What's become abundantly clear is that the Jets have no semblance of an organizational plan regarding this new GM, and are going to hire "a" guy and hope that he fits. They don't know if they want a cap guy, a personnel guy, a Canadian, a retread, or a kid GM. They've done no self-assessment of their current staff and are keeping their fingers crossed that whoever comes in will magically pull all these disparate parts together to form a cohesive front office. They need to sit down and identify what they want their front office to do, exactly, and then go find THE guy that can get them there. Instead, like everything under Rex Ryan, they're going to plug somebody into a position and then act shocked when it doesn't work.

I will give some slack to the Jets right now- better to get a pool of candidates and assess pros and cons of each of them

You know that the Jets haven't done a self assessment how exactly?

This looks like a dog and pony show interviewing everyone in the NFL.

If I was Gamble, Id tell the Jets to take my name off your list.

There are only 32 of these jobs in the NFL and you're up for one of them, but you would have your name removed because the team is looking at all possibilities? Interesting.

Normally when you search for a candidate to fill a position in any capacity, there are certain skill sets that you are looking for, in order to compliment your organization.

In this case, the Jets just seem to want the quality of: Must have been associated with a football team one time or another.

I tend to agree. There's a lot of things to complain about when it comes to Woody but this is not one of them. This is the most important decision for the organization right now and people want to rush it? No thanks.

Yes, either Gambles body of work speaks for itself or it doesnt.

With only two other teams (Browns and Chiefs, likely to land Dorsey) without a GM the Jets have scheduled interviews with several candidates:
Seahawks vice president of football administration John Idzik:

Idzik is in his sixth season with the Seahawks. According to the team website, he oversees player negotiations, the team’s compliance with the salary cap, transactions, staff and team contracts, among other duties. Idzik entered the NFL in 1993 with the Bucs.

Source: Sun Sentinel/Omar Kelley
Pittsburgh Steelers director of football and business administration Omar Khan:

Khan, a general manager candidate in the past few years, has thrived in contract negotiations and salary cap navigation, two areas that the Jets desperately need to improve. Khan has been the Steelers’ chief contract negotiator for more than a decade.

These guys have to be the scariest. They may be very capable, but hiring a cap first guy, rather than a scout implies they may let Rex buy the groceries. If they are bringing one in, they had better have a strong scouting department and a willingness and power to say "NO" to Rex.

Former Cleveland Browns GM Tom Heckert canceled a scheduled interview because of concerns about the Jets salary cap situation.

Yes, the newcomer will have to do all of those things, including climbing over a massive roadblock named Ryan.

Carolina job better. Owner Richardson always hangs on to GMs/HCs longer that he should (see Marty Hurney, LOL ). Decent job security from a NFL POV.
And one other thing...Cam Newton ;)

The only cause for optimism is that Korn/Ferry interviewed like five million candidates for the Seattle job (where, like here, there was already an outspoken doofus of a head coach in place), including cap guys like Khan, and eventually came up with Schneider. Nothing wrong with casting a wide net.

That said, I do think it's a bad sign that we're opening any part of the search to bean-counters. The team needs a strong personnel hand, period. I said it last night: I'd gladly take any of the available candidates, up to and including Cohen, over a numbers guy like Khan or Idzik.

This is like having a cat with leukemia.

Agree...hated Kahn at first, then read an article posted in that thread. May be a good candidate

I hope you are kidding. Such fluff pieces are very common. Its the highlights package of a every draft pick. They all look so great in those youtube highlights!

Khan has expertise in cap et al. What the JETS need is a solid personnel guy.

With the names that emerged today, I finally feel like the search firm is doing more than reading who the other GM-less teams are talking to on twitter. LOL

Lol yeah same here. I feel like for all the searching they're doing all they are ending up with is a bunch of potential candidates. WTF??!!? Do they KNOW you can only hire one? Why are they interviewing MORE than one then?!!?

This franchise, I SPIT on it.

Wtf are you talking about? All I was saying was it's glad to see them casting a wider net than what fans say on twitter.

"Idz a process."
