Ravens standout linebacker Zach Orr announced Wednesday his intention to return to the NFL on Good Morning Football after he was forced to briefly retire due to a congenital spine condition. With his football career seemingly on the verge of being revived, where will he end up?

Orr will be an unrestricted free agent, and although he still needs to be cleared by an individual team doctor, he immediately becomes a priority for teams hungry for help at linebacker. According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, Orr already has a visit scheduled with the Detroit Lions on Thursday, per sources informed of the situation.

Orr had 30 more solo tackles than the next-closest Raven last season and led the team with 132 total. A perfect complement to former first-round pick C.J. Mosley, Orr was in line to become the next great inside linebacker to come through the Ravens' system.

"I really don't know [where I'll play] yet," he said Wednesday. "I'm eager to see. I just want to play football. I just want to play ball. I mean perfect situation, perfect scenario, of course Baltimore. I have a great relationship with everybody in that organization, teammates that I've got to know really well that I'll talk to for the rest of my life and then obviously with C.J. Mosley, we came into the league the same year and I felt like we had a chance to be one of the best tandems in the National Football League, we're working toward that. So perfect scenario, Baltimore obviously would be favorites. But I just want to play football. And at the end of the day, that's what I want to do. I love ball and I'm ready to give whoever or whatever my all out there on the field."

Orr said the Ravens are aware of his current situation.

"They kind of have an idea," he said. "They've seen how I've been talking, how I've been working and just kind of my focus in the offseason. I haven't really been talking or working out like a retired player. So now I'll probably get a lot of messages from a lot of people. A lot of people didn't really know because I kind of just wanted to keep it under wraps and not jump to quick decisions or anything like that."

Orr's decision thrusts a good player in his athletic prime back onto the market at a time when many rosters have already been set. He would have been an obvious candidate for a long-term deal in Baltimore, but at age 25, Orr is now in full control of his near future.

I don't know too much about this guy but 132 tackles on what was a solid defense is nothing to disregard.

A congenital spine condition is worrisome... but with the money we have available, him being 25, and our need to develop a long-term solution next to Darron Lee he should get a long look from Mac Daddy

They're too similar.  Both weak side ILBs so doubt the Jets pursue him unless Bowles feels like he can use both of them at the same time.

He's a LB, against a WR.  Don't you get it.  Why do you think offenses try so hard to get single coverage with a LB?

Yes it was mismatch, but that wasn't what caused the TD. Basic curl patterns rarely result in long TD runs like that.  Orr took a bad pursuit angle, and Enunwa made him pay for it. They even pointed it out at the end of the video.

Brandon Marshall also made a nice block on the play.

The Jets are too committed to ILBs already to commit a contract to someone with Orr's health issues.

I think the Lee pick will go down as a regrettable 1st round pick.  There are too many options in lower rounds and FA.

Lee has to be a superstar to justify that selection. So far, he's not justifying it.

Because LBs aren't as fast as WRs, quick to react or as athletic

This is a given

Seems like he's on the radar and will be coming in for a visit:

Not a fit if the Jets ran a "traditional" defense, but as I said earlier, if Bowles thinks he can incorporate him, they may take a shot.

Yes, watching Bowles explain how it was always the plan to make Darron Lee even more of a part-time player will be quite amusing.

Yeah, not sure if I'm mistaken but I thought Orr was a Darron Lee type of ILB on the weak side.

Maybe Orr can play both?  I'm not gonna' pretend I've seen much of him.

Orr is a "new age coverage LB" he's 6-0 and 225 lbs according to his bio:

People need to forget about LB sizes with offenses passing on every down.  It's about

defenses staying flexible and not having to change personnel against high speed offenses

You're not wrong, but if teams see a defense lined up with two small LBers on the inside, they're gonna run it up the gut.

would honestly have to see more of Orr to say for sure, but not a fan of taking away a LBer who can take on the big guys up front.

What exactly are you talking about?

Demario Davis and Darron Lee are the only ILBs on the roster who are young enough to have a future in the league.  Bringing in a 3rd guy to compete with them who already has excelled in the NFL is smart and not even remotely overkill at the position.  Are you saying that Bruce Carter should stand in the way of us signing a player who is now available due to odd circumstances?

Crazy

He's worth a look.

Guy was a FA, mostly played ST's first 2 seasons.  Had a break out year, and the health issue came up.  The health issue is a major concern.

Imagine the Jets might offer him a one year show me contract.  If somebody offers more they should let him go

So suddenly one of the top GMs Ozzie Newsome is a dummy and spinal cord injuries are insignificant for guys playing linebacker in the NFL.............you guys.

Who said he was a dummy? For what? Weren't they gonna give him an extension before he decided to retire?

Pretty sure the Jets lead the league in giving huge free agent deals to players that other teams found as UDFAs a few years prior.

Not a dummy.  Orr got a new medical report.  Remember the mantra, only our GM is a dummy.  Even if we hired Newsome

Guess that's why it was announced that he's coming in for a visit tomorrow.

Love that you've written Lee off after his rookie season.  You can't make this shlt up.  Regrettable is right
