Claymation
1. NEW YORK JETS The Jets have a fearsome defensive line, even with a couple of offseason departures in the form of John Franklin-Myers and Bryce Huff. Those were offset at least in part by acquiring Haason Reddick, and could be entirely eclipsed if Jermaine Johnson and Will McDonald IV take steps forward. Quinnen Williams is one of the best and most disruptive defensive linemen in the game, making the Jets as good as it gets on the defensive line. https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-2024-defensive-line-rankings-new-york-jets

OtherwiseHappyinLife
This board is more emotional than the one on ‘man’opause. The Jets are talented, accept it! We do need some luck on the injury front and our (often rigid) coaches to cook up a nice weekly ‘special’ based on who’s coming to dinner. I have my doubts until it happens but prefer not to spew negative where there are clear positives .. aka - a talented roster that is much much better than in the past decade plus. Heading back over to the manopause board for some breathing tips and how to avoid night sweats as I turn 50.

Here is Crosby's page: https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/C/CrosMa00.htm Crosby is great. No argument. But the Raider defense overall is league average in most categories. Edit: I discovered that PFF makes up their own Pressures metric and it tends to be much higher than the leagues because they inflate the hurries part of it. Interesting that since PFF fired MIA fan PFF George the Jets are suddenly getting credit in some areas. Hence why I generally ignore them.

FootballLove
in 2023, Jets Dline was top 3 in pressures, QB hits, TFL, and yards while also blitzing the 2nd fewest times (Bills). We get 'er done with our front 4. I recall one time last season Quinnen went OFF on Ulbrich for calling a blitz. Pride.

Raiders defense when Antonio pierce took over was top two defense till the end of the season. Raiders defense went to another level when they added Cb Jack Jones - had two most impressive interceptions last year. Malcolm Koonce always could rush the passer , he just was in Josh Mcdaniels dog house. Josh didn’t like him go all out in practice - he’s offense mind and never like the defense to make his Qb or offense look bad . Malcolm Koonce took his game to a different level under Ap . He going to be star this year .( contract year). Him abusing R Slater . J Gruden once threaten MAXX Crosby( rookie) he was going to cut him if he knocked down another Carr pass( offense coaches are very protective of their baby . It was no accident the Raiders defense kicked Patrick Mahomes ass -they beat the CHIEFS IN ARROWHEAD. ( Andy Reid credits the Raiders defense for them going on their run last year . The chiefs couldn’t block the Raiders front four. ( Kelce they had to keep in to try chip Koonce or Crosby). Antonio pierce put no restrictions on the defense . It’s young defense everywhere and only going to get with more time. We both can have our opinions whose defense or defense line is going to be better in 2024. It doesn’t mean much except what they do on the field. I will let their play prove my point., This defense and most of the defense been working out together by themselves since February. They want to be the best defense in football this year. Your top defense end been missing and busy wearing a skirt in Japan.

rangerous
I don’t see how the dline can be ranked number one considering the players they lost and the ones they added. Sure Reddick is supposed to be an upgrade from Huff but he has yet to practice with the team. Qwill is very good and Johnson is also becoming very good. But that still leaves positions unaccounted for. The jets also rotate the dline quite a bit so how are these rotational players going to be? I think if the dline is going to be ranked so high then credit needs to be given to the scheme and how Ulbrich uses the players.

Sourpusses about 90% correct, sunshine squaders about 10 % correct. Do something of note and you earn trust, utterly fail for 15 years and you have totally earned disdain and distrust. They’ve sucked but the reality is an independent thinker has to be able to put away the emotion of this sucking and evaluate the current roster and its prospects based on standalone merits .. not the past. 1. Before saying well Woody is the common denominator, the fact is that the Jets made back to back AFC Championship games under Woody within the last 15 years. 2. Ok, then your argument becomes JD cannot put together a roster. Name 10 more talented rosters than this (with a straight face). 3. Assuming that you won’t be able to (understandably so), you’re argument then shifts backwards to JD’s win percentage .. Context is important. Most NFL observers would argue JD had a 3 year rebuild starting with his first draft and free agency (2020). That would mean that the Jets should have been a playoff team in 2023. He failed here, even after seemingly pivoting from his Zach mistake (a mistake many GMs would have made .. or do we need to pull their assessments again?). Rodgers got hurt 4 plays in, the OL was decimated with injuries and JD’s brain fart to ride Zach once again backfired spectacularly. IMO, JD deserves an F for 2023. A credible backup QB and more OL/WR depth gets that roster to 10 wins and the playoffs. 4. Soooo, did JD learn from his mistakes and shore up the backup QB, entire OL, WR #2-3 .. all without mortgaging the future? —————————————- To me, the past 12-13 years is noise and #4 becomes the critical 2024 question. We are 1 full year behind schedule, no doubt about that. Unfortunately, neither the 2021 or 2022 drafts outside the vastly overrated and overpaid Trevor Lawrence cultivated franchise QBs .. for any team. More factual context. As a closing argument ;), we enter the year with a legitimate chance of winning the AFC East. Outside of last year’s crash & burn (Rodgers game 1 injury), most independent minded people could not say that about the Jets since 2011.
