Joe Mixon - RB -  Player

Oklahoma RB Joe Mixon allegedly punched a female while in high school.

The allegation comes from Anthony Hernandez, who says for a "fact" that Mixon hit his daughter when the two were in high school. "He threw my daughter to the ground and hit her," Hernandez said. "I went to the school and they hid him in the office. He got no punishment. The police even came. I was escorted off the campus as if I did something wrong. These are simply the facts, he's a woman beater." Longtime personnel man Gil Brandt said this incident is of concern among NFL teams, in addition to the video of Mixon laying out a girl with a punch while at Oklahoma. Mixon could be drafted anywhere from Day 2 to being an UDFA.

Lael Collins, Laremey Tunsil

Teams will check it out in more depth and he will get drafted.  The latest bit seems short on proof and details so far.

Even if he does not get drafted he will get picked up as an UDFA and be a steal, one way or the other talent always trumps for the NFL

Some one will draft him somewhere in the draft.  The whole incident will cost him millions though.  I try not to be to judgmental on these "domestic" incidents.  Usually they are two people who are drunk, involved in a very volatile relationship,  both of them being aggressive, and violent, and bang, woman gets slugged.  Not good, but really isn't damming.

The tape I saw of him slugging that gal was pretty methodical.  He wasn't really upset, or threatened, he just figured that was a good thing to do.

I'd stay away from him

The timing and sudden announcement - a week before the draft - that this comes out is what's intriguing; a new draft trend to "sabotage" a player so he falls.

Yup. I would have no problems drafting Mixon, but knowing the Jets they will pass on him because they are more afraid of the media than concerned about winning.

IF, the accusation is true,a lot of them aren't, dad may be really pissed that this guy beat the crap out of his daughter, and because he was a star got away with it.  I would be.

This is the best way to pay him back

Personal sentiment aside, the POINT is the timing and suddenness. First time I ever heard about it and you would think this supposed "incident" would have been brought up earlier when that tape of him finally came in Sept 16.

In an era where mediocre FA players get substantial sums of money, draft picks are very valuable.  If Mixon has another incident, the NFL would likely throw the book at him.  So my guess is that he gets drafted relatively low, or not at all and signed.

But stepping back for a minute...he slugged a girl in HS, he slugged a woman as a freshman in college...several years have gone by, and who has he slugged?  Oklahoma has a real football program, and my guess is that he has been in therapy and under tight supervision since then.  He will need the same in the NFL. He has/had an issue, but they appear to be managing it.   There are plenty of other players in the NFL who have had issues that have been remediated.   One could argue that Mixon's issue is easier to manage than a substance one which basically requries someone to fight their altered brain chemistry every day.

So the issues are PR in having him on your team, and the risk a team spends resources and he is suspended.  We will see.

The Jets could use him for the future.  Sign him up and have him spend his free time volunteering at a Woman's Shelter.

Am I misremembering things or did Collins go undrafted?

Like anyone gives a ****.

And this is he said she said.  All that matters is he's uber talented.  Still no later than a 2nd round pick IMO.

Ya I agree. This story can't be true bc he runs a 4.4 and Matt Miller says he has good vision

Yes he went undrafted, mainly because of the story that came out just before the draft that he was at the time cleared of any wrong doing at all.

Yep, but the suspicion was over the shooting death of a pregnant woman who he was banging.   Certainly a bit different then bopping a gal in a restaurant.

Unverifiable hearsay.

Some team is going to get a potentially very good running back for a very cheap pricetag.

The entire Mixon "scandal" is such PC tripe tbqh.  He could have punched a dozen guys and knocked them all out cold, no worries, he's in the NFL in round 1 next week.

Hits one girl, bam, lifelong pariah.

In a society where we supposedly believe in gender equality.  We clearly don't, and we clearly have a double standard.

The NFL had guys who did vastly worse and took far less heat.  Is hitting girls good, obviously not, neither is decking dudes either for that matter.

Should it make the guy be a lifelong pariah, to be shunned forever?  Nope.

I hope we draft him.  In the 5th.  I love a good cost/benefit deal.  I don't think he'll ever punch another girl, so the risk, IMO, is nill.

and if he did screw up again, we just cut him and move on. It's not like he was a serial killer like who the Patriots drafted and extended.

Oh man. **** those bitches then

When you're in this company, he could hit a bitch at the draft party and he's still going 2nd round:

2. Leonard Fournette, LSU (2017)
3. Dalvin Cook, Florida State (2017)

That seems very scientific. I'm assuming the algorithm takes into account 1. YPC, 2. 20-yard shuttle, and 3. MMQB is an intellectual desert and Peter King needs clicks.

6th best running back in 3 years?  Holy sh*t!  I had no idea!

I think he is probably a scumbag.  I have been saying it.  I don't see this as hurting his stock much.  I'm pretty sure that teams already knew this and the press is just reporting because the draft is coming up.   If there were any real meat to this, there would be a court case.  I think he will probably get drafted in the 2nd - 4th round range.

the father posted this on facebook a long time ago and later recanted.  Of course that doesn't mean it didn't happen.  In fact, I'd bet that it did.  Mixon is a bad seed.  No want. He'll only bring problems to the the team, himself and anyone near him.

As the draft approaches, one of the most controversial prospect has a second past incident bubbling to the surface. However, the man who alleged that his daughter was struck by Joe Mixon in high school has since reversed course.

In a report read by the lawyer for the woman struck by Mixon in 2014 during her interview with police, Anthony Hernandez said, “I know for a fact he threw my daughter to the ground and hit her.” Hernandez, who made the claim originally on Facebook, thereafter recanted his claims with another Facebook post.

On March 30, 2017, Hernandez forwarded the text of the clarification to Mixon’s lawyer, Blake Johnson of Crowe & Dunlevy. On Wednesday morning, Blake Johnson forwarded the clarification to PFT.

“I have recently learned that a comment I made about Joe Mixon on social media a few years ago is now receiving a lot of attention. I want to explain that comment and clarify that I do not believe Joe ever did anything to hurt my daughter,” Hernandez wrote.

“My daughter went to Freedom High School with Joe, and they have been friends for much of their lives. Once, when they were in school together, my daughter had a minor disagreement with some of her classmates that got blown out of proportion. Like any father would, I reacted emotionally. Unfortunately, I did so before I had all the facts. Now, having talked to my daughter and investigated the whole story, I realize that I was mistaken about Joe’s involvement. I definitely overreacted, and I regret that my words might have given some people the wrong impression about Joe. I know that Joe did not hurt my daughter, did not intend to, and would not do so.

“Joe and my daughter are still good friends. Joe is a great kid with a bright future in front of him, and he is welcome in my home anytime.

“My family and I value our privacy. I hope that my statement puts this matter to rest. We will not respond to further media inquiries about this.”

Blake Johnson also told PFT that he “spoke to multiple administrative officials at Freedom High School who assured me that no such incident ever took place there,” and that Mixon’s disciplinary record from high school reveals no such incident.

“Norman Police also ran Joe’s juvenile record with law enforcement in California and they had no record of any such report or incident (or any other criminal incident on part of Joe),” Johnson said via email. “I’m fairly confident that the incident described in Mr. Hernandez’s original [Facebook] post did not happen.”

no thanks.  It's not like Mixon is anything that unique.  Very good RBs are easy to acquire, and 99% of them are good human beings.  Why bring this headache in to the Jets when it won't be so hard to find good talent at that position?   F-ck Mixon.

If it's not so hard then why the **** haven't the Jets had a game changer at RB since forever?

That's an unrelated question.  Obviously because of the inferior personnel decision making in the Jets front office.  But I stand by my point.  There is no need to bring this anal wart of a human being into Florham Park.  None.
