Nick Folk: “You just have to move on to the next kick”

It was a tough day on Sunday for the NY Jets. When you lose a game by one point it stings. When you lose by one point and you miss a short field goal and an extra point, it makes it tougher.
Nick Folk explained the thought process that he goes through after you miss an extra point.

You just have to move on to the next one. You just have to move on to the next kick. We made the next three field goals, whatever it was. You just have to put it behind you and start a new streak. That’s all you can do.

You just have to keep moving on and keep working. I left a lot of opportunities out there. I feel pretty bad about it, but we have to move on. We have a game in four days.

It was windy at Metlife but Nick Folk wouldn’t use that as an excuse.

That end (had) a wind that we hadn’t had here in a long time. Most of the time it’s a little bit less than that, especially at the end zones.

It was pretty tough on that one end – on my extra point end and where Nug (Mike Nugent) missed the 52 (yard field goal). It was just a tough wind all day. It was kind of blowing pretty hard into (you) and left to right, which is tough wind for a right-footed kicker, but I still need to make all those kicks.

Folk also told the media that he takes the loss on his shoulders.

I feel like I let the team down. If we make the extra point and the field goal, they need a touchdown at the end. That would have put us up six, so it’s just frustrating from my end, but we have a game in four days so we have to bounce back pretty quick.

When your kicker is in his 10th season and he has made over 80% of his kicks it is best for everyone to move on to the next kick.

The Jets have a lot to fix, but the Buffalo Bills game is on Thursday night. So the next kick will come sooner this week.

I think his longest was 45 yards which isn't a chip shot. He doesn't get the F- and calls to kick him off the team that some of our consistently front running posters were shouting about after he blew the 4 points. And winds at Met Life is a legit issue.  I'd give him a C.

Nobody cares what grade you give him.

If we had won the game nobody would even remember it. If it wasn't a factor. But I've seen Folk kick great just to miss an easy attempt later in the same game. This time he missed the kicks early.

He didn't win the game. So: irrelevant.

According to Mike Westoff the new punter is his holder now and they aren't in sync in his ball placement..

you know when we first signed Folk he came to us recovering from a Thigh Injury and he was very shaky at first. Once he worked his way out of it he was lights out for a while. Now he had another thigh Injury and he seems to have reverted back to that shaky kicker we first signed. All I have to say is he better get his sh*t together quick or he will find himself out of a job.

The question I have is why does the punter have to be the holder. I'd prefer someone else who could make a play if called upon like the old days when a backup Qb was usually the holder.

Considering he was not far from being a cap casualty before the season began (saved, of course, by lousy performances by his competition), this was an awful way for him to begin the season.  It's not like he was dealing with winter weather or terrible swirling winds.  I think he'll bounce back, but if he doesn't, he heads to the kicker scrap heap.

I agree the best guy that the kicker feels the most confident with should be his holder..

The holder looked shaky yesterday to me.

Stop with the excuses for Folk. He missed an extra point & linedrived a short FG. He lost a close game all by himself. 4 points, Jets win. He's missed a lot of last second long kicks to vs the Pats. Sure they were long, 50 yards.

They brought in competition for a reason. He said it, "I let the team down". You guys can look for a myriad of reason why we lost to a very good team but Folk answered the question for all of you.

Hes NUMERO UNO!

No excuse maker here the holder seemed to never place the ball down in time and looked shaky to me all game. Folk yes he gets the blame is Ross Martin still available.

And according to Westoff where the holder placed the ball caused Folk to kick a line drive that was blocked.. But no doubt the missed extra point plus the FG caused the loss..

Does anyone else think it's funny that he misses the first PAT in his ENTIRE CAREER, and people want to cut him?

Holy Hot Takes, Batman!

I could care less about his 'career'.  His kicking or lack there of were a huge factor in the loss of a close game.  If he had another shi* game he can start feeling some true pressure.  There are tons of kickers out there.

Missing a kick in the first quarter should never be blamed for losing a game.  That's just silly.

Also, if you have a kicker who's pretty good - it's very likely that the replacement will be A LOT WORSE.  Who do we want instead, that dude from preseason who also missed a PAT, as well as a short FG?

Yes, I'd like to pick up Gostkowski if he gets cut by the Pats.  But the kickers that are clearly better than Folk (or even equal to him) are not available.

All kickers miss a few kicks during the course of the year.  If it's not in the 4th Q at the end of the game, there's no point in whining about it.
