The most important Jets coach?

Frank Pollack. The Jets new offensive line coach.

How long has it been since this Jet team has had any continuity? If you look at the greatest dynasties in football, continuity on offense has always been at the forefront. It starts with the franchise QB. 49ers didn't lose a beat going from Montana to Steve Young. In house SYSTEM was the same. Cowboys ran the same plays over & over and did it so well with Aikman that even though you knew Michael Irving was running the out on the sideline it was almost unstoppable. Tom Brady to WELKER, than to Amendola, now Edelman...SYSTEM.

We finally have a head coach bringing in his offensive system. You can't run any system without the guys up front being in sync with what's expected on every play. It takes timing which comes back to my premise regarding our new line coach. How fast he assembles this starting lineup & melds the line with Gase offense will be the tell all of the Jets 1st quarter of the season.

Contrary to what some Jet fans believe, Sam will have plenty of weapons to start the season. Anderson, Quincy, Crowder, Herndon, Bell is a pretty damn good GROUP of offensive weapons. Everything will hinge on the Oline coming out of camp & preseason & how well they've gelled. If Gase & Pollack can eliminate the pre-snap penalties with this group so Darnold rarely plays behind the sticks, that alone will help bring some tempo to the offense, and allow Gase to dictate to a defense. The 2nd thing is the running game, Wesco could be a HUGE contributor. Is Wesco slow for a TE, sure, is he slow as a blocker? Hell no, he's a 270Lb pc of granite that likes to mix it up.

Look no further than how New England uses Devlin. It's insane how that guy helps get their running game going. Wesco can bring that same thing to the Jets, not just lining up at end to pulverize 250 Lb edge rushers, but the guy can line up as an Hback too. He'll by far be the most important contributor from the 2019 draft early in the season to help protect our franchise QB.

Lets pray Pollack is an Oline whisperer like Dante Scarnechia up in New England. They'll be the most Important group to the Jets success next year. I expect the defense to be very good. I also think Sam will ball out if he's has a running game & our offense plays in positive down & distance scenarios. It's very tough to stop 5 yard plays consistantly in this league. If you always have the threat of run or pass and can spread out a defense, there is always a weak link in the chain to attack. Think Buster Skrine & Morris Claiborne last year.

The Jets finally have somewhat of hope at QB and just turned over their entire coaching staff, including the Head Coach who is fancied as a offensive genius and Qb Whisperer but the OL coach, who may or may not be here next season, is the most important coach on the team.

It has got to be Gase.  Greg Williams will do "his thing" and Frank Pollack is a seasoned Veteran Positional Coach and will have a big impact.  Darnell Loggains is a cog in Gase' system and will do all that is "expected" from him within the guidelines set by Gase.  Brant Boyer has his hands full, virtually starting over from scratch, but has been handed a good mix of seasoned special teamers, and prospective contributors to work with.  The other positional coaches will do their jobs competently.

Gase will be the focus, and will have the "eyes of the masses" on him.  The expectations, and some of the concerns, are on him.  He will set the tone, and get the credit, or fault, for the development of our quarterback, the installation of his offensive philosophy,  and the results.  Any dissension or perception of discord or failure will be laid at his feet.

The pressure will be tremendous.  I suspect no honeymoon period.  The only given is that he will be intensely focused on the success of the Jets, and will work tirelessly and fiercely toward that end.  That is his curse, and his greatest attribute.  No longer will we wonder what the game plan is or question how long it will be before problems are addressed.  No more "slow deaths".  Works for me.

i like Frank Pollack btw he's a strong coach... but fans don't realize the Line is basically fine.

they brought in KO, Compton and Edoga and that's helpful. it's not perfect but Frank Pollack was given resources to work with

the coach with the most work cut out for him is Brant Boyer the ST coach

he lost an All Pro Pk a pro bowl KR and has to replace them with nobodies - the good news is they were nobodies before they worked with Boyer. But if he can cobble together a real ST this year he really is the new Westoff and they should sign him forever

Hopefully he knows how to use a 4 man offensive line since the Jets don't have a starting Center yet. Maybe one of the 100 defensive lineman can transition to offense.

the buck stops with gase.  yes the position coaches need to do their thing and understand how to coach the players to succeed but the ultimate buck stops with gase.  imo that was one of bowles main problems.  he wouldn't back the position coaches so when wilky would come late or the hitman being a locker room cancer he would take the side of the player every time.  he wasn't hired to be a player's coach.

When Dante Scarnechia retired up in New England the year after Rex was fired, Belichick hired our Oline coach Googs.

The drop off in Oline play for the Patriots was huge, everyone in New England hated him. So even though you still had BB at the top, McDaniel calling plays, the new Oline coach sucked balls.

The next year, they fired Googs after 1 year & Dante came out of retirement to coach again. Well, you know the rest of this story. Gase doesn't have an offense without Pollack matching this Oline to the plan Gase lays out, plain & simple.

Just remember, we all have a little coach within ourselves.  Listen to him.

Unless he wants to run a draw play on 3rd and 9.......then shut that inner mother f***er up!

Gase would drive Dolphans nuts with that play call as well although some would say it was due to lack of confidence in his QB.

How is this even a thought. Gase is by far the most important coach. When the team is in a downward spiral and they want to make a change, they don't  fire the OL coach, that is unless you are the Patriots and you need a scape goat for letting Brady be introduced to the turf on a regular basis by Von Miller.
