The Bengals played that game as an exhibition.

ok, we whopped them the next week too on the road so maybe they should have played it hard and tried to win keeping us out.

and we came out strong that day so a team w/ nothing to play for packed in just like Buf would have done if we came out strong Sunday but we let the wind affect us and we showed up lifeless and unprepared.

We did not whoop the Bengals the following week. Benson destroyed us and if memory serves the Bengals kicker missed basically an extra point like FG in the 4th qtr.

we whopped them.  after Cincy scored to make it 7-0 we controlled the rest of that game.  we had a huge Braylon drop on a would be long TD and benson gave them a glimmer of hope w/ that long TD run but we came right back and scored and the game was over.

week 17 Rex is now 5-2, Bowles 0-1.

Wrong! Bowles is 1-1.  Last game of the 2011season.  Bowles out coached Rex at the end of the season when he was the interim HC of the Dolphins.  You must remember that game! The great Rex didn't even know his self appointed captain Santanio Holmes was benched!! What an embarrassment!

Watkins missed 3 games

McCoy 4 and i'm not sure he was ever really healthy

Dareus 1

Karlos Williams 5

taylor 2

he had to use Manuel, went 0-2 in those games and missed playoffs by 2 games

and no one else has injuries?  first it is no players, then it is hurt players.  Poor Rex.  I will take the 10 wins and run with it.

He's clueless! He fails to mention that a Rex coached Jets team was eliminated from a Bowles coached Dolphin team in 2011.  Rex didn't even realize Holmes was benched!

I don't get this.  It is never 'easy' to win 10 games in this league - despite records.  The Steelers won 10 games and loss twice to a 5-11 team within the Division. Winning a division game on the road is rarely a gimme - just ask the Pats who lost to the worst team in the east. If it was so damn easy why didn't the Bills win 10 games with roughly the same schedule (beating us twice as we choked)?

Like I said, I have no idea. I'm obviously hoping with every ounce of my soul that this team overperformed due to good coaching. My initial inference based on how things ended is that is not the case. You can only really be sure of these things over time, so we'll see.

I think most of us knew this game was going to be tough. It was literally the perfect storm of everything going wrong for us and right for Buffalo. But what I feared the most about this game was the Rex Ryan affect. Why? Because this is a guy that folds under pressure, Can't Coach for his life and will never be in the playoffs again. Games like this last one was his Super Bowl. Fans of the draft know about this because every year our team would be terrible when it counted but we would play our best ball after elimination. Sure Calvin Pryor is okay but Odell Beckham would have been amazing. Or Maybe Aaron Donald? Did you guys forget 2013?

Did the Buffalo game remind anyone of our last game of the year in 2013 ? All Miami had to do was win and they get in remember?

The Jets announced they are bringing head coach Rex Ryan back for at least one more season after Sunday’s 20-7 victory over the Dolphins at Sun Life Stadium — and the Jets players celebrated.

Well Directly after we beat the Patriots and had to play up in Buffalo this is the only game I thought of - And heres the Headlines again.

Every Single one of us that watched that game knew Buffalo was playing like it was their Superbowl. This is the Highlight of Being the Fan of a Rex Ryan Team. Playing your best ball after elimination in a ground hog's day fashion yearly. Never good enough to win a bowl and never bad enough to get top players in the draft/FA. That offense is pretty much the same one we ran here 5 years ago - There beating no one with it in the playoffs. All I can say is I feel bad for the Buffalo fans while hes there.

Now On our End I feel great.  Please realize we have a completely new Scouting Department and Front Office. What did they show us? They Showed us they had a $$$$ing Plan.

Guys that rarely saw the field like Enunwa, Thomkins, Mauldin, Devin Smith all Flashed.

Average players like Calvin Pryor, Ivory, Powell, and Ryan Fitzpatrick took the next step and looked like superstars at times.

Our Team nearly led the league in take aways. Our Players played well above their head. How often have you been able to say that?

its Clear we have a Solid system in place. A system in which players can succeed. A system in which our draft picks can develop. A coach that has to develop just like any other rookie but certainly flashed his ability to put people in the right places. I feel more confident then I ever have that the Jets have a plan and their Front office is extremely competent. The contracts they gave out made a ton of sense and were extremely smart for the most part.

I can not be more confident that our weaknesses this season will be addressed. We were attacked the same way all season on defense on the outsides and spreading us out. I see a complete overhaul at LB. Teams took away Decker/Marshall which left us with a secondary group of Thomkins/Enunwa/Powell as featured weapons. We will improve this group for damn sure. (CJ spiller may work great when hes cut, and Amaro will be back along with another FA or draft pick).

How we get to our goal is debatable. But I will again tell you this. For the first time since Parcells was here Im confident our team has a successful system in place. I always hated the saying these guys are NFL coaches/FO and they know more then us - Lets trust them. But for the first time Im kind of excited to sit back, relax and see how our guys build this team.

I'm more "wait and see" on this.  Remember that the scouts that we had doing last year's draft were from the previous regime.  This year will be our first year w/ Maccags' scouts.  So basically we have no track record yet to judge them on.  Second, we played a very easy schedule this past season.  Next year's schedule looks to be a lot tougher (though of course things can change greatly year-to-year).  Another thing is that I'm not sure what our salary cap situation is going to be like but I can't imagine we're going to be able to spend like we did last year.  So it's not going to be as easy to upgrade the team.  Also, they say it's harder to improve on 10 wins than it is on 5 wins (or whatever low # of wins we had the year before Maccags).  Jumping from 10 to 12 would be a major achievement.  Lastly, Fitz had a breakout year this year.  It's unclear where his career goes from here but I don't think any of us would be surprised if we saw a lot more of the week 17 (3 INTs) Fitz next year.

I just do not buy the argument that another coach would have done better with this group  There are a thousand things going on with a team of 50 guys over a season.  Projecting is a waste of time.

So the Bills finally won a SB?

Rex Ryan will never bring any team to the Playoffs again. His most important games or atleast the game in which he had the team the most pumped was AFTER we were eliminated. Meaningless season finale's are always his Superbowl. In huge games that actually mean somthing hes come up short for several years and will continue to do so.

one more time.  Rex had a more talented squad, everyone said it loud and often heading into the season.

The Jets had less talent

yet somehow the better HC, with better talent struggled to get to .500

and the inferior Bowles, a rookie, with less talent went 10-6.

and that bit of knowledge leads you to post over and over and over and over that Rex, who hasn't had a winning season since 2010 is the better coach?

Now that's insight you don't get just anywhere

Good Post.

Somhow everyone says we had more talent. However coming into the season it was widely unaminous Buffalo and Miami would Rival NE for the division and we would be a 5 win team. The world thought the Buffalo had more talent going in. However Bowles/Mccag Did a ton with what they had.

My biggest takeaway is how much better some of our players looked under the new regime. Guys like Powell, Pryor, Enunwa to name a few looked like hot garbage under Rex. This year they looked like th could be players in this league. Especially Enunwa he was raw coming into the league but could be a weapon with another year of training camp under his belt. The loss Sunday sucked but I agree big picture we're disappointed over a 10 win season when just two years ago we were celebrating 8-8. Sure we spent money in the offseason but there's just no substitute for bad drafts.   Truth is coming off this year th expectations will only be bigger next year. Making this a huge offseason for Macc and Bowles.

Player Development. Its the first time we have seen it here in a long time.  Our Late picks might actually do something in the future. Its a whole new ballgame.

Rex the King of Winning meaningless games at the end of the year.

It's Classic Ryan  when you think about it. We beat the Fins and lost out on Cooper.

Mo Snacks Williams Richardson

or

Marshall Decker Cooper.

I know what Id have liked.

Unless were talking Winston/Mariotta I don't think we could have done better. WR's early often bust. Will Cooper ever live up to a top 5 pick? For every successful season a rookie WR has theres tons of Devante Parker, Green Beckem, Nelson Aghelor, Devin Smith and Kevin White type seasons. Atleast outside of the Odell Beckham year historically thats how its been.

Love the Williams pick. Especially when you add on the Brandon Marshall trade. Theyll be more WR's we can get via FA or trade every year.

Buffalo has a lot more young talent than we do, don't start pitying Buffalo or we will look as foolish as pitying them this year then watching them destroy our season.

Before the season I would have agreed with you - Not anymore. Rex runs one system and has never developed young players well as a HC. Rex will continue to play good defense and have the same stubborn offense that may beat teams here and there but will never beat the better teams in the league. Rex will be a 6-8 win specialist as long as the players love him. But theres already reports that there not all buying his "Ra=Ra" routine.

Well, FWIW, the OP talked about draft position over wins.  So in his logic, 4-12 would have been better than 10-6 since we have nothing to show for it.

So many post in this thread from you, but you clearly never even read the entire OP. Try Reading - It will especially help when your putting words or even worse "Logic" in others mouths. This entire post was a "What we have to show for it" this season DESPITE missing the playoffs. Team Growth, Player Development and a successful system is finally in place here. Absolutely no one has mentioned rooting for loses this year FWIW.

Like I said, I have no idea. I'm obviously hoping with every ounce of my soul that this team overperformed due to good coaching. My initial inference based on how things ended is that is not the case. You can only really be sure of these things over time, so we'll see.

Obviously your thoughts are fair points. Wait and see is the safe way to go. But most of us here have watched this game for at least a decade. Also most of us realize the chances of winning the Superbowl at any point is very small. So What are we really rooting for?

To me its a team that has Solid Systems in place that can win games and develop talent. A coach that can adjust and a Front office that has a long term plan to build a successful franchise. Even moreso that the FO/Coach has an opportunity to do this since time is so limited. Yes all obvious stuff.

Theres so many situations out there in which Guys don't have time and are fired quickly (Lovie, Chip etc) or are on the hot seat so soon (Rex, Gus bradley) are are living off a singular franchise player ( Indi/Pitt).

To me there's only a few franchises that have developed based on great coaching along with a Great Front office (I can't see us ever having that Andrew Luck). Carolina obviously jumps out along with Seattle and Cincinnati.  Good draft after good draft. Good systems in place on both sides of the ball. Mid range FA's making big differences. These guys do it every year.

So While I hope for a Superbowl I know the odds of that are minimal. The hope here is to get one of these systems. As of now like you said all we can do is wait and see. But this is the one time since Parcells that theres hope. Its been over a decade since then so its certainly worth a little bit of excitement. It was our Defenses first year in a one gap system and I expect it to improve greatly next year where teams attacked us (Our LB's). We put a solid system in place on offense and I think its safe to say they want to improve ST's.

its an easy team to compare us to bc of Bowles but I look at Arizona and think thats our upside over the next 2-3 years. Older QB, Dominant Defense. Great Coaching/FO.

Lastly Since we both follow the draft Im going to be real interested in how closely the Jets look at the Oline talent/LB talent. There will certainly be nice options at both spots where we pick. Arizona has drafted Oline in the first 2 out of the last 3 years. The other year they drafted a Safety that eventually became a star LB. Houston has had tons of success with mid round lineman.

Good Post.

1. Yes we are going to have a tougher schedule. Im not concerned. I think this team will improve and we certainly played our best in big games outside of Buffalo.

2. Mccag was a scout all of last year and made all the final calls. He brought in a ton of his own scouts and people. Theres no way Im putting any of our success on the few former regime's scouts that stayed on a temp basis.

3. We are going to have 30m to spend. The most interesting decision is going to be the deicisions we make at Dline. Do we want to stay hardcore 3-4 (Harrison?). Do we want to spent more in Wilkerson/Richardson. Richardson at 2m is a steal this season and has a ton of value. Will one be moved? Also will Bowles relationship with Tyrann Mathieu lead him here? Because letting a Lineman go will allow us to have that kind of contract in the future.

4. I would hope we continue to get role players for Fitz. He moreso then most QB's will take his chances with WR3/WR4's, and other players. We need another WR in the draft with upside that can make the tough catches. We need more pass catching threats. Mid level RB guys will surely be avail like CJ spiller that have had success in this system.

5. Yes its hard to improve by 2 games next year. But if we do we are getting homefield, winning our division and a Bye. It surely is the dream scenerio.

Dlinemen bust out also, Vernon Gholston says hi.

I'd still have taken Cooper over Williams. Don't get me wrong Leo's been solid, but It's an offensive league and Cooper looks special.

Never was a big fan of Cooper. Hes fast and makes great cuts but has a ton of drops and Isn't a guy that win jump balls which is really huge in todays NFL. He was tied with second in the league in dropped passes.

WR's are way easier to find in the draft then potential dominant Dlineman. And Leo has that potential.

Jets defensive end Leonard Williams had a strong rookie year in 2015.

On Thursday, he was rewarded for it, by being named the NFL's Defensive Rookie of the Year ... by ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr

No word on if Kiper will mail Williams a bronzed pompadour as a trophy.

Kiper gave Williams the award as part of his all-rookie team. Tampa Bay quarterback Jameis Winston won the Offensive Rookie of the Year award.

Williams was the only Jets player on Kiper's all-rookie team. The other defensive end who made it: the Raiders' Mario Edwards Jr.

Kiper also considered Bills cornerback Ronald Darby and Chiefs corner Marcus Peters for Defensive Rookie of the Year. In the end, here is why he chose Williams:

He played nearly 800 snaps, was outstanding against the run, helped free up teammates to rush the passer, and actually did some great work in pushing the pocket himself. You really have to watch Williams on every snap because stats won't do him justice. I had him as the No. 1 overall player in the 2015 NFL draft, and I think he lived up to that. And yes, he was a total steal at No. 6 for New York. Great work by that front office.

The Jets indeed drafted Williams sixth last spring, after he fell into their laps. Nobody expected him to fall that far. It was a no-brainer pick for the Jets, and general manager Mike Maccagnan hasn't claimed any scouting wizardry for making it, since he said it was an easy choice — best player available and all that.

Bowles had the better team and lost to Rex twice. Why? Rex is a better coach at this stage in his career. Probably always will be.

Rex is more experienced as a HC and his players play hard for him. The Bills have a good team and im honestly convinced that the only reason they swept us this season is because Rex probably spent the entire season doing nothing but game planning to beat us out of spite...any other coach would have kicked field goals on fourth down in the redzone even if the game was meaningless...he spite f***ed us.

Holy sh*t.  Another one?

I'm starting to wonder if Jets fan even believe what they're saying or do all these thread about Rex Ryan and the Bills come out of some weird type of insecurity and you're all just trying to convince yourself at this point.  If he sucks, he sucks.  He's not a threat.  **** him.  Who cares?  Why constantly feel the need to say the same thing over and over again?

I too am happy that we have Bowles and prefer him to Rex.  He seems like he has a great future but we've seen these starts before and the fact remains that he squandered a 4-1 start (78% of teams make the playoffs in the last 25 years), vs the easiest schedule in the league, with a top 10 offense and a top 5 defense in a year that the AFC playoff landscape is by far, bar none, the worst it's ever been. It's wide-open.  No dominate team.  The Jets could have easily won 3 straight vs. the field.

And guess who handed him his season?  Rex Ryan.

**** sake people.  Let it go.  All this pointing and laughing and making fun of Rex and the Bills but guess who got the last the laugh?  The guy you all feel the need to constantly make fun of for no valid reason other than spite or some deep insecurity or fear.

Last time I checked Rex just knocked this team out of the playoffs.  All this talk about next year who has the better future is totally meaningless.  Right now it is like Rex is in Bowles head.  Think about it; we were able to beat the Pats and yet got SWEPT by the Bills.  We have absolutely NOTHING to crowing about.

Lmao. No kool aide there.

We have had 3 years of being the laughing stock of the league. Our topics have been Rex's Wife's Feet, Busted Draft Picks, Fire Idzik and the Butt Fumble.

This year we had top 10 Offense in which Fitz/Marshall broke all time Jet Records. We had a top 10 defense in which we were near the league leaders in Takeaways. Ohh and we beat the Patriots ass thoroughly costing them home field advantage.

After years of being a side show a little kool aide is well deserved.

This fanbase is like Groundhog Day set on a 3 year loop. Everyone loves the new coach and think this is the one then a few years later after he's fired they hate him and love the new one because he's the one.

I'll wait a few years before I decide.

Shockwave, I appreciate your optimism but do you not realize the league is still laughing?

The Jets had all those things you just mentioned yet didnt make the playoffs after a 4-1 start (78% of the league had made the playoffs in the last 25 years) vs. the easiest schedule in the league.

They got swept by their buffoon of an ex-HC.  That same buffoon, sent the Jets home.  This is Chadwick leading the Dolphags to the division title, all over again but worse.

Everyone is still laughing.

its an easy team to compare us to bc of Bowles but I look at Arizona and think thats our upside over the next 2-3 years. Older QB, Dominant Defense. Great Coaching/FO.

4. I would hope we continue to get role players for Fitz. He moreso then most QB's will take his chances with WR3/WR4's, and other players. We need another WR in the draft with upside that can make the tough catches. We need more pass catching threats. Mid level RB guys will surely be avail like CJ spiller that have had success in this system.

fitz isn't even close to the kind of player Palmer is. Hate to break it to you but Fitz is the role player on this offense

This fanbase is like Groundhog Day set on a 3 year loop. Everyone loves the new coach and think this is the one then a few years later after he's fired they hate him and love the new one because he's the one.

I'll wait a few years before I decide.

Yep.  I'm on full wait and see mode.  The biggest Rex lovers on the board became the loudest voices in the room demanding his removal.

But remember. One road game was at MetLife (Giants) and another was in London, a neutral site.

Jets lost to NE,Oakland, Houston, and Buffalo

Jets beat Colts and Dallas.

2-4 in true road games

Beating the Phins in London would be tougher than beating the Phins in Miami IMO.  Same level of interest from the fan base...longer trip to the game.

You're pretty Swiss on everything so I cant  say I remember your take to bump your posts, I mean, I'm sure they're out there...but the rest of your crew, have hundreds of ball washing posts for the world to see.  I've bumped a few in the past.  Too lazy to do it now.
