but for me it's not just that-I mean in general now the way he sits on his throne up there in Jupiter and bloviates on all types of things, for me it's just getting old-it's like he's out there too much now or something-have you seen his Joe Namath TV stuff Tom?

I hear you there, Jimmy. I see him on Facebook with his comments on different stuff. He definitely comes off a bit pious at times.

bloviate seemed like the perfect word so I had to look up the meaning to make sure and it said this: To discourse at length in a pompous or boastful manner: I was right it was the perfect word for what I see him doing lately. Again, this coming from a guy who idolized Joe Namath when he was a kid-I find myself closing the links to his Joe Namath television stuff half way through them now...

Word. I love having Joe back out in front of this organization and I love the fact that he tells it like it is: It gives the organization some sorely-needed credibility. Plus, I'm still waiting for the first thing he says that isn't dead-nails true.

Joe is dead on the money. Hardknocks was a mistake.

whether is was or not Ed-what's done is done and for me I'm glad I got to see the inner workings of my Jets for once-I mean look what we went through for years under Mangini and Herm. Had we known what an idiot Herm really was like Kansas City did after THEIR Hard Knocks maybe we would have been rid of him sooner. Also, Joe wasn't so against it enough to not want to make his big appearance on it though was he?

What is done is done. But I think it is a mistake for any team to let Hard Knocks in. Most NFL players love a camera more than practice. And I am willing to bet dollars to donuts, there were plenty of incidents where the players were hamming it up for Hard Knocks. Not just this year, but each team that has been on the show. This based on my own personal experience in watching what happens around people when the cameras start to role. Pull a camcorder out an almost any event and half the folks start going goofy and hamming it up for the camera. Any effort players and coaches spent trying to look good on Hard Knocks is effort they didn't spend getting ready for the season. And even if that was only a small amount of effort, the difference in preparation for the season might be the difference between 12-10 win or 10-9 loss in a close game with 14 penalties.

UNlike a lot of other people around the boards I'm not ready to make that call yet. I can see this team as one that can do what say the Titans did last year and has the ability to tear off an 8 game winning streak and all of the doom and gloom will be long forgotten

The Titans played good ball last year and kinda snuck up on a few teams.

With all the off-season talking the Jets have done, they will sneak up on nobody. Ever Sunday teams will bring their A game when they play the Jets.

I am ready to make the call that Hard Knocks is a mistake. Mistake for the Jets this year, mistake for the Ravens, Bengals, Cowboys and Chiefs too. And a mistake for what ever team does it next year. If the Jets win the superbowl it will be in spite of not because of Hard Knocks. Its a needless distraction for a team. Good entertainment for the fans, but a waste of time and effort for the players and coaches as they prepare for the season.

Joe Namath says Hard Knocks was a mistake, Patriots are "stronger team" than Jets

Posted by Mike Florio on September 17, 2010 5:58 PM ET

In the debut of The Broadway Blitz on Sirius NFL Radio with Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Namath and Adam Schein, Schein asked Namath whether it was a mistake for the Jets to be the subject of this year's Hard Knocks.

"I think so," Namath said. "I think it is for any team that's going to work to do their best to get to be their best. It's what we call 'distractions.' You're going to spend more time away from thinking about your position, your job, and the details of it when you've got other things going on around you that you're partaking in. It has to be a distraction and you can't have spent as much time on your mental preparation and homework as you would have without the distractions. So, yeah, I don't think it was a positive."

Namath attributed the team's offensive struggles on Monday night to execution and not play-calling, and he thinks that quarterback Mark Sanchez was "harried" due to age and inexperience.

"Granted he played last season, but a second year quarterback is certainly not as wily as he is going to be in his fourth or fifth year having experienced a whole lot of things that he hasn't as of yet," Namath said. "The game will slow down to him. He's running a game at a faster pace, certainly in his head, than Tom Brady is running in his head as far as feeling the speed. Brady is thinking of more things than Mark Sanchez at a comfortable mode, a mode that he has practiced, rehearsed, and done again and again over the years of experience. Mark Sanchez, the only flaw he has is his age and his experience at this point."

Namath also believes that the Patriots are a "stronger team" at this point. "[T]hey are balanced on both sides of the ball," Namath explained. "The big question mark about the Patriots, other than [Wes] Welker's knee coming into the season offensively, was their young defense, so to speak. New England had a fortunate game last week and [were] able to create a couple of things to build up a fast lead, so school's still out a bit on their defense.

"I still have to see the Jets offense be able to put up some points because the defense is overworked out on that field. If Brady can keep the Jets defense out on that field anywhere close to what Baltimore did, they're going to be a tired bunch and the Patriots will outscore the Jets. For the Jets to win that game, they've got to play their best with the special teams scoring something as well."

It's a good thing that Namath led the Jets to their only Super Bowl title. Otherwise, plenty of Jets fans would conclude based on his attempt to objectively assess the team that he in fact "hates" them.

Joe needs a physic. Of course he will love a team that throws every down, but that doesn't usually work against good defense. I have little respect for Cincy since we basically mopped th floor with them two weeks running last year. Their secondary is sh*t. I am worried about our offense though.

I agree with this. Too many penalties. I suspect the crew had a little to do with it. Maybe the Jets somehow got on the wrong side of the officials with all this hoopla, I don't know? But they were very sloppy, and with 6 weeks to prepare for a known opponent, that is just unacceptable.

Ah, I remember most wanted Hard Knocks....I was totally against it and thought it was nothing but a distraction. All the teams who did the show their season was a total failure, besides the Bengals making the playoffs last year but we know how that turned out.

Its too late to talk about Hard Knocks being a distraction. Whether it was or not that's a different topic altogether.Nut its in the past. It's all about the here and now. And tomorrow we play the Pats. And i do not agree with Mr Namath. The Jets will win.

But have to respect Mr Namath for being frank, candid about his opinion. And saying it the way he sees it. Most other guys in his position would p*ssyfoot to the organisation and say all the politically correct things.

Nope, not on the wrong side, just that this is a crew that likes to throw the flag.

Analysis has been done on the officiating crews, and while there has been absolutely no evidence to suggest that the crews favor one team over another or that any one crew is inconstant. It is true that the officials are not completely consistent vs one another and that what one official will call holding another won't throw a flag for. Not bias for one team or another just that these ref sometimes call holding when other refs wouldn't regardless of the teams involved.

This crew happens to throw a lot of flags. The Ravens knew this and were extra careful. Jets knew this as well, yet still were sloppy.

Love Joe BUT if the media now was the media then he would have been run out of town. I am 63 I have watched the Jets since they were the Titans...Joe threw more stupid interceptions...he (at times) was horrendous!!!! He gave us our only Supre bowl win BUT he had Boozer and Snell two great JET backs AND Maynard and Sauer two great JET recievers AND Joe had Buddy Ryan with the Defense. Joe threw the ball through recievers when he first came up but he learned to correct that! Let Sanchez learn Joe! Don't jump off the bandwagon...HANG ON and enjoy the ride...WE WILL BE GREAT WITH REX LEADING THE WAY!!! Offense wins games DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS!!!! ALWAYS HAS ALWAYS WILL!!!

EXACTLY. Joe is spot on and anyone who doubts his love for this franchise would NOT be allowed to dine with Crusher.

He's as frustrated as we are because he's waiting for them to win another superbowl. I always say, "The last time the Jets won the superbowl I could eat free (age 5) at my favorite buffet." joe probably says, "Last time the Jets won a superbowl I could bang three broads in one night WITHOUT Viagra." Joe and I hurt inside and we are both struggling with our angst.

Either that or he's pissed Max took him off the banner,.

Hard Knocks is definitely the reason we lost.

It was because NFL Films was there with cameras that we couldn't move the ball on offense and couldn't get off the field on third downs. If Hard Knocks wasn't there, I'm certain we'd have scored at least 28 points. Hard Knocks definitely was responsible for those pass interference calls.

And really, who is Joe Namath to talk about 'distractions'?
