The $350,000,000 man

Sources told ESPN's Buster Olney that before Alex Rodriguez opted out of his contract with the Yankees earlier this week, the team was told that it would not be able to meet with the third baseman unless it presented an offer of at least $350 million.

The Yankees pretty apparently leaked news to Jon Heyman to make themselves look better after the Joe Torre affair. They could be doing the same thing here. Then again, the idea of a $350 million proposal for a meeting is so ridiculous that it just might be true. Olney also says within the article that sources have told him it is highly unlikely that the Dodgers will seriously entertain the possibility of signing A-Rod. Nov. 2 - 1:34 pm et

All they are trying to do is push the enevelope to see how far they can go.

They did the same thing with the Mets the first time he was a free agent looking for all those perks and they told him to take a hike.

I want to see what team out there is going to shell out that kind of coin. If they Yankees are not in the chase Boras is probably going to get laughed right out of alot of meetings.

The more the Yankees stand their ground the better they will stand to be. I don't even think there is a team out there right now that would give the same kind of deal A-Rod got from Texas.

Just sit back and wait.

No one is going to come close to that number, and Boras is going to be crying "collusion" eventually.

Probably, but I doubt anybody will jump on that bandwagon.

How happy must the Rangers be, getting out from under that last contract?

Look, if Arod and his agent are making him out to be superman with this outrageous demand, he MUST produce like superman in the post season. he puts all the pressure on himself with crap like this. good riddance. buh bye.

Did it occur to any of you that Arod just had no interest at all in playing for the Yankees and just threw that number out there so they would leave him the hell alone?

Who are you? and what are you doing in the baseball forum?

He made the same demands before when he left Seattle. he is what he is.

Agents do not just "throw out numbers" for the sake of doing that.

Boras has a reputation (insert any humor you want there), and this is big business for him. If he in fact mentioned teh number 350M to A-Rod, be damned sure that he will look to get in some manner. Even if it becomes a "creative" deal where he never even sees all that money.

Any player that is in it for the money (and appearances are that for A-Rod), does not take the New York Yankees out of the mix lightly.
