Chris (Mad Dog) Russo out at WFAN

You have completely lost creditablility with me!

It's his staff at both the syndicated radio show on Sundays & the "Miked-Up" show on Sunday nights that do most of the work for him.

On the "Mike & the Maddog" show, he was like a little boy who needed someone to back him up - ala Chris Russo. Hell, there had been days that they spent the whole 4-hours discussing films - on a SPORTS SHOW!!

Francesa's only reason for staying is that he was an original mainstay at WFAN, unlike Russo.

I don't believe he will succeed - at one point 20-years ago, his ratings were so low as a solo that they moved him to the 2:00AM-6:00AM slot for over a year!

Also, If Chris Russo is moving to Serius - It was a Mel Karmazin move, who owns both Serius/XM & WFAN...

Mel KARMAZIN doesn't own WFAN. He is the CEO of Sirius/XM.

Russo's job was to be an on air moron that would annoy people so much that they would call WFAN in waves.

Getting paid millions to be an assclown/moron? I'll take that job any day!

Sounds like your role here. Minus the getting paid millions part.

:rl:

For me at least this is a sad day.

I was one of Russo's final interns when he did weekend sports at WMCA and he was one of the nicest guys you could ever meet.

Say what you want, Mike and The Mad Dog have carved their place in New York Radio history

Best of luck to Chris.

Thanks Shawn. I have fond memories of your internship also.

I never had it like that before from a burly sexy guy..

Give me a call ;)

Serious question: Are mods actually paid?

Hard to answer. The short answer is no, they don't get paid. They do get a variable compensation plan depending on the success and health of the board. Some small bonuses, tickets, things like that not much.

All things considered they wouldn't make more than 5 grand each along with the other perks. Considering the work that they do, I consider them volunteers. They work very hard.

Thanks, Max. I appreciate the insight. I know virtually nothing of how message boards--and most other things in life, save for porn and mollusk mating habits--work.

Yeah that was weird.

I've listened to them for the past 10 years. That actually made me choke up!

I admit that I have listened to them for most of their 19 years, but that was more funny to me than sad. He just sounded weird. It is nice to hear Francesa actually not be a dick to the listeners though.

I could tolerate their baseball stuff....but that's about it. and even that went down hill.

The biggest issue was listening to them on Fridays before football games and all they were talking about was baseball. This is a great country though, where else could a guy with a speech impediment make millions by speaking! Speaking of which, who is that big bald guy guy on MSG (I think) that has a frigging lisp, christ it is disturbing to watch that effer.

Russo is on right now. He's not leaving because they don't get along. He's 48 and it's time for a little change.

Right. And the leaders of all those rock groups didn't fire the drummer, bass player, etc. They just left because "they were going in different directions musically".

Everybody in show business puts up a front about leaving because they want to keep the door open to get bring the guy back in case things don't work out without him. And the guy getting fired wants that too, because he doesn't know how his new job, if any, is ever going to work out.

Believe me, Russo got canned.
