Come on down Colts! Jets are in the sweet spot to get ahead of Carolina.

The math could work, but Colts would be giving up much of their draft. Pick# 6 is 1600 pts, Colts pick 15 is 1050 pts. Colts 2nd round pick is 440, and their 2 3rds , #121 and #137 would make it whole. Not bad for the Jets, but lots for Colts to give up, unless gave 2nd this year and conditional 2 or 3 next year.

This year's first and next year's first. Done.

This insider (Dave TE Thomas) was on a Giants board posting some info/tidbits he's been hearing from teams around the league (including the Jets) as it pertains to the draft. Take it for what it's worth though of course...

More Dave-Te' Thomas interview from the The Terrible Podcast
Been out of scouting for a while.  Wife passed after a battle with cancer.

Lots of trades, teams trying to move up to get the guy they want
Round 1, 2, and 3: GM should be spot-on, day 3 is the scouts' day
Cleveland has offered the 12, a 2nd and a 3rd to SF for the number 2 to grab Myles Garrett and Mitch Trubisky 1 and 2
Leonard Fournett: Cincinnati and Carolina trying to trade up to 2nd to grab Leonard Fournett before Jacksonville
Christian McCaffrey: If Carolina misses out Christian McCaffrey is the choice, won't get past Carolina, Sean Payton trying to move up

Top 2 players in the draft
1. Jamal Adams
2. Haason Reddick

Myles Garrett: over-rated
Jabril Peppers: For Steelers could be used the same way they used Polamalu
Donnell Pumphrey: next Darren Sproles, poor man's Christian McCaffrey
Joe Mixon: to Eagles or Raiders in the 2nd
Dalvin Cook: Eagles only team that has him on their board in the 1st
Samaje Perine: Higher on Samaje Perine than Joe Mixon
Corey Clement: good between tackles
Brian Hill: high on Hill

LBs
Ryan Anderson: would be great value, steal in the 3rd round.  Saban: Most consistant player on their defense
TJ Watt: could be better than JJ
Tyus Bowser: sleeper of the draft, could play on the edge and drop into coverage
Side note: Watt #2 and Bowser #3 in FootballOutsider's SackSEER ratings
http://www.footballoutsiders.com/nfl-draft/2017/sackseer-2017

Derek Rivers: Steelers high on Derek Rivers

Tak McKinley and Zach Cunningham: Any team taking either of these guys in round one are going to regret it.  Injury concerns for McKinley.  Cunningham, just an athlete not a football player.  Outside of the top 5 LBs, limited.

DL
Tanoh Kpassagnon: poor man's Ricahrd Seymour

EDGE
Samson Ebukam: this kid is a monster
Carl Lawson: "walking band-aid", IQ level low, referenced Wonderlic

QBs
2018 much better QB class, rival 1983 class
If Sam Darnold comes out, could be the third player to get a perfect grade: Other two John Elway and Bo Jackson
Pat Mahomes: Top rated QB, would rank 7th vs 2018 QBs
Josh Dobbs: Wildcard QB, other than Mahomes. "taller version of Russell Wilson".  Find someone better than Dobbs that can grasp a playbook.
People going to jump on QBs earlier than they should
3 QBs in round 1, possibly a late trade into the ending of the round (27-32)
Davis Webb: Wildcard for the first round, Kansas City a possibility

Top 5 CBs:
Gareon Conley: probably before the news
Quincy Wilson
Sleeper: Brian Allen
Marshon Lattimore: likes him except for the hamstring issues
Ahkello Witherspoon: solid number 1

Stay away from
Teez Tabor, Kevin King, Desmond King
Marlon Humphrey: Second coming of Dee Miliner

Tre'Davious White: steal in the 2nd
Sidney Jones: in the 3rd - stash on the PUP list
Jalen Myrick: 2nd day of draft
Rasul Douglas: in the 4th

Brian Allen moving up draft boards but probably a 3rd day guy, could slip into the last 3rd round
Could not stop mentioning this guy's name
Here is a little more information on this guy: 6'3" 215
Taken from NFL.com:  On the surface, Allen is nowhere near ready to play NFL football. He lacks smooth feet and hips in coverage, a feel for routes and is below average playing the deep ball. His issues as a tackler make it unlikely a team would trust him to move to safety. However, his elite size, speed and length are sure to garner attention and he does flash some potential as a bump-and-run corner. Allen could be a late-round pick who is stashed on a practice squad while a team tries to improve his technique.

Cordera Tankersley: All-pro in 3 years if a team switches him to FS.  Plays ball well but not a man guy.
Small School Prospect: Nicholas Morrow, Greenville, SS - more scouts on this guy in the last month
Obi Melifonwu: won't be there at 30, reminds him of Deone Bucannon, could play ILB
Jamal Adams: won't get past Chicago
Malik Hooker: will go next
Marcus Maye, Marcus Williams: day 3
Eddie Jackson: better value than Marcus Maye, Marcus Williams because of return ability
Justin Evans: could be a day 2 pick, moving up from the 4th
Xavier Woods: day 3 sleeper

WRs
Kenny Golladay: Steelers high on day 3 WR
Here is a little more information on this guy: 6'4" 218
Taken from NFL.com: He will be a height, weight, speed prospect headed into the combine, but will need to prove he can run to solidify his draft standing. Golladay could be targeted by teams looking for a field-stretcher with size who has the potential to become a matchup problem in the redzone. Golladay has the talent to become an eventual starter in the league.

Mike Williams: don't care about the speed, he's got the ups, he's got the ability to push off the line
Corey Davis: Same issue with Kevin White.  Doesn't think will be rady until October
John Ross: hinted will be injured a lot
Mack Hollins: day 3, 4th round, team from east rutherford looking at him, could play slot and return, special teams ace
Zay Jones: overrated, poor YAC

TEs
Evan Engram: Pounding the table
Adam Shaheen: "Baby Gronk"
Bucky Hodges: 4th round, limited time at position (TE 2 years) but could be moved all over the formation, flanker, slot, motion tailback, former QB, not a good blocker
O.J. Howard: Goes through the motions, plays when he needs to.  Labeled as "comes to play in the game"

OL
Ryan Ramcyzk: in any other draft would not look at this guy until day 2
Garrett Bolles: looked good because of Isaac Asiata
Taylor Moton: move into RG
Andreas Knappe: RT sleeper

That has to be Jets and been on my radar

Mack Hollins: day 3, 4th round, team from east rutherford looking at him, could play slot and return, special teams ace

Like him but injury concerns:

Eddie Jackson: better value than Marcus Maye, Marcus Williams because of return ability

What if he's there comp pick of round 3 #107?  I'd take him..It's a free pick

Gareon Conley

Nothing on Chidobe Awuzie ?  I like him for Jets but seems he'll go late 1st and won't make it to the 2nd round. I do like Witherspoon

Ahkello Witherspoon: solid number 1

Love the comment on Ryan Anderson.......interesting on OJ Howard. Pause for concern?

Its always interesting to see evaluations from scouts.  Its a different perspective then what we get from the media.  The media is trying to grab headlines and produce stories while scouts are really trying to find the best players.  This guy has a pretty impressive resume too.

Hopefully.  It sort of fits the mold for the Jets: Big bodied, can get early work on special teams, but very raw.

Around-the-League NFL Draft Rumor Tidbits

Updated April 26, 2017
By Charlie Campbell. Follow Charlie on Twitter @draftcampbell.

On the eve of the 2017 NFL Draft. Here are some rumors that Walter Football has heard from team sources.

  • One of the mysteries of the 2017 NFL Draft is how high Oklahoma running back Joe Mixon will go. Mixon's off-the-field issues are well known at this point, so it is unnecessary to restate why this first-round talent might slide in the draft. Some team sources feel that Mixon is on a par with LSU's Leonard Fournette as an elite back and one of the best players in the 2017 NFL Draft. A lot of teams have shown interest and hosted him on pre-draft visits. That group includes the Packers, Bengals, Broncos, Jaguars, Saints, Raiders, and Buccaneers.

In speaking with some sources at Green Bay, they say it is a strong possibility that the Packers will take Mixon. Because they can't count on Mixon making it to their second-round pick, Green Bay could take Mixon in the first round. Another possibility would be trading up in the second round for Mixon.

Green Bay is generally a very secretive team, so you can never rule out that the Packers have something else completely different up their sleeve. Some sources say even a quarterback like Texas Tech's Pat Mahomes is in play for Green Bay. He would be a good understudy to Aaron Rodgers. Similar to the Packers' franchise quarterback, Mahomes has a strong arm with mobility, athleticism, and moxie. For the Packers to take Mahomes, the value would have to be right, but Ted Thompson selected Rodgers in the first round with having Brett Favre for years to come, so you can never rule out Thompson looking down the road with Rodgers turning 34 later this year.
  • At the combine, WalterFootball.com had heard that the Tennessee Titans' plan with their pair of first-round picks was to address the defensive secondary first and then an offensive weapon with their second selection. After the Titans' shopping spree in free agency that included two veteran defensive backs and meeting with coaches during the organizational draft meetings in April, sources tell me that the team flipped the order of the plan. Heading into the draft, sources now say the Titans are likely to take an offensive weapon with the fifth-overall pick. The two players who are being targeted are Clemson wide receiver Mike Williams and Alabama tight end O.J. Howard. It sounds like they are leaning towards Williams with the fifth-overall pick.

At pick 18, Tennessee could target a No. 1 cornerback for their defense. Alabama's Marlon Humphrey and Colorado's Chidobe Awuzie are in play. Ohio State's Gareon Conley was also a candidate, but with the rape allegation against Conley, the Titans will likely to go with a different player. It sounds like Humphrey is the preferred corner over Awuzie, but the Titans also would consider trading down as they are without a second-round pick. This is a deep cornerback draft, so they could hope to move down and still land a good cornerback upgrade. With two third-round picks, the Titans could do a lot of work toward pushing their roster into playoff form in the 2017 draft.

  • Staying in the AFC South, after speaking with sources, I think it is extremely likely that that Texans will move up to get either Texas Tech quarterback Pat Mahomes II or Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson. I think the slight preference between the two is Mahomes, but both quarterbacks have made a good impression around the league. The key will be if one or both getting past the Saints at pick 11, Browns at 12, and Cardinals at 13. If they do, I think Houston will explore a move up to get one of them. The Texans' need at quarterback is so obvious around the league that teams picking at the top of the second round know they need to jump Houston to get one of those quarterbacks. I don't think the Texans will give up their second-round pick. The third-rounder is probably less likely as well, but they do have two fourth-round selections, and they could look to move up 3-5 spots for one of those picks. Last year Houston moved up for Will Fuller and Nick Martin. The previous year they moved up for Bernardrick McKinney and Jaelen Strong, so the track record of being aggressive is clear.

The Texans are the only team in the NFL that has all of their first-round picks since 2008 still on the team and occupying starting spots. General manager Rick Smith and the scouting staff have done a masterful job of hitting on first-round picks. Now they have the challenge of keeping that streak alive at the most important position on the field and will probably trade up for that quarterback.
  • The Los Angeles Chargers haven't been mentioned very much as a team that could target Alabama defensive lineman Jonathan Allen, but in speaking with sources, they say that Allen is definitely in play for Los Angeles. They hosted him on a visit, and he is a good fit in Gus Bradley's defense. They could easily take Allen if he gets to their pick. Most believe that Allen won't go in the top three, so if the Jaguars pass on him at 4, that could set up the Chargers to snatch him up with the seventh-overall pick.
  • Every year, some players have medical evaluations that end up hurting their draft stock. After the season, it was announced that Wisconsin left tackle Ryan Ramczyk would have hip surgery that would prevent him from working out before the combine. Aside from that issue, teams sources say that there were some other red flags in Ramczyk's medical report and they are concerned about him sustaining lower body injuries in the NFL. If Ramczyk slides to the second round, the medical concerns will definitely be one of the primary reasons.
  • In a weak tackle class, teams were hoping for clean reports on Ramczyk and Utah's Garett Bolles, but that wasn't the case. Bolles is healthy physically, but some teams are concerned with his mental health. They worry about how he will handle the stress of the NFL and if that will lead to Bolles having issues staying on the field or not playing well while on it. Other teams weren't concerned and felt that Bolles was over his past issues, but that sentiment isn't agreed upon across the league.

2017 NFL Draft: 10 believable things amid so much speculation

By Lance Zierlein

Published: April 26, 2017 at 01:41 p.m. Updated: April 26, 2017 at 02:16 p.m. 0 Likes  |  0 Comments

The NFL draft process is like a four-month fog that only begins to clear up with a few days to go before the event. Now that the fog is beginning to clear, I'm beginning to see a clearer picture of how this draft could take shape. Here are 10 believable things amid all the draft rumors.

1. Three quarterbacks go in the first round: While there is plenty of smoke about which quarterbacks could be going where, there seems to be a consensus building that Mitchell Trubisky, Deshaun Watson and Patrick Mahomes will end up in the first round when it is all said and done. Talk of DeShone Kizer, Davis Webb and Joshua Dobbs flirting with the first round might just be that ... talk.

2. McCaffrey comes off the board quickly: I know I've had Christian McCaffrey all over the place in mock drafts, but there is just too much buzz about McCaffrey ending up inside the first 14 picks for it not to happen. Carolina and Philadelphia are the two spots to keep a close eye on, from what I'm hearing.

3. Peppers takes a tumble: I don't expect Michigan's Jabrill Peppers to free-fall in this draft, but there were several teams who simply weren't carrying first-round grades on him even before information on his diluted sample from the NFL Scouting Combine came out. I spoke with a few teams who all believe that the Steelers at No. 30 might be his best chance to land in the first round.

4. Beware of leaks from San Francisco: If there is one thing that everyone knew about Mike Shanahan, it was that you would rarely find leaks emanating from the building. Therefore, I find it difficult to believe the sudden fountain of leaks that are coming from a team being coached by Mike's son, Kyle, regarding who the 49ers covet. The leaks appear to be strategic in nature to generate trade talks.

5. Safeties will dominate: While there's been plenty of buzz about this sudden push up the board by quarterbacks like Webb and Dobbs, it will be the safeties that come flying off the board within the first 50 picks. Players like Obi Melifonwu, Marcus Williams, Marcus Maye, Josh Jones and Justin Evans will get pushed up the board.

6. Haason Reddick before Reuben Foster: The heat surrounding Reddick is real. It's unlikely he even makes it to pick No. 15. On the other hand, Foster carries just enough concerns from teams from either a medical or character standpoint that it has vaulted Reddick past him.

7. There will be no value hunters for Conley: La'el Collins was a top prospect in 2015, but he went undrafted that year due to legal concerns. He was scheduled to be interviewed by police after the draft in connection with the murder of a woman he had a previous relationship with, Brittany Mills. Collins was not a suspect in the case and was never charged. The rich got richer, as Dallas added the talented lineman to its already talented unit as an undrafted free agent. You might hear a pundit say that a team will remember that and take a chance on Gareon Conley, who is being investigated by police after he was accused of rape by a woman earlier this month. They would be wrong. Several teams told me that, short of a complete clearance from police before the end of the draft, Conley will not hear his name called.

8. Texas A&M's Daeshon Hall will surprise: While Myles Garrett has been all over the draft coverage since day one, there hasn't been much talk about his teammate being a hot name. I'm hearing that, despite a belief in the media that he would go in Round 3 or 4, Hall is actually being targeted within the first two rounds and might end up inside the top 40.

9. Cleveland makes its move: Late reports about the Browns moving up for Mitchell Trubisky raise suspicion because of their public nature. Why give away strategy so openly? However, it's probably legit. Trubisky doesn't have a wealth of suitors and this is likely to be a buyer's market. Add it up, and the Browns should be able to land their man inside the top eight picks via trade.

10. David Njoku before Derek Barnett: This one would surprise people, but many teams see Barnett as a solid player rather than a special one, while Njoku is viewed as having a massive upside. It wouldn't surprise me if a team made a move up the board to snare Njoku before Barnett hears his name called.

Shaw sees Jets among fits for RB Christian McCaffrey

PHILADELPHIA -- Christian McCaffrey's versatile skills as a running back make him a strong bet for an early first-round selection Thursday when the 2017 NFL Draft commences.

But which NFL offenses would fit him best?

Not necessarily the ones picking at the top of the draft. Stanford coach David Shaw believes the offenses of the New York Jets, Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs would make excellent use of McCaffrey's vast skill set.

"I look at Philadelphia, Kansas City, the Jets. Johnny Morton, the (Jets') offensive coordinator, he and I spent time together with the Oakland Raiders," Shaw said. "I look at teams like that, who will absolutely run the ball, but will look to get their backs the ball out of the backfield. Christian, you'd love for him to go some place that will use all the things he does well, which is run it inside and outside, catch it out of the backfield, but also line up as a receiver and catch it. Doing any one of those things only, it’s like not letting a butterfly fly."

Shaw also mentioned the New Orleans Saints as team that would turn the McCaffrey butterfly loose, but doesn't expect the Saints to pick him after acquiring Adrian Peterson. The Jets pick No. 6 overall while the Eagles hold the No. 14 selection. NFL.com analysts Bucky Brooks and Maurice Jones-Drew both project the Eagles to take McCaffrey. The Chiefs, with the No. 27 pick, would likely need to make a big trade to move up for McCaffrey.

NFL Network analyst Charles Davis had high praise McCaffrey Wednesday.

"The best route-runner in this draft -- receiver, tight end or running back -- is Christian McCaffrey in my opinion," Davis said.

If he is, we can only hope he lands with a team that can showcase it.

I'd have entirely neutral feeling about this, but on the positive side, Howard seems versatile enough to play in our new coaching staff's system twelve months from now.

Yeah. I guess. I'd personally like Maccagnan to "reach" on one of the elite athletes at the edge position instead of using ESPN's board and taking Adams...a friggin SS. Guys like Watt, Willis wont be there in round 2.

For sure. And the chances of the Jets taking Howard are zero anyways. If they have to take the stupid safety I'd rather them take Hooker.

It just seems absolutely fated that it'll be Lattimore or Hooker. Put the ol mortgage on it

Unfortunately for some of these CBs (King/Witherspoon/Allen) they are going to get drafted too high based on their size.  I love King and Witherspoon's potential, but they both need to be brought in as backups first.  Taking King in the 1st is going to place him into an immediate starters role.  I loved his value when everyone had him as a 3rd rounder. I like him as a 2nd rounder. I hate him as a first rounder.  Most of the CBs in this draft imo are red chip or worse. Only Jones was a blue chipper imo. Lattimore could easily be one too if he can stay healthy.  Everyone else imo is a "#2" for lack of a better term or a nickle.  King should compete for snaps day 1, but if he's forced into a starting role it could be detrimental for him. Witherspoon is another long bodied guy who is very raw. Allen I don't actually like at CB. One guy that never gets mentioned that I'd take a flier on is Jeremy Clark out of Michigan. He's another big bodied CB, but if he can't make it there, I think he's actually a good fit at FS.

Here is Zeurline's take on King.  Seems like a stretch to put him as the 2nd or 3rd best CB on the board. IMO this scout's take matches what I saw on his play-by-play reel.

Overview

King played for former NFL linebacker Hardy Nickerson at Bishop O'Dowd High School in Oakland, so it's not a surprise that he has the skills to play defense at the highest level. He was an honorable mention All-Pac-12 pick at cornerback the past two seasons, using his length to make plays on the ball each season (39 tackles, three interceptions, five pass break-ups in 2015; 44 stops, 3.5 for loss, two interceptions team-high 13 PBUs in 2016). His one-handed interception in the end zone against Arizona State was one of the best plays in college football last fall. King began his career for the Huskies at safety, starting twice as a true freshman (17 tackles) and then 12 of 13 games in 2014 (65 tackles, one INT, three PBU). His senior year was the first time he did not miss games during the season, as he missed five games due to injury and one to illness during his first three years.

Analysis

Strengths

Rare height for the position. Solid job of restricting catch window on routes outside the numbers. Shoves receivers toward boundary and drifts into their running lane to decrease catch opportunity. Length creates challenge for receivers used to winning at the high point. Instinctive with good feel for finding football. Allowed just one touchdown over last 101 targets. Six career interceptions with hands to make the circus pick. Patient from press coverage. Quick to turn and locate once his back is to the quarterback. Saw increase in pass breakups in senior season. Willing to get physical with blocking receivers when it comes time to disengage and make a tackle. Has played all four spots in secondary and slot corner as well.

Weaknesses

Timed speed and play speed are both concerns. Sluggish feet in press allow quick-releasers to shoot past him. Unable to find necessary acceleration for functional makeup speed. Hands are flimsy in his jams. Could use more upper body strength. High center of gravity makes sudden change of direction a challenge. NFL ball production could be a concern. Takes path to his man over paths to the ball. Lacks desired twitch for NFL transitioning to the throws. Takes too long from bail technique and backpedal to plant and burst on the ball. Ankle biter willing to engage in too many arm tackles and blind shoulder rolls.

Draft Projection

Round 1-2

Sources Tell Us

"I'm not 100 percent sure what you do with him because he's not a physical tackler, but he's almost too tall to be trusted against shifty receivers. Maybe a team like Seattle, which love those long, press corners. Or you might see a team try and make him a free safety." -- West Coast regional scout for AFC team

NFL Comparison

Damian Swann

Bottom Line

Unusually tall cornerback with experience playing in the slot and as a starting safety. Showed improved instincts and ball production in 2016, but there are still concerns about whether he has the athleticism and recovery speed to utilize his length to play the football. Might be best suited to more zone coverage or off-man based on his speed limitations, but in either scheme he'll need to improve his aggressiveness as a tackler.

Andrew Luck, and we call it a day?:D Honestly, don't know the roster well enough. They need players, that's why having to give multiple picks would hurt them. Probably swapping first's this year and a first or second next year would be better for them.
