The strength of the Jets will come from backups

That's not necessarily the most encouraging thing to hear.

With the injury frequency these days not having good depth means a great team can turn into a struggling team in just a few injuries.

Some of today's backups will mature into tomorrow's starters so I can't imagine why you think that isn't encouraging.

This team is being built for 2 down players. Situational football at its finest. Big pass catchers vs small CB's. 4 DL sets. 4 LB sets. Petty had Amaro down the sideline. Should have been a big gainer against that smaller CB. Look for that play again.

The Q killing them in the middle of the field. Keeping teams honest for 15 and 87. Back up WR's who looked better than most of the starters on the 2012 -2014 teams. Geno with a strike for a TD. This looks like a well coached team that teams SEE on their schedule.

ST playing well. Rontez Miles had a huge block on that run back.

Anyone ever remember a Jets WR crew who looked this good?  Because I certainly dont.

The '68 /69 Super Bowl Namath season with Maynard & Sauer were an unbelievable 1-2 punch for their time.

Those '85 & '86 teams had pretty impressive starters across the board  (with Welsley Walker, Al Toon, as the 1 & 2 ... Then also Mickey Shuler TE, and Freeman McNeil, Johnny Hector both catching it well from the RB position) ... But certainly nowhere near this depth just at WR.

maybe that '98 team with Keyshaun, Chrebet, & Dedric Ward would be the best top 3 at WR I can think of being close but again, only 3 deep. ... We need Q or one of the young kids to step up and outplay Ward as WR #3

i'm with you top to bottom at just the WR spot this looks to be the strongest group we've ever fielded!

Sure it is. Golden State Warriors were so good last year because they had a great bench. You need solid back ups so you don't lose as much production when rotating starters

Yeah and I'm sure they didn't have the league MVP. You need solid starters before you ask for solid backups. I'm not saying our starters are bad. I'm just pointing out the flaw in the theory.

I honestly thought it would take a LOT longer and at the expense of the defense.

Brandon Marshall and Mohammad Wilkerson are no slouches

Good morning my darling.

She always brings a smile to my face.

You got that right. We need to give her a name.  I wonder if she knows what kind of Web phenomenon she has been on multiple Jets message boards and probably others too.

they have approximately 21 WR's that can play

The talent at WR is going to put pressure on other positions for roster spots. I could see them wanting to keep seven. Tough to do that and carry four QBs, three TEs, a FB, etc. Mac has done a good job restocking the roster quickly. They're gonna cut some good players this year.

If it wren't for Forte wanting to run behind a traditional FB, I'd say drop the FB to keep the 4th QB or  drop TE Davis.

Nice problems to have, but we need to keep Petty in case he's coming into his own and Geno because we need a veteran #2.

As the WR's go Anderson would be safe on PS but I doubt Peake would be.

Like I said, I was simply pointing out the flaw in the theory. Secondly, we haven't won a SB or have a player that can win two back to back league MVPs.

Lol but we have solid starters so what are you saying? A winning team has solid back ups and they are just as important as starters in that regard

I know there's some nice young talent at WR trying to make the team but I don't see that position as threatening Petty or the Jets deciding to go with 3 QBs instead of 4 to keep 7 WRs.

If you assume the top 3 are locks (B.Marshall, Decker, Enunwa), the next 3 are starting to separate themselves. Marshall, Peake and Ross. With Ross and Marshall also serving as return specialists. Unless we see someone else really break out (including Thompkins), these are your 6 WRs and the 7th is not really close. The Jets will probably try to get guys like Anderson, Worthy, Williams on PS.

If anything, D-line depth will put pressure on the Jets to re-consider keeping 4 QBs. The way I break down my 53, Jets only carry 5 D-linemen (Richardson, Wilk, Williams, Jenkins, McLendon). It would be very nice to have that extra D-lineman in case of injury. JMHO. Maybe a 'true' NT like Simon. Or Lawrence Thomas who's looked good in camp and in the game last night. Or a versatile DE like Catapano.

You compared solid backup position of the Warriors and I told you they weren't good cuz of the backups. And I've already told you I wasn't saying the Jets don't have good starters, because they do.

Having solid backups means absolutely nothing when your starters are average.
