Problem is the QBs available after Lawrence don’t look like a sure thing at number 2 overall. We have a huge talent deficit so starting fixing the o line, receivers, secondary and pass rush this year and hope Darnold is at least a good to above average qb But if we draft a Fields or Wilson at number 2 with this bad team and they never amount to anything better than what Darnold is, we’ve wasted another 3-4 yrs trying to develop a mediocre QB on a bad team. I think it depends on whether or not Joe Douglas agrees with you on the QB's after Trevor Lawrence. He might love Fields, or Lance, or Wilson, etc. We don't know. If he likes another QB in this draft not named Trevor, he has to take him at 2 in my opinion.

Let's see... traded for Patrick Ramsey drafted Kellen Clemens drafted Erik Ainge traded for 39 yr old Brett Favre who didn't want to be here (and still arguably his best QB transaction) drafted Mark Sanchez signed 40 yr old Mark Brunell to be a rostered QBC, ensuring Sanchez couldn't get benched gave Mark Sanchez an extension traded for Tim Tebow signed Drew Stanton, and then (still in March) traded him like a week later drafted Greg McElroy So yes, we should seriously listen to this man's QB advice. 2 1

Why throw another rookie onto a team that isn't built soundly? It's not even about Darnold. If we get lucky and he turns it around that's just a bonus. There will? Hasn't been my experience, but OK.

Especially considering the QB looked a helluva lot better the 2nd half of his rookie year then the past 2 yrs. Why does the QB looked damn good the first series of each game to then regress as the game goes on? Yes, he deserves some blame but why does this happen practically each game the past 2 yrs? Because its not an either/or. It's both. You don't end up with the # 2 pick without having bad QB play. Both Gase and Darnold suck. Who sucks worse is irrelevant. They're both awful at their jobs.
jgb
We have spent the last 3 years kicking Macc’s ass for foregoing QBs when we didn’t have a FQB. Now we want JD to try the same old strategy? Seriously? This is one of those too-clever-by-half takes.

Can't wait He doesn't need to be fixed. The coaching does. The receivers, the guards do though. Cowher also said yesterday they need to bring Sam back, and pick up his option. peekskill68
Really the only debatable point you can have for staying with Darnold in 2021 is Gase totally effed him up...

The best part about all of these is that you can go back and find tons of posts from the early days of the Haute Take Boiz telling all of us about how all these moves were awesome when they happened.

Imagine having the emotional security of knowing that you were replaced by the likes of John Idzik & Mike Maccagnan. That's enough validation that you could retire early and feel good about what you've accomplished in life. His firing is what started the mess we are currently in. I defend woody all the time but that was his worst move. He never should have been fired.
