There is WAY Too Much Talking Going On!

Rex's fault.  This is the aftermath.  It's going to take a while before Bowles breaks these fools.

Remember Ricky Bobby's children? Remember how long it took for his mom to break her grandchildren of their potty mouth and overall disrespect to elders and authority?  Its like that but 300lb men, so its a lengthy process.  Luckily, he's got all summer.

This was a great analogy. Ricky's mom was successful. Turned those little snots into Choir Boys, literally.

I think Bowles will be just like grandma Bobby.

I really don't think it's a big deal. Cro seems excited about being back here, excited about playing across from Revis, and all he really did was contribute to the ALREADY established dialogued about who the best CB is. Sherman actually started that dialogue, not Revis, not Cro. Cro just gave his $.02, advocating for his own ******* teammate. I'm glad our guys have each others back, chemistry is important.

Kellen Winslow coming at Cro on twitter is laughable. The dude was a walking, talking joke on the football field and off of it. The problem isn't Cromartie, the problem is the idiot that got caught jerking off at target, and is desperate for relevancy.

I have no problem with what Sheldon said either. He's got his partner's back. Obviously Sheldon has no actualy influence on the contract negotiations, so it's really just him advocating for his teammate. Chemistry.

I expect this from players here and there. I'm not a huge fan of it, hated it when Rex did it, and expect that if/when it becomes a distraction it'll be stifled by the coach.

All I think is going on right now is that the reactionary fans that always clamor for the opposite of what we just had, are dying to see the "disciplinarian" coach do what the "clown" coach never used to.

Excellent post.  Sheldon didn't say anything stupid but the reporters made it appear worse than it was.  Cro is Cro.  Probably the worst of the bunch was Colon's comments but I do believe he knows he messed up and tried to make things right behind closed doors.  The bottom line is NY is just a unique market dominated by tabloid news. No other NFL city really has that type of sports coverage IMO.  Things just develop a life of their own here...

LOL at everyone getting antsy over the banter.  Which Jet hit and run a family and sent them to the hospital?  Which Jet committed three cold blooded murders?  Which Jet cheated for years and then lied about it to the world?

Carry on Cro.

First we had Willie Colon flapping his gums, then Cromartie calls out Sherman, now we got Richardson declaring he is the best and he and Mo should get Suh Money, Milliner talking about how he doesn't suck and the latest is Cromartie and freaking Winslow are getting into on Twitter??  It is only June; I can only imagine once the season starts!!

Coach Bowles needs to step in and take charge of this RIGHT NOW.  It getting completely out of hand.

Bottom line is just SHUT YOUR MOUTH AND DO YOUR JOB.

bring back rex

You guys really think Rex created the talking by players? You think these players didn't talk sh*t before he got here? Trash-talking has always been existent in sports.

I don't, but some people around here do believe that to be the case.

The spin control arm of the Ilk must be working 24/7.  Trying to come up with a way of turning this into Residual Rex has to be exhausting.

I don't envy the job they have at hand.

its ok, tax season just ended, they have hours to burn

Todd Bowles cautions Jets to be 'smart' with comments, tweets

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Under the bombastic Rex Ryan, who once guaranteed a Super Bowl, the New York Jets had no problem making bold predictions.   Ryan's successor, the reserved Todd Bowles, wants no part of the trash-talking scene.

"Obviously, we don't want a whole team that gossips and hasn't done anything," Bowles said Thursday at the conclusion of a three-day minicamp.

"I don't want them to be robots, but they have to be smart about it. It's the players' prerogative, but they have to understand, if the coach isn't happy [with them] doing certain things, they're going to have to cut it short."
Todd Bowles

Problem is, the Jets' locker room is filled with colorful personalities and Bowles is learning quickly that it's difficult to keep their mouths (and Twitter thumbs) in check.

In recent days, cornerback Antonio Cromartie criticized Seattle Seahawkscornerback Richard Sherman in a radio interview and engaged in an insult-laden Twitter exchange with former teammate Kellen Winslow Jr.

Guard Willie Colon made headlines with unflattering comments about quarterback Geno Smith, saying in a radio interview, "We bought the Porsche, we've given him the keys, he can't crash it."

As a result, Bowles has performed damage control, acknowledging he has lectured the team on the pitfalls of social media.

"I don't want them to be robots, but they have to be smart about it," he said, adding: "It's the players' prerogative, but they have to understand, if the coach isn't happy [with them] doing certain things, they're going to have to cut it short."

The Jets are experiencing a culture change, which often occurs when a team has a new coach. For six years, Ryan created back-page headlines with his outlandish statements -- and some of his players followed his lead.

Bowles, a Bill Parcells disciple, is quick with a smile and he likes to keep it light at the appropriate times, but he prefers a buttoned-down approach.

"Rex did things his own way, which was great," Bowles said. "I do things my own way, which is great. I have to make sure I stay true to who I am and make sure guys see that and they can relate to that."

The difference between the two coaches was evident in Thursday's news conference.

Asked about his loaded defense, which includes eight former first-round picks, Bowles tempered expectations, saying, "Name-wise and paper-wise, we have a lot of players that can play, but they have to learn to play together."

Ryan never missed a chance to pounce on that question, always predicting a top-five defense. It became an annual rite of the preseason. For the record, they were a top-eight defense in five of his six seasons.

The Jets have a bunch of strong personalities, including Colon, Cromartie and defensive end Sheldon Richardson, who this week told the New York Daily Newsthat teammate Muhammad Wilkerson deserves a $100 million contract.

In the offseason, they added Brandon Marshall, the talented, but sometimes controversial wide receiver. Marshall has a national forum, as he will continue in his role as a regular on Showtime's "Inside the NFL."

"I would never police them and tell somebody what to say," Bowles said. "But you have to know what kind of situation you're in and when you say those things."

Bowles' philosophy is: If you don't have something good to say about a teammate, don't say anything. Colon apparently got the message. Hebacktracked on his comments about Smith, saying he "misspoke."

On Thursday, Cromartie drew a crowd of reporters at his locker, everyone wanting him to elaborate on his Twitter war with Winslow, who played with the Jets in 2013. Cromartie said he was limiting his comments to the 2015 Jets.

"I'm just here," he said, smiling, "so I don't get fined."

I am liking Bowles more and more....

Said nothing with Parcells as the HC

They talked some under Herm but not more than other teams.

Said nothing under Mangini.

Became full blown orators under Rex

I guess the folks who said that there was no difference between the approach of Bowles and Rex weren't quite right.

KJ talked trash about Wayne.. :animal0029:

Well....he wrote a book about it which technically isn't "talking"

Parcells always had his Giants teams on the straight and narrow too....no out of control drug addicts or anything.  That's what made them so good.

Belichick would never allow this to happen, right? Wait a minute, he's perfectly OK with Rob Gronkowski and Edelman acting like assholes during the off-season. Why does he allow for them to party as much as they do?

Maybe because its the offseason and Belichick isnt their daddy? Not that I mind what the Jet players are doing anyway, its entertainment to me. It helps during the offseason.

Except after one mini camp Bowles has told them to stop.

So he gets credit for doing in 3 days what Rex didn't do in 6 seasons.
