Jack Mills may have been stretching the truth.

Mills, Baker Mayfield's agent, said the New England Patriots were interested in a trade with the New York Giants for the No. 2 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Of course, this was only if Mayfield was not picked at No. 1 by the Cleveland Browns.

From podcast with Jack Mills, agent for @bakermayfield: "We knew that the Jets at 3 was the bottom line. We had another team that said 'you may get a big surprise on draft day at number two if he is available.' And that team was... the Patriots": http://www.andrew-brandt.com.php56-26.ord1-1.websitetestlink.com

However, it seems that may not have been a consideration for the Patriots.

"That grain of salt is exactly what it is, a grain of salt. It never happened," Giants vice president of player evaluation Chris Mara told SiriusXM's Mad Dog Sport Radio on Friday.

Mara said they did get phone calls from teams to make a trade, but "the Patriots weren't one of them."

The Patriots did select LSU's quarterback Danny Etling in the seventh round. He was one of their eight draft selections.
