I was under the impression that there wasn't any one piece but that Borgo was considering leaving, (and finally left), because he thought the bannings repressive.

But then gg-whom most people consider about the nicest poster on the board-seemed to think Borgo has come forth with an insulting post or posts. But now nobody seems to know which posts gg finds offensive-all very confusing.

I respect Borgo's decision to leave. But over the course of my time here, I have come to appeciate that Max and the Mods know how to run a message board. Until such time as I can see some concrete evidence that they are autocratic, I'm staying here.

Gonna miss Borgo though. A lot. Hope he finds his way back here, in time.

You would have to ask GG about that. It seems she just didn't like him and his style in general. It seems like the answer to "which posts did GG not like?" would be: all of them.

Borgo, here is the way i look at it as someone who has caught their share of criticism on here. As long as Max isn't deleting or modifying my threads, these people are pretty much b$tching on deaf ears.

As for advertising, this is all adsense google stuff, and that stuff just gets automaticallyh posted, there really is not granular content monitoring like you are suspecting. Besides, i doubt ANY real money is brought in by it, i doubt this site even pays for itself just with the server cost and not even getting into the amount of time the people put into working on it.

Look, it is almost football season, the crybabies will be occupied soon and all will be right with the jets world as everyone stats complaining about the team. Don't cut and run now dude.

JGB's, aka my son, loves JN and has no issue over anything. Max was fair. JGBs has been out of the country quite a bit lately, and will be back at JN posting happily in 10 days.

Boss Turd missies him terribly but is thrilled he returns in 10 days.

Funny how this evolves into a Max VS. Borgo thread. Max didn't ban Borgo, Borgo decided he didn't like the way the site was being run, so he left. Fair enough. I've been around since 2005, but when the site became less enjoyable to me, I left and without a farewell or a finger pointed (in any direction). I came back after awhile because i felt like coming back. Hopefully Borgo will do the same. There are lots of sites and lots of motivations to associate/disassociate with them. Max is a good guy trying to do his best to make this place a bit less negative and hostile. Negative and hostile will make people leave for greener pastures just as surely as any percieved censorship. Fairness is a relative term depending on which you think is the greater evil. Borgo will be missed, but hopefully, when he does decide to return, this site will be more like it was originally, less angry and less combative.

I don't think Borgo was ever negative and hostile, do you? Does anyone? I'd like to know. He did seem a bit obsessed with the whole "stifling creativity" thing but I don't think he was ever hostile.

This is the most sensible post in the past month. Lance, I was around when you quit posting missed your posts, you were one of my favorites to read.

This will be my fifth offseason on Jetnation (wow). And although I am not claiming to be wiser, or higher on the food chain, I just thought I'd like to point out that this is not the first time the site has been like this.

It all comes down to the offseason. Every offseason there is fighting and bickering and bull**** and bannings going on, its the circle of life. When there is no football to talk about, everyone moves over to the lounge and things get much more heated. So for you newer guys, its not a changing of the guard, its just something thats seasonal and always cycles through. Just weather the storm, hibernate, and getting ready for an exciting year (win or lose- this year will be exciting).

Read this and the other "Borgo" thread and it will be apparent that free expression is routinely questioned and/or demeaned. (Joe, I commend your fortitude.) They view what I consider humor, to be offensive, risque or demeaning in many cases. Further, they and Max have put a damper--either in threads or PMs--on posting content and specifically interjecting humor (what I called stream of consciousness posting the other day) in various threads of different topics. As I have said, creative minds--especially those of us who hope to make people laugh--work best utilizing stream of consciousness. It's how it works. If you don't like it, ban humor, too.

Further, I just don't agree with Max' purging of posters like Johnny Green Balls, Gangreen, and several others for specious reasons IMO; plus how badly Pramatic Bus was treated last week. This place was built by Max, a guy who got booted from JI because of content and free expression. So, now what does he do? By his own admission: "Clean up the site" by getting rid of some folks that can't get along or act differently from some of the loud mouths. What? Okay, I respect your ability to do this; it is your site, after all. But, I don't agree with it, nor do I want to support your site with my creative content, which some have expressed was not appropriate or welcome. Somehow, I can't help but believe that all these actions and histrionics are tied to the obvious influx of advertisers. You all see the new ads, right? I hope I'm wrong about this. But if I'm not, Max goes down as the biggest fraud/sell out in message board history. (Now you can add me to the list of banned posters for insubordination.)

Look, my leaving JetNation does not make or break the place. Let me go in peace. Stop writing about me. Lock this thread. I never wanted to be a message board "folk hero/nut case", which is where I've found myself twice already. All I ever wanted to do was write humor pieces that would make people laugh.

I don't think anyone of us demented people want to be folk heroes. I just wanted some laughs is all.

No, Borgo was never negative or hostile. As such, he wasn't banned or deleted as far as i know. The changes being implemented are happening in order to make the place less negative and hostile in general. Borgo doesn't agree with those changes, as is his right. And so he's left, as is his right.

Getting accused of being about to ban someone for speaking out against me is just classic as well. I get called more names here than anyone but let's ban Borgo because he called me a sell out. I love it.

About the advertisements. The only new ad that is up there is for sportsbook.com. Gambling content. Borgo your conspiracy theories are usually pretty bad but this one takes the cake. Yes an off-shore gambling company is leaning on us, telling us to clean up the content. Holy crap, that is good. Those guys would want us to put their links in the middle of porn.

Look we just disagree. I think certain things are over the top and classless. Cancer jokes and political stuff -- just have no place here. That has always been the case. I respect your right to disagree with that. I do suggest that a message board hero like yourself should just stop reading the site. Because, I have to be honest, we are not going to stop talking about these topics. Why? Because they make us laugh.

Seriously though, this crackdown is not making sense to me. Obviously i'm not privy to eveyrthing, but it seems some of the oversensitive types are starting to govern the board, and I think that was borgo's point, which I was agreeing with..

I disagree with that statement. Click on the report this post button. Oh that's right we are the only board that I know of that removed that. I actually went into the code and removed it. Why? Because I am a strong believer in the community policing itself. I am a real strong believer in that. I think that is what makes this site great.

About this "crack down" that you mentioned, well let's take a look at it.

We have had like 4 or 5 members banned in the past two months I believe. They were banned for starting political threads or personal attacks.

Most of these are temporary bans. Everyone is fighting with each other and just pissing all over the few rules we have. No politics, no personal attacks. That covers about 99% of it.

All we ask is that people follow those rules. I would bet that during the time of this "crack down" we have banned less people than other boards. I don't think we have gone too far, quite the opposite in my opinion.

Doesn't everybody have that fantasy? Admittedly, ever since that summer at Uncle Mike's, my fantasies have been pretty crazy, but this one isn't so bad.

Yeah, Max doesn't do the advertisements to make money, but to offset some of the costs of running the server. That thing's like $100+ bucks a month from what I could gather when I had access to the mod's forums. He does it all because he likes the site, not as a commercial venture.

The server cost about $150 a month right now. There are other costs but it isn't that much. All told the site is profitable. But believe me it isn't about the money. A part time job at Staples would bring in more money than this does. :-P
