You didn't answer my question.  I asked about his "pace".  :)

I only heard one talking head complain about pace.  I look at his development in a crawl-walk-run model.

He is learning to call plays.  Apparently, he did absolute none at UNC.  Factor his gametime plays are with rookie WRs, OLmen and rookie OC.  He is not getting first team reps with starting OL.

I am not looking for him getting in and out of the huddle and/or running a no huddle drive.  He looks good.  You can see the raw talent.

This is going to be another long year.  There is also hope.

Buccaneers to release OLB Randy Gregory

8/18/2024 11:29:41 AM

Randy Gregory remained absent from the Buccaneers during training camp, and his time with the team will now come to an end, Adam La Rose of Pro Football Rumors reports. The veteran defensive end has reached an agreement with the Bucs and will be released, according to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times.

Gregory’s absence has been shrouded in mystery, but Stroud’s report suggests an injury settlement has been reached. Such arrangements are commonplace during this time of year, as they allow for players to be let go while rehabbing ailments before being positioned to sign with a new team. Gregory will be a free agent once his release is official, though he will no doubt have a tepid market.

The 31-year-old had been on the reserve/did not report list since late July after also missing mandatory minicamp. The reason for doing to was unclear, but Gregory filed a suit against the Broncos and the NFL for being prevented from using a prescription medication containing THC earlier this offseason. Updates on his situation since then have been sparse.

Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles said in the lead-in to training camp he had not been in communication with Gregory, who signed in April. The former Cowboy turned down a Dallas offer in 2022 and took one with identical terms to join the Broncos. His tenure in the Mile High City did not go according to plan, however, and after only 10 Broncos games he was traded to the 49ers in October.

Gregory posted 2.5 sacks in San Francisco, but his overall production while playing on a five-year, $69.5MM pact was underwhelming to say the least. He took a $3MM deal to head to Tampa Bay and serve a depth role in the team’s pass rush. Shaquil Barrett departed in free agency (and has since retired), creating a vacancy along the edge for the Bucs. After Gregory was absent from minicamp and training camp – accruing fines along the way – however, it seemed as though he would be released before the start of the season.

Eh… They can dump him after this season and it won’t cost them a bag of peanuts.

With cap hits of nearly 48 million this year, over 41.5 in ‘25 & over 58.5 in ‘26 … the jints are not cutting him... not to mention the dead cap hit.

For 2025, though, it's a different conversation.

Jones is slated to make $30.5 million next year, with a deadline for the Giants to make a decision on the fifth day of the league year, in March, when $11 million of his salary get guaranteed.

If he gets released before that without a post-June 1st designation, New York will have to handle $22.21 million in dead money, but it goes down from his $41.605 million projected cap hit ($19.395 million in cap savings). The Giants would immediately save that amount, without any future implications on the salary cap. This may be the most likely and prudent scenario at this point, clearing the decks as soon as possible while the team looks for a new quarterback.

So, he needed THC? 😆

Shocker.

He got paid almost a million dollars for 3 weeks of camp. God bless him.

lol giants.

Even so, this is a concerning narrative that has dominated Schmitz's second season. He missed more than a week of training camp due to a shoulder injury.

A second-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, Schmitz struggled along with the rest of the offensive line last season. Among qualified centers, Schmitz's 30 total pressures and five sacks allowed were both the fifth-most in the NFL, according to Pro Football Focus.

It's unclear how severe the injury is, and the Giants have roughly two weeks before the season opener against the Minnesota Vikings.

If Schmitz is to miss any time, veteran Greg Van Roten would likely step in as the starter. The Giants also would need to decide on Austin Schlottman and Jimmy Morrissey if they want to keep a third center before roster cuts.

CINCINNATI — Ja’Marr Chase took part in practice for the first time this season.

The Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver has been holding in as he negotiates a contract extension with the team and watched every practice — except one he didn’t show up to — from the sideline.

On Sunday, the team’s first practice following the conclusion of the preseason, he rejoined his teammates on the field. He was a full participant and the team expects him to practice all week, league sources told The Athletic. The Bengals also posted a photo on X of Chase at practice.

Defensive ends Yetur Gross-Matos and Leonard Floyd avoided significant knee injuries in the 49ers’ final preseason game, coach Kyle Shanahan said Sunday.

Gross-Matos is listed as “week to week,” while Floyd is “day to day,” Shanahan said on a conference call with Bay Area reporters.

Shanahan said he did not believe Gross-Matos’ injury is serious enough for him to open the season on injured reserve, which would require him to sit out the first four games of the 2024 NFL regular season.

“We’ll see how this week goes, and hopefully he’ll have a chance to get back in practice for Week 1,” Shanahan said of Gross-Matos. “But we haven’t mentioned anything about IR.”

The 49ers open the season on Monday, Sept. 9, against the New York Jets, and Floyd is expected to be in the starting lineup.

In other injury news, the 49ers expect rookie receiver Ricky Pearsall to return to practice Monday, which would appear to put him on pace to suit up for the regular-season opener.

However, Shanahan suggested that safety Talanoa Hufanga could open the season on reserve/physically unable to perform. He would be required to miss the first four games of the season.
