Could Sanchez's Success be the Final Nail in Idzik's Coffin?

This is all hindsight, he now has an offensive coach who might have an idea how to develop him. It sucks for us because we have rex. Wish Sanchez the best.

Also, I really liked what one of the reporters quoted him saying. SOmething like "being on the sideline the past year has put things into a different perspective  I've thrown the late interception, TD, I've been through it all." Something along the lines of that. After hearing that I kinda figured he'd do well last night. Good for him. Wish we could have a 300yd passing performance with 2TDs. That'll happen when Rex is gone.

if you combine two games under rex you could hit those numbers

Just don't tell that to all the new members of the Mark Sanchez Fan Club.

doesn't matter. when he hits 60% it will be "it's all the system, kelly dumbed down the offense for high percentage passes, blah blah blah"

all of this ignores one thing: if it was the system and such a thing is so easy to find success with, why the HELL aren't the jets ripping it off? rex is as stubborn as they come. as braylon edwards said: rex would rather lose rex's way than "admit" he was wrong and adapt to fit the personnel. rex ryan: tough guy

another interesting fact Mark had 2 fumbles last night, both were recovered by his team.

similar to 2009 Mark throwing would be INTS that would bounce off the DB's hands for no apparent reason

The only way the Mark Sanchez saga gets stranger? A Jets return

The only way the Mark Sanchez saga gets stranger? A Jets return

PHILADELPHIA — It hasn’t even been two full games, but Captain Buttfumble already looks like The One Who Got Away instead.

Imagine that.

As if it weren’t already a federal disaster area, the sight of Mark Sanchez leading the Eagles up and down the field Monday night in a 45-21 rout of the hapless Panthers had to feel like a little more salt in the open wound that is the Jets’ 2014 season.

The franchise punching bag in New York is playing like a franchise quarterback for Philadelphia, turning his first start since December 2012 into his second straight impressive performance in place of the injured Nick Foles.

Picking up where he left off in a victory over the Texans a week ago, Sanchez once again looked right at home in Chip Kelly’s fast-break offense while completing 20-of-37 passes for 332 yards and two touchdowns with — this is not a misprint — no interceptions.

Yes, in a prime-time matchup that featured former No. 1 overall pick (and NFL Rookie of the Year) Cam Newton, Sanchez was by far the best quarterback on the field.

Let that sink in for a moment, Jets fans.

“Sanchize” might have been used ironically while Sanchez was piling up interceptions in 2011 and 2012 and running into Brandon Moore’s backside, but the nickname is no joke in his stint with the Eagles.

With a quarterback-friendly scheme that plays to all of his strengths, Sanchez is looking like the guy who took the Jets to back-to-back AFC Championship games and beat Peyton Manning and Tom Brady on the road in successive playoff games.

Sanchez’s defenders when he was in New York — admittedly a group small enough to meet in a broom closet — always contended he was a victim of the terrible supporting cast the Jets gave him his final two seasons.

They had a point, too. Joe Montana would have struggled to do much with Chaz Schilens, Clyde Gates and Konrad Rueland as targets.

Weapons aren’t a concern in Philly, though, and Sanchez made full use of Rookie of the Year candidate Jordan Matthews, Jeremy Maclin and the rest of the Eagles’ scary array of targets once again.

Sanchez completed passes to eight different receivers Monday night, which is roughly the same number of competent receivers he had in five years combined with the Jets.

Sanchez said after his boffo relief effort last week that he considers the Eagles “a perfect fit” because Kelly’s offense is so balanced, so fast and doesn’t require a lot of thinking from the quarterback.

These aren’t the Brian Schottenheimer Jets that had Sanchez dropping back and not throwing enough on the run, where he excels. Nor is there a Tim Tebow sideshow to put seeds of doubt in his head.

As a result, Sanchez has flourished. He looked good even on plays Monday night that called for him to survey the field, connecting on throws of 33, 29 and 17 yards.

Sanchez looks so good, in fact, the locals are starting to wonder if Foles — who was inconsistent before his collarbone injury — can even get the starting job back after his expected return in two months.

Talk about a change of fortune.

About the only thing that could make this worse for Rex Ryan (the one who got Sanchez injured by playing him in the fourth quarter of a preseason game) and Jets GM John Idzik (the one who cut Sanchez last spring) is if he goes on to lead the Eagles to the Super Bowl.

Then again, Sanchez is a free agent after this season, and the Jets will likely be in the market for a starting quarterback again.

Stranger things than a Sanchez-Jets reunion happen all the time in the NFL. Like Sanchez reviving his career, for instance.

Sanchez is a smart kid. Begged Eagles not to ship him off to St. Louis with a reunion with Schottenheimer after Bradford went down. Good for him. He deserves this, and the Jets deserve to have to watch every minute of it for what they did to him.

Before everyone starts going crazy about how stupid the Jets are let's take a moment and step back.

The team the Eagles beat last night in not very good. As a matter of fact they are really bad right now. Bad enough that is won't surprise me if Rivera is not fired after the season.

That being said.

What I saw last night was a QB who wasn't panicking and backpedaling from the rush. He stood in there, moved a little left, moved a little right, stepped up and made the throw. He did well in the red zone last night, something the Eagles have had problems with all season. He was also inaccurate at times but hey we all can't be Peyton Manning.

I am not going to cast judgement yet based on one game. 4 of the Eagles next 5 are against Green Bay, Dallas twice and Seattle. I hope he does well and sticks it in all our faces the same way Pennington did in 2008.

Fair. Cannot pretend now I knew Sanchez was any good. It's 2 games.

Still clear that with the right offense he would have been better and that he is more of a pro than Smith will ever be. And it calls into question everyone who works for the Jets. Their judgment sucks, they have no idea how to scout, self scout nor draft, and do not have a clue when it comes to offense and QBs. Their big idea is the Wildcat.

Short answer-last night was a very big nail in Idzik's coffin.

Who's call was it to let Sanchez go?

this is the easiest question to answer in JN history

Who's call was it to let Sanchez go??  It was us......the fans

The uproar and furor that would have occurred if we kept Sanchez would have been legendary and the front office knew it.  Sanchez was toxic and they didn't want to be subjected to the backlash of the fans

its unfortunate but true......we must only look in the mirror to understand why Sanchez isn't here anymore......we ran him out of town

typo on the 3

what makes green bay such a fierce competitor ? Sure Rodgers will always give them a chance but that's got nothing to do with Sanchez is Philly's defense can't stop him.

No biggie.

Carolina couldn't sustain drives giving the ball back to Philly. I doubt GB has that problem. Sanchez will have to match Rodgers point for point.

One thing folks are overlooking is that there isn't any film on Sanchez in the Eagles offense. Defenses don't really know his tendencies and where he likes to go with the ball. Once some DC figures that out its not going to be as easy. I saw some risky passes last night that could have gone back for 6 with the right DB.

This notion that Chip Kelly has done some kind of major overhaul on Mark is nauseating.  Sanchez has probably gotten little to no snaps with the first offense until last week yet we're to believe he's gotten better via osmosis?

guys it's not hard to figure out..  he has more time in the pocket and better receivers.  helllooo..

Oh look, it's another not-so-subtle "let's shift the blame away from Rex" thread.

Sanchez would still be buttfumbling if he were playing for Rex. If anything, it just goes to show he's incapable of developing a QB, and that players who supposedly "suck" under Rex, may actually be quite talented when given the chance to play under a competent HC.

Then you just missed the perfect rant by Cowherd on ESPN over Rex's coaching style and why Mark is suceeding in Philadelphia.

One "Butt Fumble" does not define a career, coching and player development does.

Pac the no huddle run correctly does not allow a defense to get set they have to adjust on the fly sometimes with the wrong personnel/ I was screaming for the Jets to put Mark in the no huddle because in real game situations when he ran it He actually ran it well. Shotty could not handle that because the Idiot had a hard enough time getting the plays in to begin with. Sanchez has always done well in the no huddle and its my guess he will continue too. Key to running a good no huddle is once you get it rolling all you have to do is find the mismatches and that's what Kelly does the Jets have never had an offensive mind like that and neither has Sanchez.

All that being said I'm getting a little sick of listening to guys like Trent Dilfer claim any QB could succeed in this Chip Kelly offense because that's just not true. Even Suzy Kolber nailed Dilfer when he made that statement ...She said "So maybe you can come out of retirement now" BOOM   loved that.

Let's compare the average QB ratings of quarterbacks playing for Chip Kelly versus the ones playing for Rex Ryan. That'll be fun.

Ready to believe that Sanchez is still capable of screwing the pooch. But it's undeniable if you limit his thought process a bit and simplify things like the no huddle or roll him out and make the field smaller(an observation Revis gave Schitty and was ignored as per "Crossers") he's better than if you fill him with some full 30 second clock complicated play call and allow the defense to get set. Some coaches set their players up to do as well as they can given their abilities, and others try to shoehorn everyone into their system. And Ryan basically only wants his offense to not turn the ball over and run the clock . He's his father's son, and the defense first mindset is death to scoring points. At this point even Steve Young, who badmouths nobody, is saying it. It's one thing to  have a good defense, quite another to think you can win with that alone. And the message you send to the offense and the QB is really that you don't matter other than not effing up.

Yup like braylon said rex would rather lose his way than win someone else's way--he is a sociopath

It was dumb Jet nation fan pressure that let him go. That's all it was. Let's not forget jet nations impatience

The same fan base that preached patience in giving geno more time so we could evaluate him when even ray charles could see he didnt have it? Fan base been overly patient. Time for rex to be old yeller'd

Cowherd's one of the few in the sports media who tells it like it is when it comes to Rex. The rest of them (particularly the NY beat writers) just shill for him because having him around makes their jobs writing columns that much easier.

Kelly runs his practices differently than most.  They run full speed no huddle.  Because they get in so many plays, everyone gets snaps with the first team.  The thought process is that everyone will be ready to play when their number is called.
