Darrelle Revis Holdout: MERGED

How about this? How about Tannenbaum and Woody "make it known" that they are beginning contract talks with Harris and Mangold? Why the heck not at this point?

That way, Revis will be sent the signal that they are moving on to other priorities. If he then wants to come back and discuss... good.

If not... let's lock up our other lifetime Jets talent. It's not like Mangold isn't one of the tops at his position (if not the #1), and when you compare his behavior to that of Revis in this situation, you tell me which you'd rather have as far as team chemistry is concerned moving forward.

I think Revis got plenty of signals last night.

great speech but the Revis excerpt

Ok guys we dont have revis in this building right now. Does it matter that Revis is not here? Goddamn he's pretty ******* good. He's pretty good. But this isn't about 1 guy. it's about leading the league in wins...

You know football doesnt work like that. The second you know you have a great player on your hands- you lock him up. Woody got burned once with Chad...but who else of his own has he ever locked up long term?

BRYAN THOMAS,JERRICHO COTCHERY,AND BRICK COME TO MIND.sorry for the cap locks.who else should have been locked up long term who wasnt?

schwartz is clearly the one with an ego problem and a potential stumbling block. if "Sources in the Revis camp insist that there hasn’t been a dime of fully guaranteed signing bonus money offered in any of the proposals.

mcannizzaro@nypost.com" this is true its ludicrous. How many major signings had NO guaranteed money in them?

The situation may be analagous to ARod when it took a sitdown one on one with him and mgt to get a deal done without Boras.

This will get done with or without schwartz and rest assured Revis will be on the field for game 1

DR holding out doesn't make this team better

But that's only momentary. Trading him is forever.

Seriously. Holding out doesn't hurt the team longterm; trading Revis does. The key is to wait him out until he drops is Aso Money demand.

It may very well run into the season, but that's the way to play it. Either the Jets will do well without him, and he'll do the crawl back - or the Jets will realize how much they need him and they'll blow the dust off Woody's checkbook. As bad as it looks, it's still in the interests of both sides to get a deal done.

It's amazing how many people out there who are getting paid to talk about this, think it would be a ridiculously bad move to give MEvi$ a $16 million per deal.

Can't say the same for some here.

We need to pay Revis as much as he wants. Maybe more.

Sincerely,

Leon's leg

The funny thing is most people thought the deal offered to Leon was good and he should have signed it, and that it was his fault and greed he did not.

MEvi$ turns down $120 mill per for 10 years and demands $160 mill per for 10, now Woody's cheap and Tanny's evil.

Except he won't be on the open market next year. Mangold is actually making more money this year than he did the last two combined because of perfomance incentives he has already reached.

His deal will be done before the season is over.

http://www.nyjetscap.com/nickmangold.html

be done? they haven't even spoken to nick's agents. they won't even start negotiations until after the season is completed.

any trade will likely be a combination of players and picks, sort of like the deal to trade up for sanchez. I think he Jets would go for and combination of ; RDE , special teamers, #2 corner, plus picks

I'd go as far as to say right now that it's almost more likely he gets traded after sitting out a year

when I saw the post cover today, "LIAR LIAR", it was the worst possible development; acrimony, accusations, and a $40 million dollar rift

gary myers trolled you hard. it's like a chess game, both sides are making their moves, there's still four weeks to go. chillax.

The thing is that the deal Leon turned down was a lot like D'Brick's deal, except there was no signing bonus money. All the new money kicked in after the last year in his existing contract, which was 2009. So even if he had signed, if he'd suffered the same injury, he probably would've been off the team anyway on an injury settlement. So signing it would've given Leon security, but by not signing it he got the Jets a fourth rounder.

But that's the lesson for Revis - get the money upfront.

I understand this slats, you know the Jets are going to negotiate up front money with him.

The hang up has been on him not coming off the $16 mill per part.

I don't blame Tanny or Woody one bit for not talking guaranteed money with him until he comes down to earth on his $16 mill per for 10 year demands.

But the difference that you can't seem to comprehend, is that Brick isn't being the greedy little bastard that Revis is. Consider it from his perspective, he had two years on his deal and with Mangold, Harris and a slew of others with only a year left, he likely expected to have to wait his turn for a new deal, figuring next year at the earliest. But instead, the Jets make an offer which boosts his salary for this year, and essentially gives him that brand new contract extension he would be looking for next year already in place. It's not exactly this crazy, far-out, unreasonable situation. Just rather acknowledging that he wasn't up for a deal yet anyway, so put one in place starting for next year and get rewarding for helping the team by working this out in advance with an increase in pay this year.

Not really sure how the Jets become villains in that one. Apparently you believe the Jets should be in the business of tearing up a players contract and giving him a brand new one every time a guy plays well? Not exactly the soundest business strategy, particularly when you're talking about guys who are doing plenty well enough for themselves as high first round picks.

And there is a strong likelihood based on the position he plays & his draft status that DBrick will see EVERY PENNY of that contract.

The guarantees and injury argument is total smoke & mirror bullsh*t.

This is ALL about Revis making $16 million a year. Once he gets off that there will be a deal. If not, there won't be.

amen

the players act like they should be entitled to get paid if they play or not, get hurt or just plain under perform , and the team is cheap if they don't front load the contract

here's an idea, stay out of trouble, work hard, perform and get paid

I meant what I said about crucifying Revis Heist for our wins. Darrelle has voluntarily made it easier for the Jets to cut his salary. The guaranteed $20M over the last two years is no longer guaranteed. The accrued year of service is gone and the Jets can make him a RFA and pay him a fraction of what he would have gotten without the hold out. And let him hold out in this uncapped year. Next year when he comes crawling back he will count for a pittance against the cap so it will do more good. Then the next year either make him a RFA or pay him the $5M. The next year franchise him. With the Aso contract expireing and new labor deal the franchise tag will most likely cost less than the $15M Revis would have gotten.

So take all the money the Jets can save and use it to extend Cromartie, Holmes, Braylon, Mangold, and Harris. Those players will make the Jets an elite team. Kellen Clemens could make the pro bowl throwing to Holmes and Braylon. So take this chance that Revis has given the Jets and screw him to the wall and sign the other guys and the Jets will have a dynasty.

Haha! You know what I'm really struggling to comprehend? WTF this rant has to do with my post!

Two problems I'm hearing with Revis' deal are that it's going to bust the cap:scare: and that Revis is a greedy little bastard who can't be trusted with a huge signing bonus (I actually get that one). So while D'Brick is completely welcome to sign a deal that I personally do not think is a good one for the player (one man's non-greedy little bastard is another man's sucker), why -if the cap is such a concern- wouldn't the Jets give such a sweet, team-minded guy like Brick a large portion of his money up front in the form of bonuses that won't carry over into future caps? Seems to me that the cap is not the Jets most pressing concern.

Never said the Jets were villains. That's your strawman, not me. The team should certainly work to hammer out deals that our favorable to themselves. It's a business on both sides. But if the structure of Ferguson's contract is the norm, then I can see why guys like Leon and Revis would say no thank you. And as I pointed out in Leon's case, even if he did sign he never would've seen a dime of new money because of his injury. At least Brick gets to bank $1.6M if he suffers a compound fracture that the team determines is too much for him to recover from completely.

Revis injury concerns are greater than an OT's, too. A tackle is going to be able to come back from most injuries able to perform at nearly the same level. And even some diminishing of skills can be overcome with good technique. But if a lockdown CB suffers an injury that impacts his speed, he'll never see top level money again. Not sure why Revis is a villain here because he wants some real security in his contract, and not just some numbers out in the future that he may or may not ever see.

interesting breakdown of Jets season with revis and Jets season without him...

What is Darrelle Revis' Value to the New York Jets?

News by AccuScore

(13 Hours Ago) in Sports / Jets

How much is Darrelle Revis worth to the Jets? To find out, AccuScore simulated New York's season 10,000 times with and without the star cornberback suiting up for Gang Green.

NEW YORK JETS WIN LOSS DIV PLAYOFF PA

With Revis 8.8 7.2 36.0% 51.5% 16.7

Without Revis 8.1 7.9 26.2% 37.8% 18.0

IMPACT -0.7 0.7 -9.8% -13.7% 1.3

Obviously losing one of the best defensive players in the NFL would negatively impact any team. For a team like the Jets that considers itself a Super Bowl contender, his loss is huge. Without Revis they 0.7 fewer games, allow 1.3 more points per game, and are nearly 14% less likely to reach the playoffs.

WITH REVIS WIN LOSS DIV PLAYOFF

New England Patriots 9.1 6.9 43.2% 56.7%

New York Jets 8.8 7.2 36.0% 51.5%

Miami Dolphins 7.6 8.4 16.5% 26.0%

Buffalo Bills 6.1 9.9 4.3% 7.7%

WITHOUT REVIS WIN LOSS DIV PLAYOFF

New England Patriots 9.1 6.9 49.3% 60.3%

New York Jets 8.1 7.9 26.2% 37.8%

Miami Dolphins 7.6 8.4 19.0% 28.7%

Buffalo Bills 6.1 9.9 5.5% 9.0%

Losing Revis negatively impacts New York, and in turn positively impacts the rest of the AFC East. The Patriots odds of winning the division rise 6.1% while the gap between New York and Miami in the playoff race closes considerably.

NEW YORK JETS WITH REVIS WITHOUT DIFFERENCE

Baltimore 50.0% 43.7% -6.3%

New England 50.7% 48.2% -2.5%

@ Miami 45.1% 41.5% -3.6%

@ Buffalo 60.1% 57.0% -3.1%

Minnesota 42.2% 36.9% -5.3%

@ Denver 58.9% 56.9% -2.0%

Green Bay 57.3% 50.2% -7.1%

@ Detroit 67.3% 64.8% -2.5%

@ Cleveland 66.2% 61.3% -4.9%

Houston 66.3% 62.8% -3.5%

Cincinnati 50.2% 46.8% -3.4%

@ New England 39.0% 32.7% -6.3%

Miami 63.6% 59.1% -4.5%

@ Pittsburgh 37.4% 31.3% -6.1%

@ Chicago 56.3% 48.3% -8.0%

Buffalo 68.3% 70.2% +1.9%

TOTAL WINS 8.8 8.1 0.7

Looking at the game by game schedule, Revis makes the biggest difference against Baltimore, Green Bay, at New England, at Pittsburgh, and at Chicago. His absence also makes the Jets under 50% to win the first two games meaning a potential 2-0 start could flip to 0-2.

If the Jets were to win every game it is favored in by AccuScore with Revis their record would be a sparkling 11-4-1. Taking that same tact without Revis leaves them just 8-8 and out of the postseason. Needless to say, the Jets need to get their star player in camp and on the field.

here's a question why do people think Cromartie, Holmes, Braylon, Mangold and Harris will be "cheap" compared to Revis? All of these guys want to break the bank. 4 former first round picks. however many all-pro and Pro bowl honors between them.

None of these guys are gonna be bargains and half of em are 1 year rentals. Its not like Revis wants 10 mil and Cro will take 2.

Thats why overpaying Revis will hinder us from signing any of these guys. A team is more than 1 player.

I never said they will be cheap. Why do you keep putting into quotes things no one said but you?

Its because I think those players will be expensive to resign that I want to save money on the Revis contract. The Jets will need every penny to keep this roster together and Revis made that easier by removing the guarantee on his final two years.

Ask slats... he seems to think that $4m is an insignificant amount of cap money.

Edwards' and Holmes' combined cap number for this year is around $7.5m. They should be able to keep one of them (Holmes), unless they're looking for Aso money too.

Bruce, you and Bit know way more than I do about contracts etc. I can't even get into that conversation. But here's what's on my mind:

The Tigers brought in Pudge Rodriquez after stinking up the league. His reputation got us free agents that moved them to the postseason. So my question is, did Revis' stellar performance last year get us enough free agents whose contribution will be greater this year than Revis' will be? The Colts and Saints did ok without him.
