Antwan Barnes signs with the Jets

This is most likely another cheap signing. Looking at his stats alone, it seems like he was a part time starter in 2011 and racked up 11 sacks, something NYJETS haven't seen since the John Abraham days. For that alone, its a great move. Nothing flashy, but excellent value pickup imo.

I definitely like this move and I'd be interested to see what it end up costing them.  Rex is obviously familiar with him from his days in Baltimore and if I'm not mistaken, the Jets even tried to make a run at him a couple of years back but lost out to the Chargers, so clearly he's a fan.  Definitely curious to see what the deal is.

I hope this means they aren't drafting Mingo.

While these reecnt signings obviously aren't all great solutions, I think the approach is trying to keep the team from being forced into a position of drafting simply for need by having any massive holes left on the team without anyone to fill them (which the Jets were essentially looking at having at OLB prior to this signing).  At this point it gives the team the freedom to go BPA (especially considering how many positions they have that, while filled, could be used to be upgraded), whoever that may be in their opinion.  Assuming Idzik knows what he's doing come the draft, that should be a positive sign.

If it happens this is another solid move to add some speed to the LB corps. Barnes ran a 4.43 at the combine way back in '07 and actually looks like a fast player on the field. He stood out to me as a rookie and is a player I've followed relatively close over the past few years. I thought for sure he would remain a Charger, but probably he wants to aid in the final fall of Rex for not giving him more PT in Baltimore.

Can they please just do use a favor and sign Victor Butler

I know he's a favorite sleeper on the internet but what's the difference between Butler and Barnes? Not even saying to not sign Butler, just curious. They seem like very similar players - mediocre against the run but capable of being interesting pass rushers. Butler's bigger, which is a major advantage.

He was a guy who had a couple of good games, but was a very inconsistent pass rusher. And that was in 2011.

Last year, even before his injury, he wasn't living up to that 2011 season.    He's a decent addition, nothing spectacular.   The Chargers let him go because they weren't expecting him to start.

Now i am worried. This guy jumps the gun so to say. Being a pass rushing specialist how many penalties can we expect.

When Joe Klecko retired and went to the Steelers as an DL cosultant, I think it was Joe Greene said “I don’t need anyone to show me how to jump off sides”

If a guy has a tendency to jump offsides, it is far off set, as long as he gets to the QB.

My problem with Barnes is, he only did it one season

If he had produced like that for more than one season, he would probably cost 4 times as much, and would be a Miami Dolphin.

I was being tongue in cheek.

I have not seen Barnes play. So i am not going to question his signing. But not sure how he is say an upgrade over Maybin ?

He had more sacks in 1 year than Maybin has had in his career.  He has actually played as a regular LB without getting steamrolled and he weighs more than 225 lbs.
