  Pragmatic?  Yes.

Wasn't addressing anything you said. Just a general comment that the Pats are starting on 3rd base on personnel decisions by getting the GOAT for half price. They effectively have a higher salary cap then the rest of league. But hey I wouldn't be complaining if the shoe was on the other foot. Just a statement that's all.

Where?

First, nice apples to oranges comparison.  Harrison is his best size comparison as Rice and Owens had height and weight on Chrebet and would naturally be looked as outside threats.

Lastly, as far as the Patriots Pass D, I am happy with it.  Again, realizing JN's OCD misses the forest for the trees, I would prefer Revis over Butler, but his cost would take a lot away from the remainder of the D.

Go look at Football Outsiders and their (Ryan and Butler) numbers versus #1 and #2s.  Whether it was Butler one on one, Ryan one on one or either with help from McCourty, they are doing well against team's 1s and 2s.

For ****s sake, you sound like a zealot who posts after Revis gives up a TD.

http://www.ganggreennation.com/2015/12/20/10630386/are-the-new-england-patriots-circumventing-the-salary-cap

Another day, another potential New England Patriots scandal. The Boston Globe has an article out detailing the questionable relationship between Tom Brady and a shady individual named Alejandro Guerrero, his "body coach" with whom he has a professional business relationship as well. I suggest you read the article by the Globe, as well as this summary by SBNation, but the short version is that Brady and Guerrero are business partners, and they have had a contractual relationship with the Patriots for several years. In other words, Brady receives a stream of revenue from the Patriots outside of his normal salary.

As of now, this is unlikely to turn into a full-scale scandal:

The NFL says it is aware of the arrangement and has taken no action, despite questions from some specialists in sports law and economics about whether teams should pay for services by for-profit companies owned by their active players and whether the relationship provides value to Brady that should be counted against the club’s salary cap.

The NFL doesn't seem to have an issue with this, as it fills a gray area in the Collective Bargaining Agreement. This is in contrast to the NBA, which prohibits teams from entering into agreements with player-owner businesses. That said, it's still borderline and sketchy, which as we all know, is standard operating procedure for the Patriots. Perhaps this partially explains why Brady was so willing to take less money in his last contract in what was widely considered to be a very team-friendly deal.
