Great player for us, especially in 22' . Who guns for us full time going forward? Irvin Charles.. Echols?

Irv Charles is an emerging ST star, and the CB Oliver we brought in from SF seems destined to be the other gunner.

Hardee was a great player on specials, but it was clear the Jets weren't going to bring him back this year.  They are going younger and cheaper on specials.

Read that the Seahawks were considering Tomlinson, too. If he signs, the Jets will be back in black for a comp pick from Huff.

We need some other team to fall in love with Becton, too.

Would Hardee even register as a Qualifying Free Agent? Not everyone does - our DT pick up from Arizona doesn't count, for instance, I think due to contract size.

Wasn’t Tomlinson released and therefore not part of the formula?

Good point. Becton or maybe Ashtyn Davis (who I actually want back) may be our best remaining hopes.

Oliver, 27, is excited to share his knowledge of playing in big games with the Jets' relatively young secondary. He spent last season with the 49ers and played in 17 games (6 starts). In the postseason, Oliver played primarily on special teams and helped the San Francisco reach the Super Bowl, where the Niners ultimately lost to the Chiefs.

Depends how much Hardee got. He was within $1MM of the minimum when the Jets first signed him, he's 30+ now, and just missed 1/3 of last season. Being a Cleveland native, it's possible he took a fully guaranteed minimum deal from them just to know where he's going, that it'll be someplace he wants to be, plus really he wasn't going to get a starting (or even primary backup) defender contract even if he waited around.

At this point - purely for comp pick formula reasons - it's probably common to see teams waiting until after the draft. If a team's already not getting any picks then they wouldn't care, and at this point Cleveland is only due a pair of 7th round comp picks. Nearly worthless (Brock Purdy aside), but that doesn't mean they'd want to lose a pick for a 1 year contract on a 30 year old special teamer.

Then again this is the team that made that trade & mega-contract for Watson after sitting out the '21 season but still before any suspension punishment was handed down (or before any criminal charges were known yet), so there's that.
